  1. What I would give for Findlay to be Liberal leader and Bernier the CPC leader.
Oh Scheer also chimped out of his free speech ‘stance’ ie pretension. If you didn’t see that coming you’re not very bright. You should also see the result of the next election coming pretty easy. It does not produce a CPC government that’s for sure.

  2. I give up. Who did we pick to lead the CPC? Wake me up when we find someone like Harper, but with a spine.

  3. The Conservatives appear to have elected wee Juthtin but without the Ramadan socks.

  4. It says something about Canada when the two major parties both reject principled leaders for a centrist “Conservative” squish and a vacuous spawn of Canada’s worst Prime Minister.

  5. Ridiculous. When a someone wins a leadership in either party on a platform declaring that will end SM let me know.

  6. I don’t know if MHF is more conservative than the CPC leader but she isn’t the librano leader because during the leadership contest she wanted to get rid of supply management. 75% of Canada’s dairy is located in ON and quebek. It’s about votes and the libranos know it. Goodbye Martha.
I happen to agree with MHF and it will be interesting to watch the libranos squirm when the Yanks turn the screws on Canadian dairy. I expect the libranos to sell out something in agriculture in order to save dairy one more time.
Free trade is not a librano strong suit. Trade scares them – they don’t understand commerce. They didn’t see the election of Trump coming. When he talked about getting rid of NAFTA they didn’t take him serious. They were completely unprepared for what happened. Sure they talked tough but they didn’t have clue what to do. So unprepared are they that they have assigned the Minister herself to lead negotiations. Where’s our Simon Reisman this time?
I fear for Canada in these talks. Freeland is completely out of her depth – as are the libranos.

  7. Exactly! The Laurentian Elite and their media stooges will not allow anyone not controllable by them to be leaders.
    Dan S. and B A, exactly.
Lance nails it with his opener. Who knew Martha has brass ones, on this topic at least. But then she does not have to cater to any interest group at the moment.

  8. WE chose Harpo Marx to lead the CPC. Take a look, he’s the reincarnation of the beloved clown, without the same level of talent.
If you viewed the LPC leadership debates, it became obvious that MHF was by far the best candidate,a self made business woman with a head on her shoulders, not a f***ing dilletante running on his name and empty head.
I believe the establishment knew Butts could make JT a winner, MHF less certain.

  9. I was willing to give Scheer the benefit of the doubt, but his actions over the last couple of days have turned me off. My vote goes Libertarian in the next election

  11. I voted for Sheer, and almost immediately regretted it. Backed Global cooling/warming/change. I knew I’d made a mistake. No guarantee Bernier would be better, but it can’t get worse than Sheer.

  12. I agree, our current government is more interested in style than substance and political correctness than reality.

  13. Andrew Scheer
    A Liberal steer
    Dressed in Tory blue
    But on climate change
    And milk and eggs
    He’s with turdo la doo

  14. A little reflection on the history of Reform and its eventual merger with the PC party. Joe Clark and his ilk started the slide which saw Mulroney take advantage and garner 2 landside victories. Westerners soon realized there was no place in the PC party as the eastern cabal of Ontario progressives and Quebec separatist used the PC Party for their own goals.
The only reason McKay did not become the leader of the merged PC and Reform was the sheer strength and organization of the Reform movement. The press of the day was clearly working against Harper. Their branding of the Reform movement was not unlike what is happening in the USA right now.
The real issues of governance in Canada are not addressed by media, pundits or the vast majority of politicians. As a result the majority of Canadians are not informed and their political involvement superficial at best. Our politicians(?) are now comfortable in simply buying votes as their use of debt goes unchallenged. Financial literacy is at a all time low. National security issues go unaddressed (laughable).
The environment I describe should be a ideal one for the rebirth of a conservative movement, if I am right. Yet, what do we see? A CPC Party who equate renewal to members sending more money. Grassroots organization have been killed off with no effort to revitalize. The Party is a top down org without a coherent message. The failures of the past 10 years apparently does not warrant accountability.
What I saw in Reform was a philosophy that demanded grassroots accountability and education of issues facing the country. Most of that is gone now. As a conservative in Western Canada I have stepped back and await an inevitable crisis in this country. The CPC does not appear able to get its act together. The alternative is to let the progressives have their way as they will certainly speed up the inevitable crisis. Perhaps through crisis fundamental values can be re-established.

  15. “The real issues of governance in Canada are not addressed by media, pundits or the vast majority of politicians. As a result the majority of Canadians are not informed and their political involvement superficial at best. ”
The majority is ignorant because of laziness, comfort, and an almost total absence of curiosity.

  16. You can’t fix stupid, you really can’t. You can’t fix a system that is inherently designed to promote and support stupid.
Vote NDP. Vote NDP everywhere, vote often. Join the NDP and push even more radical policies. You can’t fix stupid, but you can crush it. The faster we hit that wall the faster we can get out of the car.
    Pedal to the floor…..

  17. After trashing The Rebel (along with its 850,000 or so subscribers) I could never vote for Andrew Scheer. Living in Alberta, maybe a Social Crediter will run so I have someone to vote for. Max was the guy who could win. Scheer has half the sense and personality of Joe Clark and Robert Stanfield. I might as not not vote for him at all because he can do nothing but lose.

  18. Progressives are always this smart.
Voters voted Liberal, therefor they will vote Conservative if we appear to be Liberal Lite.
Except liberal lite gets us to the same place, just slower and with a more prolonged agony.
Oh the agony, if you engage in productive work in Canada, you now benefit the “Greater Good” more than yourself and your own.
    Total taxation cometh,with zero representation.
Better this bus load of loonies crashes and burns now, while we still have some citizens who can still do basic maths and basic repairs.
My lesson from Harper, Reform of an established Kleptocracy is impossible by peaceful means.
As Other Peoples Money runs out,the fools and bandits will eat each other.
With heavy fallout for the politically ignorant.
Tis human nature, a large percentage of us require instant gratification.
They will take what they do not make and destroy what they cannot steal.
Yes your typical Never Done Paying Voter.
60% of us vote gimmee gimmee .
    Maths is hard.
History seems to indicate that civil society can support 1 freeloader(Civic helper) for every 10 productive citizens.
Any time that ratio rises, civilization seems to fall.

  19. Martha Hall Findlay was not just the most interesting and capable candidate (twice) for the leadership of the Liberal Party, she was the only one. Indeed, I often hoped that Stephen Harper could have convinced her that she was in the wrong party, because all of the good economic ideas resided on the right. Too bad for Ms Hall Findlay; too bad for the CPC.
Don`t be so quick to abandon Andrew Scheer. Some of his backtracking has been a disappointment, but, like it or not, he will lead the CPC into the next election against Justin Trudeau. If you think that there is no difference between the two, you`ve not been paying attention. Mr Scheer cannot win only with social conservatives, not with only libertarians, not with only low-tax fiscal conservatives. He needs all three.
More than that, have you ever noticed that Liberals almost never bad-mouth their leader. They may not get everything they want from Mr Trudeau, but they know that, without him keeping power, they don`t get anything they want (i.e., money, power, privilege,etc.). The attitude of far to many Canadian conservatives seems to be that we don`t get everything we want, we`ll stay home, spoil our vote, encourage the financial and political collapse of the country, or set up in armed enclaves in the foothills.
After all, it isn`t like the CPC just elected Michael Chong.
