I will support any leadership candidate who is willing to tell Bouffant Boy Justin Trudeau and his boot licking media toadies to go and pound sand.
The problem is that you’d have to get them to understand why levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) is not a very good metric of the actual cost of electricity. Then you’d have to explain intermittent vs. dispatchable power, retail vs. wholesale pricing, nameplate capacity vs. actual production, peak pricing, etc. They can’t even be bothered to notice that wind and solar heavy jurisdictions have the worst of all worlds- high retail prices and unreliable power. Politicians are generally only good at getting elected so they delegate everything else to “experts” who tend to follow fads not facts.
Unless there’s a breakthrough technology, SaskPower’s renewable targets will make electricity more unaffordable than Ontario. Relocating to cheaper, warmer climates for as much of the year as possible may be the best solution in this scenario. Hope I’m wrong but skyrocketing electricity prices are the norm for high percentage wind and solar generation. In an extremely cold place like Saskatchewan it can only be worse.
I will vote for the person who says, and backs up saying, I will not take anything from a single taxpaying Canadian and will never borrow money to expand government. Now, when hell freezes over give me a call.
Renewable energy may be renewable but it isn’t sustainable with the existing technology available to harvest it.

You could try using a simplified example for politicians.
Imagine that you have two cars, green and conventional ICE. The green car is very expensive but taxpayers subsidize the cost and mandate that everyone must buy one. The problem is that it only starts intermittently. It only starts once or twice every morning at 8am when you need to get to work so you have to call a cab or uber (who can charge premium prices because everyone has unreliable transportation). When it does run it runs very clean. The ICE is cheaper even after the government adds all kinds of fees and charges. It also starts every morning. It is runs dirtier than the clean car. Which car would you rather have?
In the end you have to buy two cars. The green one mandated by government and one with an ICE, spending well over twice as much to get to work than just buying a car with an ICE. Somehow this is progress.
Like the two cars, every MW of wind and solar electricity must be backed up 80-100% by conventional power, or more expensive and less reliable energy storage. The exception being nuclear and hydro.

I might add that Wall really disappointed me today by wading into the Charlottesville issue and saying ““If one side includes Nazis and the other side does not…there is no moral equivalency.” He showed his complete ignorance of what is going on in the US. Yes, the so-called nationalist side had KKK, Nazis, etc in their ranks, but they had a legal permit. The other side had every sort of communist sympathizer possible in its ranks and had no permit and came to fight. Two by fours with screws sticking out on the ends are weapons.
