My children were trained (by me) as early as elementary school! to just nod their head and praise the teachers (leftist) global warming proselytizing (among other things). And they each have excellent degree from top colleges … and remain as conservative as the day is long. They regurgitated EXACTLY what their biased instructors wanted to hear from good little brainwashed sheep. Meanwhile … my kids found their own way by reading, listening, and researching, on their own. They are fully independent thinkers.
What I find amusing is that Apple, Google, Fackebook … all TRULY BELIEVE … that they can alter people’s core belief system by censoring, and propagandizing their social media platforms. They honestly BELIEVE they can “cause” a Blue Wave midterm election by behaving like the Communist Chinese government … using the same excuse that they are “sanitizing” the internet from “harmful” content … for the “good” of the people. It’s NOT going to work.

Since we can all agree that colleges are teaching crap and there is zero diversity of thought… would it not be more efficient for student to declare that they are fully indoctrinated, pay the fees for the fake parchment and go directly to the nearest Starbucks and start your career. Why rot for three or four expensive years listening to a stupid Marxist with tenure tell you what to think.
Actually one my daughters and her teacher husband are encouraging their children to avoid universities as such and rather find a suitable well paying trade by attending a trade school.

Most of the engineering students and recent grads that I’ve dealt with during the last few years know all about fancy-schmancy computer programs which give them the answers to xxxx many decimal places, but have little practical sense what those results mean. If I ask them, they immediately whip out their electronic ding-dongs to find out.
Then again, these are the people who Zuckertwerp says are sooooooooooo much smarter than greybeards and silverbacks like me. (“Tighten that nut with a box wrench? Wait a minute–I’ll download the app for it.”)

What bothers me most about that is that they don’t even recognize the box wrench as technology. I’ve had conversations that go something like this:
Me: Your app isn’t “technology,” your car is. Can you tell me how your car works?
Them: I’m not interested in cars, I’m interested in technology.
I continue to tell everyone I meet (the truth) that my only brother (who died at age 28) was SMARTER than me. He never went to college … but I did. He was an auto mechanic who specialized in diagnosing complex electrical problems. He studied automobiles, knew the mechanics and electronics forward and backward. Was constantly updating his knowledge as cars were just beginning to use ECM brains that ran the entire electrical systems. In his spare time he built his own high end electronic audio equipment. Studied electrical schematics and learned how subtle circuitry alterations produced cleaner, more natural sound. He (and I) personally remodeled and sold two homes by his age of 28. He and I rebuilt two cars – for me! … which at the time was a lifesaver.
Going to college … does not make you “smart”. At all. It can … but that all depends on WHAT you study, how you study, and how CURIOUS you are about everything in the world – both natural and manmade. My brother was curious as hell … and that led to learning and knowledge. He did not NEED a college to “teach” him … he learned it on his own. And this happened BEFORE the internet existed. Before the sum total of mankind’s knowledge was a mouseclick away. Lord knows what my brother would have learned by now … had he not passed away so young … all without taking a single college class.

I’m a P.Eng. We often had BS sessions at our hangout on campus trying to figure out what our profs were actually trying to teach us. Usually fueled by a lot of beer. The closest we got was that we were being trained to think like someone who can work in this professions. That mostly worked with me, I still think outside-the-box too much for my current job, and have to limit options to what is accepted process.
There is no profession of polymath, but a curious mind and keen intellect can get one there. It’s an underestimated and much appreciated (in the real world) skill. Sounds to me like that’s what you’re brother was working towards.
Thanks. BTW … Engineering today seems to be like “common core math” … more convoluted methods to arrive at simple answers. It’s almost as though the building codes are being tweaked to make it so that ONLY those who can follow the “new” convoluted calculation methodology can arrive at the correct answer. It now appears as though the “process” is more important than the answer.
The way to deal with an inflectional disease is to contain & irradiate… Those that attend these sick shit holes don’t need Taxpayer help..

MY President was excoriated for asking Comey to make a “Pledge” of loyalty. So … WHY ? … was THAT wrong … but it is OK to (essentially) demand a loyalty PLEDGE in favor of “diversity” from each prospective employee at a college?
Doesn’t this PLEDGE … guarantee … a lack of diversity, by FORCING a pledge? Won’t this written pledge serve to weed out anyone with a “diverse” attitude toward “diversity” … for instance … a professorial candidate who believes ALL college students should be admitted on “merit” (grades, test scores, etc.) … even IF that means colleges end up with a 40% Asian student body.

Conservative college students should seriously consider trolling their teachers with well-crafted answers that would fool even the best Poe’s Law detectors. I mean, it’s not that hard to get true believers to accept your stuff as valid – other people have done it before in the past.

Reminds me of my Uni days when, in essays written for English courses, we used to always conclude that an English writer was adopting an “existentialist” stance (with quotes if the writer penned the work in question prior to Kierkegaard’s musings becoming extant throughout Europe [circa 1870-80 or thereabouts]) or was adopting an existentialist stance (without quotes if the work in question was produced after the mid-1870s or so).
Worked like a charm, and confirmed my belief that most of the English professors at the U. of A. were flaming morons.
