The Sound Of Settled Science

Rogue Health;

The country with the world’s highest meat consumption appears to be Hong Kong, according to the National Geographic. (Although Hong Kong isn’t a self-governing nation, but an administrative district.)

[…]

Hong Kong is also number three in the world in per capita beef consumption, so their meat isn’t just chicken or seafood.

Together with China and Macao, Hong Kong is fourth in the world in per capita pork consumption.

If our health authorities are right, then people in Hong Kong should be dropping like flies from heart disease and cancer.

But they’re not.

  1. Good start.
Now try correlating the incidence of cardiovascular disease versus per capita consumption of either refined carbohydrates or just plain sugar.
Hint – shift the curves by about 20 years to allow for the consumption to take effect.
    There’s your correlation!!!

  2. Good thing I have NEVER modified my meat intake in all the 62.67 years of my life. Although i did make it through my impoverished college years on a diet of Top Ramen and vegetables. The only other modification is that I now carefully trim the excess fat from my Tri tip, chicken breasts, country style pork ribs, etc. cutting back on eating pure fat appears to be a good idea as I have gotten older and a bit more sedentary. Other than that … it is meat protein EVERY night … and NO FAKE religious rituals like … Ramadan … where Muzzies pretend to fast but stuff themselves silly during “time outs”. And I don’t trim or cut back on well-marbled delicious rib eye steaks or the tri tip.

Sorry UN 3rd worlders … I will NEVER eat bugs as you recommend.

    1. “stuff themselves silly during “time outs”

oohhhh jeeze. how true. one of the last construction jobs I wuz on featured a muslim.

right in the middle of ramadan.

foul mouthed hardened construction hat types.

and there was the faster right in the middle.

nom nom nom. BURRRRP. nom nom nom. go the hardhats . . . . .

separation of church and state? on the job !!!!

  3. This comes as no surprise. Carbs = SUGAR and there you have the enemy…sugar. Every Food on the planet that goes through some form of processing is full of SUGAR. Take milk for example…why is there 10 grams of sugar in a serving. WHY.?? Sure as shit the Cow that produced said milk isn’t adding it…? EVERY processed bit of food we eat is laced with Sugar….lots of it.

Eat Carbs.? Great way to encourage Cancer.

All the rest of the so called villains: Cholesteral, Salt, Trans Fats etc…. all BS – always were. If ya do need to sweeten something up: Raw non processed sugar is ok, Honey is waaay better.

Stick to non wheat grains – greens and lots of meat – Eggs – Fats – BACON..!! ….not only feel better but lose weight as well. Works for me and the bride…1% milk or if ya can…FRESH milk like we used to get in the Glass Bottles with Cream on top (Yes it was pasteurized…but that was the extent of it IIRC)

    1. Of course too many carbs is bad for you but you do realize that the brain runs on glucose.

      1. “but you do realize that the brain runs on glucose.” Not after Canada becomes the land of Stoners…..The US border is ramping up for Body cavity searchers (discourages drug smugglers & enablers)… “Spread you Cheeks” may make the TOP 10 on the whiners list
Enjoy the decline you are the Bell ringers of a failed social experiment. Monkey see… Monkey do

        1. Then the brain will run on Doritos. Or not at all.

Did PMJT ever remember to exhale?

        1. I can’t walk a block without smelling pot, night and day. To each his own but if its always foggy, its hard to see.

        2. Exactly. But tube Steakman is insane. ‘They’ don’t put fucking sugar in milk for fuck sakes.

          1. I stand corrected.
Naturally occurring Lactose – 12 grams per serving…That my (_i_)hole friend does not make me insane nor require ignorant commentary.

I stand by the rest of it..

            Get over yourself…goof.

        1. Yes, but I have heard lots of protein hurts the kidneys.

Total calorie control and exercise controls weight and maintains health.

Diabetes and high blood pressure are very much affected by obesity.

          1. Some of you retards need to read some 21st century literature on nutrition. Fucking Full Retard Recruit Night. Probably a bunch of skinny-armed fat-assed slap monkeys.

  4. Amazing how north Americans are being instructed to live on rabbit food, leaving all the more pork for the Chinese to stuff their faces with—and live longer, healthier lives than their western vassals.

Friendly reminder, on a related note, that the Chinese are the ones turning the Pacific Ocean into a pool of pigshit and discarded bubble tea containers, not north Americans. And we are the ones begrudged a bit of meat for our supper, not China’s morbidly obese little emperors.

    1. Should be HEADLINE National News. No wonder all those leftist-run States SHUT DOWN … My President’s Federal Audit of their 2016 election data. They’ve got as much to HIDE from the public as HER server. i.e. FRAUD, DECEPTION, and PROOF of our elections being hijacked by leftists. Until we can PROVE … “one man, one vote” … our Democracy is DEAD.

    2. Boy, that’s some turn-out! I’m impressed; we seldom get more than 45-55% hereabouts.

  5. As a result of political pressure from leftist political activists, most fast food restaurants fry their french fries and other fried offerings in corn oil instead of lard or tallow like they used to. This has led to an epidemic of obesity, Type II diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.

    1. Yep 40 to 45 years ago when I was in the meatpacking business, we sold a lot of 50 pound boxes of beef fat to restaurants for deep frying. And you rarely saw a humongous ass in those days.

  6. Our health authorities have become too politicized with monetary politicized research and use their position in society to attempt to mold it. Note how often results of certain research are pushed for decades until someone debunks it and then they go off in another tangent.

    1. “and then they go off in another tangent”
True and isn’t it amazing the things that people believe about food. There is no sugar added to milk; lactose is a sugar.
Sorry folks there are no magic foods or food to avoid. Eat it all in moderation but take it easy on the soft drinks; they are loaded with unneeded calories that can add on the pounds.

  7. So, if data compiled by different sources can be combined, Hong Kong leads the world in at least three things:
    1. Consumption of meat, as reported here
    2. Average IQ, as posted above
    3. Life expectancy of 84.462, as reported by this link:
    http://worldpopulationreview.com/countries/life-expectancy-by-country/
Hmm, makes you wonder. Does No. 1 have anything to do with No. 2 or No. 3? In any case, No. 1 and No. 3 together would appear to falsify the propaganda of the anti-meat lobby. If longevity does not actually correlate with meat consumption (as No 2 in longevity Japan consumes relatively less meat) at least meat consumption is not detrimental.

    1. It’s complicated. Hong Kong has a very low smoking rate but so does India. The strongest correlation is probably wealth. Rich countries can afford to eat more meat and the quality of carbohydrate-based foods in poor countries is probably low in nutrients.

Most people aren’t even aware that many vegetables are rich in protein (peas, spinach, kale, broccoli). Raw spinach is 30% protein, for example.

Plus the guy (who looks great for 63) drives a girly sports car so what does he know anyway?

  8. Knew someone who spent a semester in Hong Kong on a student exchange. According to him, pork was a vegetable in their cuisine. Have heard the same about Slovakia: the vegetarian menu will feature “eggs and tofu and peas and pork”, and the vegetarian lasagne comes with bacon sprinkles.

  9. Aside from the high variation between countries there are probably some basic truisms that cannot be broken. For example, you probably cannot have a high smoking rate AND high longevity. Also, as smoking rates decrease (as they have been in many countries) longevity will increase in almost ALL countries. You cannot have higher rates of obesity AND higher longevity.

Does eating meat cause obesity? No.

Should we be increasing our meat consumption to become healthier? No, probably not. If we want to use Hong Kong as an example, we should stop smoking and eat less food overall. We have become a country of over-eaters who waste their days discussing WHAT to eat and not how much. There aren’t many calories in a teaspoon of sugar. Putting 16 teaspoons of sugar into a can of pop and then drinking 2-3 cans of pop per day is the problem.

Volume is more a problem than content.
