I’m not one to put the South Surrey results on Scheer. Running a candidate that’s lost three times in three different ridings may well have had something to do with it. Nonetheless, much more needs to be done on the Conservative side of the ledger, because the right will not be able to rely on the NDP remaining strong. For all intents and purpose, the NDP are back to the pre-Layton days of relevance. The CPC have to get ready for a head-to-head campaign.
The average Canadian knows little to nothing about Sheer. And the average Canadian is still infatuated with our vacuous Prime Minister because they like his looks and his stupid antics. Trudeau could eat babies for breakfast while smoking a joint and his fans would still adore him.
Sheer has what it takes to win, but those of us on the Conservative side are also realistic. It make take two elections to displace Trudeau.
Sheer is playing the long game, which is not to say he won’t try hard to win the next election.
By-elections usually don’t mean very much.

Well … it could be worse … you could have Roy Moore … a KNOWN (by allegation) CHILD MOLESTER (by allegation) BIBLE THUMPER (by reputation).
However, the successful torpedoing of a conservative candidate in a DEEP RED State via 40 year old unproven/unprovable allegations … even including admitted FORGERY … has just solidified a new political template for the LEFT. Now … we conservatives need to find candidates like Mike Pence … who never enters an empty room with a woman (who isn’t his wife). And every candidate will need a thorough FBI, CIA, NSA, and Homeland Security vetting. No Tweet history. No email history (private basement servers and hammers for everyone). Gloria Allred just proven that SHE is more powerful than Steve Bannon. And Mitch McConnel/Paul Ryan STILL haven’t found their testicles.
Politics is now Thermonuclear WAR. It’s US -and- THEM. Yeah, Roger Waters only THOUGHT he was on the peace and love side of “US” … ha! Now, his “US” is waginging the nastiest mustard gassing WAR ever seen in the history of the world.

How many times do the Conservatives have to lose before they realize they are doing it wrong? The latest debacle that saw the CPC lose 3/4 byelections is indicative of Scheer’s lack of inspiration to his base,and the inability of the CPC’s electoral campaign geniuses,who are lately looking like they haven’t a damned clue.
Where is the “Gerald Butts” of the Conservative Party?
With the low voter turnout in every Riding,had the CPC been able to “get the vote out”,they could have won at least two,possibly all but the one in Nfld. They failed.
It’s interesting that on so many Conservative blogs,so many Conservatives can’t even remember the spelling of their Party leader’s name, so far: Sheer,Shear, Shere,Schear,and finally,and rarely, Scheer.
At every Liberal blog I visited,I haven’t seen one misspelling of Trudeau. Either Liberals are naturally better at spelling, or they love their sunny-boy Leader so much his name is indelibly imprinted on their Liberal brains.
First thing I noticed about Scheer when he ran for the CPC leadership was his resemblance to Harpo Marx and Zero Mostel,and his lack of charisma on television. Someone here once called him the second coming of Joe Clark, that person was spot on in his assessment.
Barring a massive ISIS attack on a gay nightclub in downtown Toronto in the next two years,by some of Justin’s jihadi rehab lads, resulting in dozens of deaths, Trudeau is set to win again in ’19.
I have to agree that Scheer reminds me far too much of Joe Clark, or Robert Stanfield for that matter. As for the first comment in this thread, if the Tory party already accepts that it will take two elections to unseat Trudeau, why bother contesting the election at all? What voter is going to take you seriously if your strategy is to concede defeat? We elect leaders to lead and to win the next election, not the one after that.

When both CTV and TorStar find positive, laudatory terms to describe Andrew Scheer, then I’m afraid for CPC fortunes.
I would be more comfortable if they were shaking in furry and shrilly attacking him.

Whenever I see Scheer, I am constantly reminded of how he forced Conservatives of voting FOR the Paris Accord. Only one Conservative voted against the support.
To me, this gives tRUDEau and the LIEberals the political power to bring in the “tRUDEau Carbon Tax.” If the Conservatives try to oppose the “tRUDEau Carbon Tax” on Canada, all the LIEberals have to do is remind the Conservatives about this particular vote – which ends the debate.
There was a picture of Scheer and Kerry- Lynn Findlay that went through Facebook just before the by-election.
It Stated:
“What South Surrey- White Rock needs is a representative that will stand up against poor decisions from the Ottawa Liberals, not stand with them. Kerry- Lynn Findlay will be that strong representative. – Andrew Scheer”
Surrey is AGAINST the pipeline and this shows that the Conservative Party APPEARS to be in support of Surrey and not the approved pipeline by tRUDEau and the LIEberals. The voters just voted for the LIEberals – do not know why – probably because they had a choice between “light LIEberals” or the real thing, and a poor turn out. (I thought there would be a bigger turnout because of the pipeline issue.)
Scheer is doing a great job in keeping the Fiance Minister in check and accountable, and other things I agree with; yet he should stop appearing to be supporting the LIEberals and tRUDEau.
So far the Conservative Party is the ONLY party to vote for, because there is no other alternative to tRUDEau and the LIEberals.
Trudeau is in way over his head. Give it time folks. And the NDP have elected a court jester to lead them.
I will happily place a bet that Scheer will be PM, it is just a question of when.
As long as Tories refuse to be the anti-Trudeau and Trudeau floods this country with rice bowl voters, Scheer is irrelevant.
You’re delusional. Scheer isn’t playing any game long or short. He will never be PM, and the CPC is vacuous. They have no point at this point. The next recession might shake things up put Trudeau is still primed to win the next election in a walk.
That’s like betting that eventually we’ll have an earthquake off the West Coast.
Trouble is, we need someone NOW who can at least take the Liberals to a minority government next election,so far I don’t see anyone in Opposition who can do that.

Canada, especially the East, is a genteel and nervous little Country, trying desperately to assure ourselves that we’re “better than them damned Yankees” and no longer beholden to Britain. They are like bleating sheep looking for a shepherd and his Maremma to look out for them.
I have long believed the West should separate,but unfortunately that movement has never found the Leader who can lead us out of this tortured land. So,we shall remain the second class citizens of this Country we have been since long before Confederation.
The CPC should have chosen Bernier,who isn’t perfect but has more cachet than the Ottawa born child of civil servants who started in politics in kindergarten they have now,Scheer.
Hogg is the former mayor of White Rock and former Liberal MLA for the area.
So, let’s face it, he’s a popular guy there, and that is the main reason he won, asid3 from the lousy CPC candidate.
Byelection. Doesn’t mean much
Conservative Dianne Watts won White Rock/South Surrey in 2015 by 1,400 votes, Liberal Gordon Hogg just won the by-election by 1,600 votes with some 4,000 fewer voters casting their ballots. I think 2019 will show very different results.
While I agree the next election is not winnable with Shcheer at the helm , I believe it is unlikely you can find any person to run under the conservative banner that will be embraced by the progressive majority. I also agree with the Clown Party of Canada that trying to out Liberal the Liberals is no solution. There is no political solution for the people who are producing more than they take . Insanity is defined by doing the same things over and over again and expecting a different result .

(Nafta, China, payment to Khadr, now we are buying used jets and refusing to allow Boeing to compete, NOT because Boeing has any case against Canada, but because they have a claim against a private company . . . that’s outrageous really and reveals how self-serving the Liberals are.) I agree. We have never had a weaker Prime Minister and Liberal policies are hurting Canada. People will begin to feel this before the next election.
I have a lot of hope for Scheer, not to mention that he is a Saskatchewan boy. Lance mentions South Surrey. Mother of Jesus! Look at the voter turnout! Population, 94,678, number of electors on list: 79,359. How many show up to vote?? 30,383. The CPC could have taken that seat easy!! We lost it by 1545 votes! So the seat could have gone either way!!
Pathetic!! How do we get people to vote?? They can’t give out big screen TVs anymore, everyone is so fed up with the networks they’re disconnecting. My neighbour was so disgusted with TV, , he got rid of his dish. He took the $79.00 a month, traded in his car and came home with a new Chevy Impala. Nice car!! I’m afraid you’re right, Don. I used to be PROUD to be Canadian, but now, with Jr. in charge federally and my home province being raped financially by Rachel’s pirates, I am presently exploring ways that I can move to the US, to a philosophically conservative state.
