        I couldn’t make it all the way through Gillette’s misandrist TV ad — too obnoxious. But I now know never to buy Gillette products (btw they are owned by Proctor and Gamble) of any kind (including shaving cream). Not that I did anyways. In my first year economics class — in the oligopoly section — I stressed that, at one time, Gillette and Schick owned the market, and we saw higher blade prices, and ever increasing number of blades for a shave, and that consumer were losing out. So decades ago I decided to only use the cheap plastic razors, one per week — just as a protest against the two kingpin razor-blade companies.

        I hope men and women everywhere decide to stop buying from Gillette. As I posted before, the conservative movement in North America lacks strong grassroots organizations, strong enough to organized well-run boycotts. But I hope Gillette, because of this politically-correct ad, turns out like ESPN and Target Inc., and begins a southward spiral. And I hope the social media turns on them.

    Something similar to the opening story about Michael happened to me in my youth.

    1. Another long-standing attack against men — where the Gillette ad is just one example — is the ongoing depiction of men, in TV ads, as incoherent, mentally-retarded boobs. (There are two overriding themes in TV ads, the other being “inclusivity” of non-whites in ads, but I will stick with the first thing this time). White, heterosexual men DO appear in TV ads (not so on the CBC News Network anymore), but in TV ads the vast majority of them depict men as mentally defective. With my wife visiting in-laws for two weeks after Christmas, I got to watch lots of TV. The over-arching theme of TV ads, with white men as being dumb, is unremitting — the big corporate ad agencies see it as a crusade.

      So the Gillette commercial is a slight change: instead of men as dumb boobs, it says men are horny, nasty, evil dumb boobs.

      Btw: white, homosexual Michael Sarapio was talking about the Gillette ad, with host Heather Hiscox, on CBC News morning, today. Both agreed as to the wonderful-ness of the ad, with Mr. Sarapio using the term “toxic masculinity” often. Viewers get the picture, unfortunately.

      2. I think that the people @ Gillette / Proctor and Gamble ought to be ashamed of themselves. Billions of people have spent billions of dollars buying their products over the decades and in this silly decade the people that are now working there are hiring Ad Agencies to spew this advertising as being ‘au courant’ and the right thing to do. They’ve crossed the line and forgot who is paying their salaries. Shame, shame on them.

        In the 1970s, I once wrote to Gillette complaining because they took a product I used off the market. I didn’t expect a reply. Instead, one day I received a parcel and in it was six bottles of “Sun In” Hair Lightener and other new Gillette products, like disposable razors etc. Imagine that! There was a polite letter apologizing for the discontinuation of the product. Boy have they changed their tune now!

        I don’t think I use anything they put out now but I will make a point of boycotting these products if I am. I like men too much.

        Just a day or so ago a guy at the grocery store with one item was so sweet and didn’t rush in front of me but politely was willing to let me ahead of him. I played tango, and let him ahead. This was after a woman bullied me to get ahead of me, whereupon I changed lanes because I didn’t want to be near HER.

        Lord, help me, I prefer men than my own kind. As far as I’m concerned it can rain MEN! Gillette can go into bankruptcy.

        1. One thing most people aren’t aware of is Gillette’s R & D in the area of materials science.

          Many years ago, I was working on an alternate energy project and, to get information on the subject, one of the companies I contacted was Gillette. I don’t remember finding out a lot about what it was working on, but I was astonished to learn that one of its divisions at the time was working in the same field as me.

          That was more than 30 years ago. Perhaps by now it may have discontinued that work, dumped that entire division, or perhaps farmed it out to academe.

        So they have determined the city has “lost so many students” and that they have to “increase quality” of education but they never mention the cause of the loss of students or where they went (moved away? private schools?). Also many of these schools include students who are there to learn English (e.g. immigrants). The one example used is a school of 309 “black and brown” students with over 100 immigrant students. They mention the need to protect the schools of the black and brown students but never directly address the issue that one third of the students are immigrants and the total cost of running the school can no longer be supported. What they should be saying (not that I agree with it) is that they should be getting rid of immigrant students so that they can focus on the black and brown students. But they could never say that.

    Sorry, but as usual, people much smarter than you have already figured this out. The same technology that ensures that what you download is the same thing the server sent out, and wasn’t corrupted or altered along the way, is used to authenticate original digital video as admissible evidence.
