What’s The Opposite Of Diversity?

New York Times (partially paywalled);

Harvard consistently rated Asian-American applicants lower than any other race on personal traits like “positive personality,” likability, courage, kindness and being “widely respected,” according to an analysis of more than 160,000 student records filed Friday in federal court in Boston by a group representing Asian-American students in a lawsuit against the university.

Asian-Americans scored higher than applicants of any other racial or ethnic group on admissions measures like test scores, grades and extracurricular activities, according to the analysis commissioned by a group that opposes all race-based admissions criteria. But the students’ personal ratings significantly dragged down their chances of being admitted, the analysis found.

“It turns out that the suspicions of Asian-American alumni, students and applicants were right all along,” the group, Students for Fair Admissions, said in a court document laying out the analysis. “Harvard today engages in the same kind of discrimination and stereotyping that it used to justify quotas on Jewish applicants in the 1920s and 1930s.”

Harvard’s own researchers cited a bias against Asian-American applicants in a series of internal reports in 2013. But Harvard ignored the findings, the court papers said, and never publicly released them.

  1. Don’t cheer too loudly.

I see here the final push to shut white Americans out of the universities their ancestors founded, and turn them into finishing schools for a new Chinese elite.

Ask yourself why the Grey Lady would speak well of anyone planning to do in affirmative action if white Americans stood a chance of benefitting from it.

Jewish quotas were different. The Jews were too small a minority to matter, and the policies designed to keep them out of universities were motivated by anti-Semitism.

(That anti-Semitism, of course, was motivated by the refusal of pious Jewish boys to take part in the sordid goings-on in boys’ dormitories at the private schools that formerly supplied so many Ivy League students.

If you weren’t willing to embrace sodomy, the Ivy League didn’t want you. Simple as that. Judaism abhors sodomy, so pious Jews, whenever possible, were barred from the Ivy League.)

  2. Actually I hope they successfully extract a billion dollars out of the racist Harvard funds.

  3. What’s the Opposite of intelligent ? Harvard. Their Academic standing has officially become … “average”.

  4. Harvard. Yup. Top notch institution. McGuinty was there teaching ethics.

  5. ” … Asian-American applicants lower than any other race on personal traits like “positive personality,” likability, courage, kindness and being “widely respected,” ”

Ha ha. I mean, it’s not like they’re actually wrong. Ask anyone who’s dealt with Asians.

    1. This is in reply to both Asoc and “A Canadian”, as I do not wish to make two different replies.

So, it’s alright to be racist and stereotyping, as long as it’s against those dastardly Asians, huh?

Yeah, sure, as long as we only have to compete with blacks and Latinos, it’s quite alright to be racially colorblind and apply objective standards like SAT scores. But as for those Asians, why let’s just ignore Harvard’s overtly racist practice, and accept its obvious attempt at maintaining diversity. Who told those uppity Asians they should score higher on objective tests anyway?

To “a Canadian,” no, this is just like the quota against the Jews. And that goes a long way back. See Portia’s famous speech in “Merchant of Venice.” It has nothing to do with the nonsense you said. Too bad Columbia practiced quota against Richard Feynman, and missed out on the greatest physicist of the second half of the twentieth century.

Harvard is a private university, and it can accept whomever it wishes. And if by so doing, it is turning itself into an “average” academic university, that is its own business. But to the two of you, and I hope there are not more like you on this site, you are giving a great argument for “affirmative action”. Don’t let me hear you complain the next time race takes precedence over objective test results and limits whites in jobs such as policemen and firemen.

      1. What the hell are you on about?

I’m an engineer. I’ve worked in Canadian R&D for 20 years. I’ve patents and publications. And I’ve worked with many Chinese as a matter of course. And they’ve been outstanding in general. Very hard working and intelligent. But they’re pieces of shit as human beings. Make a joke about what suckers Westerners are and they’ll just look at you. And then they’ll realize you’re in on the con and you all get a good laugh. Fuck you.

        1. Oh. And if you want to see sparks fly put a black with a Chinese. Hell, put a hapa black flip with a Chinese. Good laughs all around. And I’m talking from experience. Trust me. Canadians are the least racists in the world. But we have learned to be realists.

          1. And you’re going to love the second holocaust because of your naivete. But it’s going to be an order or two of magnitude greater than the first go around. Your children and grandchildren will hate you for it.

An example of the logical fallacy appeal to authority, or argumentum ad verecundiam.

“… It would be a pity if these Chinese supplant all other races. For the likes of us the mere thought is unspeakably dreary.”
