Why does everyone want to dump on farmers? Red Rachel chose to give up all her rural constituencies in the next election by going to war on farmers.
If the truth be known, a large number of companies are successfully managed by wives who maybe spend a few hours per week at it. The hubby out driving the truck, tractor, etc. may be putting in 60 or more hours per week but he is often as dumb as a stump. How would some third party make a determination as to whose work is more valuable? It’s impossible, so why try? Wages were always open to a reasonableness challenge but not dividends as the assumption was that they were a return on investment. It ain’t broke so don’t fix it.

The continuing attack on ‘family farm values’ relentlessly proceeds with financial evisceration
so the state can take over the agricultural businesses.
They couldn’t crush them with the Wheat Board, so they’ve moved on to another method of undercutting family businesses; because the almighty state can do it so much better.
Like East Germany, pretty soon they’ll tell you, “You can milk the cow, but the cow belongs to the state.”
If you want your farm, you can keep your farm; by incurring higher levels of indebtedness by borrowing to pay taxes, via interest rates.
In short, you get to pay interest ‘rent’ on the property you supposedly already ‘own’!
This is how the LIEberals manage to get the ‘budget to balance itself’…on the backs of hard working farmers!

With Trump putting supply management in its cross hairs for NAFTA renegotiation and now this looks like the makings of a perfect storm.

I still remember talking to people who were planning to vote for hair lisp and they said their primary reasoning was they wanted a tax cut. From a liberal. Seriously. I just couldn’t believe the stupidity.

Are the Liberals going to float the idea of a “land bank” in order to make the confiscatory tax payments?

US inheritance taxes have decimated the “family farm”. But sadly, John Cougar Mellencamp, Willie Nelson, et.al. sang songs about Evil bankers … instead of Evil tax policy. And who is pleased by the fire sales of family farms (to pay the inheritance taxes) ? Of course … big corporate agriculture … and the IRS … and leftists who would prefer all agriculture provided by the Federal Govt.

I’m surprised the Liberals haven’t floated the idea of an inheritance tax.

There is one, but it’s not called that. Rather than the beneficiaries paying for their inheritance tax up front, it’s paid by the estate.
I’m finding out all about that idiocy now that I’m sorting out what my father left behind when he died earlier this year. I expect that about 10% of the estate will go to income tax next year. In order to pay that, I’ll have to sell some of the investments and the government gets even more tax on the resulting capital gain.
The government just loves it when someone dies. It’s the one institution that’ll be guaranteed to make money off it no matter what. And then it wonders why the economy performs badly because investment capital goes elsewhere.

In the Liberals’ mind, farmers are rural redknecks who deserve to be taxed, after all, they live in cities, never meet a farmer andget their food from the supermarket.

Like taxing of group benefits last fall this is a trial balloon. And like that balloon this one will be taken down in the next few months. The push back from all sides – including the Ag sector – is big and getting much much bigger.
