During all those Sunday sermons I sat through in which I was lectured about the evils of apartheid in particular and western civilization as a whole, I often wondered if the people who were braying about it knew just what they were asking for.
I’m sure they rejoiced when Mandela was let out of prison. I’m equally sure, however, that many of those same liberation theologians who preached their social gospel are overjoyed that the Boer are finally getting the “justice” that their doctrine suggests they deserved. They openly lamented apartheid and all its works and all its ways, but they are remarkably silent about what’s happening to South Africa’s whites.
I don’t recall there being anything in New Testament Scripture that spoke about inflicting vengeance upon one’s former enemies. Then again, liberation theology only wants to justify violent revolution by giving it divine attributes.

it worked in biblical times because the fights our Saviour was referring to were those one-on-one things, the small scale stuff with swords and knives and fists.
the full truth of Christ’s words came to me years ago; back then, medical knowledge and tools were ummm… scant.
there was a very significant possibility if you picked a fight with your neighbor, YOU could get hurt maybe even worse.
‘turn the other cheek’ sent a clear message you were NOT wishing a fight. the onus was on the *believer* to take the words to heart, to show your non aggressive intent, a signal to the opponent and an opportunity for them to do likewise. intelligent folks followed suit.
2000 years ago. now? well, the weapons are ….(shudder) the potential level of violence is off the scale. turning the other cheek now is an open invitation to lose everything you have, including all your loved ones and wiped out of existence by malevolency of biblical (pun intended) portion.
so what do we do now?
