It is standard practice to prevent comments on stories which are related to immigration, senior politicians, transxxism (and a few other key topics) where there is a claim to a fact which is actually easily debunkable. It cannot be allowed that some schmuck in his pyjamas can come along with a few words and a link that completely destroys a crafted narrative.
Yes, agree, though you forgot to mention any issues with First Nations crime, such as the recent Colton Boushie case. The big city based media has their narrative about noble warriors and victims of white oppression, and have no desire to hear the opinion of rural Canadians who live among the FN’s and are often the victims of FN depredations.
My personal take:
Colton Bouschi, RIP…………LOL!
“LEAKED: A look inside the ClimateWorks Foundation $66 million campaign to foist climate laws on local governments”
Don’t flame me for mentioning that I pay for the left-wing Globe and Mail (but I do). I read the business and investment sections, where for the most part these writers still practice old-style honest journalism (I have been interviewed by them a number of time, for background information). At any rate the rest of the corrupt paper, is, well, corrupt, and this is true for its “comments” section. One thing that the Globe does, as a left-wing newspaper, is to inundate its long-suffering readers with continuous identity-politics opinion, and left-wing news and advocacy in general. On the weekend there was a forgettable piece by some wide-eyed Indigenous writer, railing against the police and advocating for the many armed street gangs terrorizing the Aboriginal population (the Globe likes opinion slamming the police and defending violent organized crime). I was most interested in readers comments, given the Globe’s long-standing support for violent criminals. But lo and behold, the comments were closed.
While I’m at it, this type of censorship is a continuation from the old-styled comments with the paper editions of yesteryear: the letters-to-the-editor. I subscribed to the National Post, and found it easy to get a letter published in it (I had a good relationship with the letters-editor, whose name escapes me). But I would write similar letters off-and-on to the Globe, but except for one or two, could never get them published. I used to read the paper’s letters-to-the-editor, but the left-wing letters outnumbered the conservative letters by 20 to one. But what comments are published in the Globe, conservative comments outnumber the lefties about two to one. So the video poster is right: the left-wing media establishment censors conservatives, all of the time.
It may have been easy for you to get a letter published by the National Post, however I would suggest that whether or not to publish a letter would depend on the content of your letter. For example this past week was the first time any MSM outlet wrote a story regarding Justard’s molestation of a young reporter. The story was published in the NP and was primarily a defense of Justrds molestations that put forward the absurd premise that holding Justard to the same standard as everyone else would simply be “playing politics”, laughable yes, but quite predictably with fake news the comments section was closed.
There are exceptions to this rule.
Takimag, the pro-Trump conservative opinion site that hosts (among others) Kathy Shaidle, has had to do away with comments. It seems some Deep-State-aligned trolls had taken to posing as neo-Nazis and using Takimag’s comment section to discredit the site. The editorial staff decided they had better things to do than spend their time deleting the flood of fake comments by Deep State trolls.
They’ve moved to a more traditional “letters to the editor” system where letters are not printed without full (real) names and locations being supplied.
I’ve noticed the same thing on Breitbart, where deep state trolls flood the site whenever their ox is gored, and about a third of them pretend to be neo-nazis who are ready to take up arms. Of course their profiles have always been created within the last ten minutes so they’re easy to spot, but I’m surprised Breitbart has not gone to a similar ‘letters to the editor’ strategy…. er, other than the fact the left would go out of their way to ruin your life, business and career if your comments made too much sense.
” a third of them pretend to be neo-nazis”
On Breitbart, they’re not pretending. Again, not a remotely credible source of information either.
Because your opinions are The Truth.
Are you of the opinion we should worship you?
Well it’s not like Takimag was a remotely credible site of information anyways.
One small exception on CBC (web-based news) is Adrienne Arsenault whose reports usually have the comments enabled. She is a bright light in a box of dim bulbs. In particular Arsenault and a film crew reported on the Ebola crisis in Africa (Liberia) in 2014 (“The Ebola Effect”).
Other than poor content on CBC I am also annoyed at the fact that by the time an article makes it to one of the front pages of the web-site “comments are closed”. Not that I would ever comment on a CBC article but they don’t even give you a chance. Plus we have to pay for that garbage.
I am somewhat ashamed to say that I frequent the online pages of The Daily Mail, where I have been permanently banned from making comments … because I questioned the newsworthiness of a lesbian kiss by Abby Wambach on her female wife after the US Women won the Women’s World Cup in Canada a couple years ago. I simply asked WHY a dyke-kiss was newsworthy … but hetero kisses were not? The DM routinely shuts down comments on every transgender story, Gay Pride Story … and esp. on every European refugee/immigrant story. Any story that is CERTAIN to draw overwhelming commentary that runs contrary to the writers proposed narrative … get the comments shut down. Yes, this is NOT news … it is propaganda.
I was banned for noting the huge number of blacks involved with crime in the UK. Truth is not a defence.
David, just try pointing out in here that some left wing nut job, that is being disparaged in here, is a Jew. A few heads will explode:-)))
heck, I have been banned from WAPO for using the same words in a post that they used in an article. There ain’t no cure for stupid.
Great to know I’m not alone … as a ‘hater’ … who used ‘hateful’ language and thoughts as deemed by the ‘hate police’ … who foment far more hate than I could ever conjure up.
Odd, I consider the Daily Mail to have a middle of the road slightly to the right stance. Especially with the Islamic idiot problems.
I believe that middle of the road is about right for Islamic Terrorism … but NOT for Islamic invasion of the Euro culture. The DM is so anti-Christian … pro homo/trans sexual that they insist the destruction of Christian-centric Euro culture is a good thing. The DM likes that Europe is being invaded, er ‘transformed’ by Islam … as long as they don’t slaughter anyone having an alfresco cafe au lai
CBC does worse. They allow comments that parrot the party line and censor dissenting comments or send the dissenting players to the penalty box for a game misconduct. So it would appear that public opinion supports the CBC narrative…. when its an echo chamber.
Justine looking at the numbers of his army of keyboard warriors over at the CBC and all the up-votes & feels emboldened to take Trump on in a trade war and announces an election this summer.
To hasten this, any pollster that calls you, make sure to say things like
“Trudeau is better than his father”
“Trudeau should be PM for life”
Any encouragement we can give them to jump off that cliff…
If you’re an Albertan, you should attempt to goode Notely’s approval ratings. In public, always plug the NDP..
If we could just get them believing that theyhad 100% support, carte blanche as it were… they would reveal their true selves
I watched the CBC news this AM.. and I think I saw a proud Canadian….what next?
I have no idea what the cbc does with it’s on-line news. I haven’t had anything to do with them for decades.
Their politics would fit well with the left wing of the ndp. They are no different than any left wing college SJW. They only tolerate their own politics – so why bother trying to engage? Ignore them. You already know what they are going to say so why waste your time?
You can live without the cbc.
I will make an appropriate analogy
If you sent a group of average citizens to a land fill and told them to separate recyclables ..They would return with all
the plastic & Bottles ETC
If you sent a group of the Media to a landfill and told them to separate recyclables…They would return with all the Shit
The Media are like Cluster flies….They gorge themselves on fresh shit….
The legitimacy of journalism has nothing to do with its propensity for continuing the failed experiment that is the free-for-all comments section. There’s a reason the NP turned that off. Only a few registered elite brights, such as myself, should have that privilege afforded with strict conditions by the site hosts.
Ha ha, UnMe, you can say that with a straight face.
Wow. Self delusion is one of the manifestations of serious mental illness. Good thing even UN-Canadians receive “free” medical care.
in an era when news and entertainment and their brat infotainment are available in a great many formats and mediums and locales, why, why, WHY do we need a broadcaster to reach every corner of the nation, at a cost of > Billion ‘with a B’ sheckles? hmmmm?
cbc is redundant and friggin OBSOLETE on top of the other criticisms.
