“This article addresses questions in human geography and the geographies of sexuality by drawing upon one year of embedded in situ observations of dogs and their human companions at three public dog parks in Portland, Oregon,” states the paper’s abstract. “The purpose of this research is to uncover emerging themes in human and canine interactive behavioral patterns in urban dog parks to better understand human a-/moral decision-making in public spaces and uncover bias and emergent assumptions around gender, race, and sexuality.”
OK, then.

This is academia-speak for getting paid to f..k the dog.
So what am I supposed to do when my female, white with black spots, canine misbehaves with another canine?
Allow it to continue (female empowerment)?
Stop it- I’m male so isn’t that patriarchical?
At least I haven’t the problems of anyone whose dog is wholly white or wholly black.
“Geographies of sexuality”, “human and canine interactive behavioral patterns” … “gender, race, and sexuality”
It’s about owners and dogs in parks, yet somehow they had to throw the word “sexuality” in there more than once, as well as the word “race” and “gender” – just because. Who knew dogs had races?
I’ll wait for the lefties to post on this, they are dog f*ckers any way, so they should be experts on this one. Andrew, allen S, and Undork!!!!!
This is soooo racist – where are the felines?
Portland is 78% white and overwhelmingly liberal. If this person really wishes to study the “rape culture”, she is barking up the wrong tree. She should be doing field work in Iran or Afghanistan.
To paraphrase the paper’s abstract…
Dog parks are places where people bring dogs to meet other people with dogs, but the dogs like to sniff each other’s butts…and, yes, hump, as dogs are wont to do without thought of gender…more a dominance…eeek…or rapey thang….to do.
Meanwhile, the humans walking the dogs are either looking to meet other dog people, or just scoop dog poop after dinner.
But then, in Portlandia…. who the farg knows what is going down. Ask a tenured idiot!!
I don’t see any mention of the affects of Global Climate Change, so they’re leaving some money on the table.
“…and uncover bias and emergent assumptions around gender, race, and sexuality.”
This line has now become the standard bolt-on, one-size-fits-all ideological cause for everything from climate change to free trade talks.
