#BringBackCheapBooze

Now is the time at SDA when we juxtapose!

Fortune Magazine, July 5thCanadian network CTV reported that shoppers and travelers are boycotting both U.S. goods and getaways, posting to Twitter with hashtags like #BuyCanadian, #BoycottUSProducts, and #BoycottUSA, following remarks made by Trump about Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Associated Press, July 15thBorder crossing data indicates the number of Canadian motorists returning from the U.S. in June grew 12.7 percent from last year, a healthy increase, according to a license plate-scanning system used by the Canadian government.

  1. I’m about ready to tune into the CTV just now to see how the Croatian soccer team humiliated the French 9 – 0 at the World Cup.

(not meant to be critical of the very good Croatian effort at the world cup, my sole intention is to ridicule the CTV).

  2. This is a bit like polling voters prior to the 2016 presidential election. As I recall, almost no one was voting for Trump.

  3. CTV News is utterly unwatchable. They act as the mouthpiece for the Justin Trudeau federal Liberal party and associated provincial parties. What bothers me is the long run (and tedious) promo commercial, featuring Lisa Laflamme, claiming that she, and CTV News, somehow “support” Canada’s military. Given that Justin Trudeau’s government is in the process of weakening our military — and given that CTV News is a mouthpiece for Justin Trudeau — that promo as is utterly false.

    1. Unbelievably, they have gone even farther left than the State Broadcaster. Constant Trudeau Vision is in full campaign mode with their Deranged Trump Syndrome.

  4. there is value in America even with a dollar worth 35 cents less. the average government fool thinks that Canadians are doing the opposite of what is really happening. I wonder just how many government employees head south every year?

    1. A lot of the fuss came from Ottawa, a long drive from the Can-US border.

  5. #CanadiansWeak&Dishonest
These canuckle-headed, boycott “patriots” are probably the same ones who believe anyone who comes to our border and cross it “irregularly” should be welcomed with opened arms. In other words, #AStupidMinority.

  6. Yes, but buy Canadian what, exactly?

Besides, here’s a conundrum: if you’re all for global free trade, why you would you be nationalistic about your consumption?

  7. To be fair to CTV news – a damned hard thing to do – they did carry this story at 6 pm yesterday….along with the news that there has been no decreases in Canadian purchases of US goods.

  8. There are some suckers who have changed their life by boycotting the US because Trudeau told them to. Imagine being this retarded.

  9. Heh…

Bought 18 pack of Weinhard dark for $8 US in Point Roberts in May.
Went for some beer to the Moose in Kalispell a week ago.
Brought back some wine and few left over beers.
Will go to the States when ever it pleases us.
The media cartel has no effect on anything people do except that many accept the propaganda.
They must have studied Goebbels in the class on journalism and how they will change the world,
Propaganda is in full force by the Canadian media cartel.
If you watch the global news at 6, they have full time propagandists producing and projecting fake news, no news, omitted news and lies.
It is interesting that the “journalists” never look in the mirror and check what it looks like to talk propaganda.

  10. see how the spin works?
there are in fact, those who eschew cross border shopping.
THAT is where the story ENDS.
but it doesnt end there, thats just where the spin ends it.

  11. Their game has caught up to them. They operate in an ever diminished market. Social media is wiping them out. The era of cable tv is over – somebody should tell them.
Once reporters became ‘journalists’ news became invented. We got to hear their opinions, not just what they saw/heard. What they thought became the story.
So it’s all fakery and cheap 6 o’clock entertainment. Another kitten is rescued by the local fire dept……oh, and Trump said something schtoopid….again.
And that’s the way it is……

    1. Yes, Canadian Media is either dreadfully stupid or bought and paid for propagandists, their broadcasts are pathetic, it started before Trump, as the constant barrage of puppy/kitty stories has no business being called ‘news’, ever.
Their constant water carrying for Trudeau sealed the deal, these people are either paid off, or threatened under duress, or just plain vacant between the ears.
I just can’t watch the ‘news’ anymore the level of stupid is astounding. Also astounding, is the amount of Canadians who accept the propaganda without question.
This is a stupid country with too many distracted citizens who are being led down the rabbit hole, willingly.

  12. Cross-border booze shopping is alive and well in the States, too. North Carolina, for example, slaps a whole host of taxes on “spiritous liquor”, the net effect of which is to raise the retail price 30-50%. For example, a 1.75L bottle of Cutty Sark costs $25 in SC but $37 in NC – 48% more. A 1.75L bottle of Jim Beam costs $23 in SC but $30 in NC – 30% more.

    1. 750 bottle of Crown Royal will cost you something like $80+US in Seattle. Most of it, something like $55 US in wide variety of taxes and other confiscatory gymnastics by the governments.

      1. Maybe check your math Lev. Used to be that CR 40 pounders were 2/$30 at the Blaine crossing not so long ago. Better to grab your fave beverage at the duty free than a regular state liquor store.
If you want cheap no name Wodka or Rum, Fred Meyer stocks them for $13 a 26er. I would never buy anything in socialist Seattle, for that matter.

        1. Yeah, bought Crown Royal at the Canadian duty free before getting to the US, about $18 CAD’s for 1.14 litres.
Liquor is seriously expansive in WA. This was in one of those QFC stores.
