“People are angry, and they should be.”

It begins…

with the leader of the United Conservative Party denouncing the federal government and politicians in Quebec for effectively sticking a dagger in the Energy East pipeline project, while continuing to accept tankers full of oil from unscrupulous foreign regimes whose industries are subject to little or no environmental oversight. And he uses the point to segue into an account of a cement plant in Quebec’s Gaspé Peninsula that, a few years ago, received an exemption from environmental review.

This, despite the fact that it would spew nearly two million tonnes of CO2 emissions a year into the atmosphere – vastly eclipsing the discharge levels of many oil sands operations in Fort McMurray. The plant received $400-million in provincial subsidies, Mr. Kenney tells his audience, a portion of which, he surmises, came from the $11-billion in equalization payments Quebec receives annually, the largest percentage of which is contributed by his province.

In other words, Alberta is helping to subsidize this plant, too!

  1. Oh FFS economics killed Energy East. Further, this spiel confirms my worst fears about a Kenney (mis)led UCP: that the WR’s good ideas and priorities-which included a healthy amount of criticism of interprovincial transfers and pipeline-blocking-would be set aside for Provincial Pissing Match, which would include way way too much emphasis on transfers and pipeline blocking. Yes those things are bad they are also NOT the source of Alberta’s worst problems right now, which come from EDMONTON not Ottawa. Can we please focus more on allowing private healthcare and getting spending under control THEN do the inter-provincial death match?

    New format is certainly better.

    1. Sorry Un.
You can’t save yourself to prosperity. You also need some revenues – which means you have to get oil to more markets than the US.
Please, please, please give up your internecine conservative wars, stop circling the wagons and shooting inward and start to promote your natural resources.

      1. We have plenty of revenues. Oodles. The problem is purely one of too much spending. It’s you people that need to start shooting straight and getting your facts right.

    2. Uh no….economics didn’t kill Energy East. It was the upstream and downstream emission fraud that Trudeau imposed. It was clear that Trudeau killed it.

        1. That is nothing but an opinion piece short on fact and common sense. So the 8.95 to 10.95 per barrel shipping makes it unviable compared to importing oil at Brent pricing that also bears shipping costs ? Meanwhile we ship it South at a 30 dollar discount to the 60 to 65 dollar price and , oh yes , there is shipping charges also . Give your head a shake . Opinions are like a butt hole everyone has one. It doesn’t mean you need to be one !

    3. You are right it was economics, but a different kind. Someone in Quebec is making a lot of money bringing in Saudi oil and I would bet a lot they have solid links to the Liberal Party.
      Quebec politics killed East Link.

    4. Actually NO Captain Dipsheet, what killed Energy East was Quebec beotching, NEB being moved to Ottawa – staffed with imbeciles much like yourself and a Prime Minister 100% Opposed to anything that would be good for Alberta and as such, totally open to seeing it crash…All pushed by Herr Ober Gruppen Fuhrer Gerald Butts

I’ve seen & lived through this Trudeau Song/Dance of Alberta Hatred Before – the first (_i_)hole cost me my house & Near 10 years – this one about to completely dismantle this country…no thanks to imbeciles such as yourself.

YOU should check your privilege & keep your marxist pie hole shut sonny….

(If I seem a little pissed with abject morons such as this..apologies, but I’ll be damned if anyone is going to insinuate the Name TRUDEAU is somehow Synonymous with anything resembling good fortune for Westerners and Albertans in particular.)

  2. The gloves have to come off when dealing with the federal government and Quebec. Its bare knuckle time. That province no more belongs in Canada than Does NY state.

  3. About time.
For far too long our spineless politicians have been afraid to say what the citizen already knows.
    What is next?
    Only one taxpayer?
Property rights are the foundation of civil society?
How about citizens are important, more important to our parasitic class than imported freeloaders?
And veterans, especially wounded veterans are not too expensive to heal…
May Jason Kenny discover his spine.
I love the irony of the coverage, not a subsidy of $400 million, Kenny is wrong..They actually got 450 million..Presstitutes you do not have to love them.

  4. Divide North America into 6 countries along the time zones . Call a plebiscite with R.O.C. The new trade routes will render riparian rights to all. Charge import- export fees for going east-west traffic.

    Get a new flag.

  5. new format is good, Unthing still stupid. Good lord Unthing, did you really need to display your total stupidity so soon in here. Politics, and not economics is killing the pipe lines and our oil production.

  6. Kenny should also point out ALBERTA’s energy revenues go into equalization while Quebec’s (hydro) revenues are exempt.

    1. He has in the past… as has every leader of the wildrose since inception. The media chooses to ignore them.

  7. Yes … leave the resources where they be. Do not assault mother turtle earth. The indigenous peoples didn’t SELL the trees or the tar sands … so why should the settlers. All Canadians should warm their yurts and wigwams with their own dried feces. Yessssss! Stop all the white man’s assault of Gaia.

It all sounds good until the leftists computer screens go dead, their video games won’t play, and they can no longer check their Facebook likes. Then they begrudgingly admit that the white settlers lifestyles are pretty damn nice … even with all that yucky business of mining, chopping, drilling, refining, pumping, and ewwwww … selling. Ignorant, gullible, and dumb is no way to to go thru life … living in some imaginary UNreality

  8. All I can say is…the people of Canada need to vote PM Sock Puppet and the rest of the LIE bral party out in 2019!

  9. It looks like Kenny is on the right path. Anti-Eastern and pro-oil sentiment is an easy sell in Alberta. He must be seen by the Spawn, the greens and dippers as borderline crazy and then he will fit the bill. He will, of course inherit a fiscal mess and one of the most bloated public sectors in the nation, thanks to previous Red Tories and more recent Watermelons (NDP).

Easy to use format Kate, Looks good!

    1. Civil service bloat in AB is bad no doubt but it is nothing compared to NL and other Atlantic provinces

  10. Give your head a shake! Quebec knows that the Global warming (Carbon) nonsense is for the dim witted… They move forward while Alberta dithers… The Carbon Tax is designed to give the EU/UN a competitive advantage.. Nothing more & nothing Less …

Fairy tails are for children….Quebec has adults in charge…they get my respect… Why is the ROC so F-ing stupid…

  11. Peter Laugheed and Alan Blakney won election after election campaigning on the Feds (east) versus their province, disputes.
They won the office, but always lost the fights with the Feds.
I believe it was all a ruse.
Pray that Kenny will use the hammer.

    1. Canada is an ever-expanding welfare state that shows no sign of wanting to be anything different. Alberta needs a serious separatist movement, not one that wants to negotiate with the Canadian government but one that wants to cut all ties with it. After that we can negotiate.
