  1. Let’s see –– 10 million divided by 80 is $125,000.

    It’s totally worth it to continue receiving top quality journalism in Canada. At least half those jobs should be reserved for the CBC.

  5. Ultimately this would be a waste of money. The Dept. of Canadian Heritage is not going to save journalism. A few media outlets with big dollars will survive (e.g. New York Times, WaPo, CBC), but the old model for journalism is no longer viable. If they want to do something to promote discourse in Canada, they should stop trying to kill right leaning commentary.

    1. What makes you think they want discourse? The dept of heritage wants the propagandists to survive so they can continue with the liberal agenda. I agree with previous posts, give ’em 200 million then they can claim Trudeau increased employment.
      Canadians are dumb enough to buy it.

  6. I gather the TAXPAYER will be paying for this Journalism FUND also, where does turdo a loo think all TAXPAYERS are going to find the extra money in their household budgets. Then I see The Dept Of Natural Resources wants to mandate energy retrofit of existing properties costing on average of about 35,000. per household. THIS LIE BRAL GOV’T IS GETTING WAY OUT OF CONTROL BY CONTROLLING OUR LIVES….COMMUNISM coming to CANADA really soon. By the way this is all the EU, UN idea working for Soros. REGULATIONS…REGULATIONS…REGULATIONS ABOUND!!!!! VOTE OUT THE LIE BRAL GOV’T IN 2019!!!

  7. He that pays the piper calls the tune. So no, I am not in favor of the government bailing out any private entities, particularly journalists. If you can’t make it on your own, then you don’t deserve to make it at all (and that includes Bombardier, corporate tick) and the CBC (which should have died if not for Canadian content rules).

  8. After McDonalds fully automates to seek relief from minimum wage edicts, there will be few employment options for trained Journalists. Given their demand within the organizations making up the institutional left, they can only hope for continued or increased state support for otherwise redundant and thankfully shrinking “employment” opportunities.

    The Heritage folks are undoubtedly alarmed by the fact that our journalism is infested with left wingers. We can be sure that in all fairness their intent is to blow the full wad on right wing publications to restore the balance just a tad!
