1. In 2008, 18 years after the collapse of Democratic socialism Soviet style we still had to bring our own toilet paper along on a tour to Ukraine and Russia. Only the high end hotels in Moscow and St. Petersburg had toilet paper in the washroom. The public facility near the Kremlin had marble floors and toilet paper, but a football layer sized female toll collector. She looked like she would brook no argument as to the fare rate.

   There were shortages as well of other items we take for granted.

   There was however no shortage of armed guards in the lobbies by the elevators that took you up to whatever floor your room was on.

   I did watch that segment and it was a little scary, as Cornel West appears to believe what he says. Reminds me of Trotsky.

   2. My disgust and hatred for communism prevented me from ever wanting to go to a communist country. In retrospect I now wish that I would have just to see paradise in all it’s glory.

      I recall a conversation I had with a guy who buried his feelings and went to Cuba in the early 80’s. They booked through a travel agent and when they got there their room had no running water. He scrounged up a pail and dipped it in the pool hiked up the stairs (the elevator worked – intermittently) to their room. His wife wouldn’t tolerate the place and they eventually moved to another hotel albeit with great inconvienence. Phone numbers to hotels changed with frequency at the time.
      It was an eyeopener to say the least. Not at all like the communism Walter Duranty or Pierre Elliot Trudeau described in such glory.
      We Canadians never knew the 1/2 of it. Now most college professors describe themselves as commie sympathizers. Fools

2. Cornell West is the classic example of the perils of Affirmative Action. A man who can talk for hours on end, and say absolutely nothing.

   3. Yes Professor West talks a lot. However what he did not say was anything to support the plain stated goals of democratic socialist. He did not want to abolish prisons, or borders. Further, the Professor did not explain,where his collective state was going to obtain his mountain of dignity he wishes to mete out.

      1. I think they are planning on using the South African model . As people who lived there explained to me every poor person was going to lie in a big house with a pool and be rich once there was a change in government. Of course now they just kill rural landowners and confiscate their property . And no they are not all rich . So it now appears the only place ( according to professor West ) whites is enslavement . I think I will fight .

The answer is always the same: democratic socialism was never given a chance because of outside authoritarian influences, or bad execution, or, or, or… Even if you let them have free reign, to do whatever their little hearts desire, they come up against the fundamental nature of humankind – free will – and there is always one more celebrated cause to fight for, one more river to cross and the answer is always the same – if you let us, the elite, run the show for you, all will be well. It results in the very thing that they claim to despise – totalitarianism. Cornell Wilde for all of his protestations of human rights is a dictator waiting in the wings and what he is too stupid to realize is that were his ilk given free reign, they would shoot him first after gaining power because they would soon tire of his baffle gap and incessant complaining.

6. Based on Cornel’s rantings, it’s pretty clear that Social Democracy is just another form of self-righteous virtue-signalling for the economically ignorant. He states that they are about spreading love, meanwhile, their activists make busy spreading hate and discord. He talks of respect and inclusiveness while they continue to carve up society into many little aggrieved sub-groups.

   I will guarantee that Cornel and his ilk would be singing a far different tune on open borders if illegal immigrants were taking up all the cushy socialist activist/philosopher jobs.

   IMO, Cornel conducts himself as a man who has never been seriously challenged to publicly defend his beliefs against reality. In that regard, he is just like every other N American Socialist.

7. Cornell West is fucked in the head.

8. Tucker’s being very kind. There is no such thing as democratic socialism, in Venezuela or anywhere else.

   Socialism makes sense to Cornel West’s brothers. They’re quite at home in prison, where they know they can count on three squares a day—and toilet paper. What they never managed to handle was the outside, where there’s no jailer to tell them to get up and go to work.

   People with an IQ above 80 and capable of taking care of themselves and living useful, productive lives outside a closed institution tend to have no use for socialism.

   Ultimately I don’t blame West’s “community” for thrusting leftists into office. I blame the people who turned them loose in 1865 rather than tell the “community” they had to go back to Liberia.

9. jeezus has been coming “tomorrow” for 2000 years. And people wonder why others buy into human manufactured bull$hit. Nice try, butt on cigar. Socialism is a close cousin to religion.

10. Jesse Waters spoke to a real nutbar on Saturday. He cited Cuba, with its free healthcare, and when Jesse asked for an actual example of success not failure, this fruitcake went on about capitalists not even knowing when they’re “wrong.”

    After all, socialists only want to take over the means of production. What could go wrong?

    No theory of costs? No problem that can’t be taken care of with a gulag or two.

11. so basically, this story tells us that toilet paper is the ‘canary in the mine’ as far as socialism is concerned.

    socialism flies in the face of human nature. they are trying something akin to rewriting the laws of gravity, or mebbe doing away with them altogether until some guru fixes it all in the mean time.
    this mindset that is roughly 150 yrs old, and has FAILED every time.

12. Socialism is pointed directly to the destruction of ordinary people.
    It is a diktat by Übermensch, not unlike those Übermensch of the 30’s of the past century.
    They claim superiority in all things and consider a guy that gets up every damn morning goes to work to take care of his family, to be ignorant to their superiority.
    They claim that he does not understand what’s good for him, he instead needs to just shut the hell up and do as they say.

    The idiot professor would like to dribble around in circles and tell everyone that what’s happening in Venezuela is Trump’s fault.
    That’s not the worst of it, the worst of it is that there are so many that believe and don’t know any better.
    Not necessarily their fault, the media cartel, the Hollywood pretention of reality, the people like the professor are doing their absolute best to make sure that they don’t know.

    You know, a guy called Pericles in his funeral speech, some two centuries ago, said something to the effect (because every translator makes his own translation), anyway, “we think of those that do not take part in public life, good for nothing”.
    It has never been more needed than it is today.
