  8. Government says ethanol must be produced. Farmers grow corn to make ethanol. Is there a subsidy there somewhere?
    Government says CO2 is bad and must be reduced. Charges farmer when producing ethanol.
    Anyone see anything consistent with this picture?
    Personally, I don’t have much sympathy for someone growing food to make ethanol.
    His first mistake was growing something mandated by the government…

  10. To make matters worse, he (and everyone else in Ontariowe) are paying HST on the carbon tax. The actual added cost is (2.76 x 1.13)= 3.12cents/litre or 6.25% more.

  11. We all play into the leftist narrative by continually parroting and agreeing with their naming this a ‘Carbon Tax’. People associate carbon with the black icky stuff that gets on your hands. Black icky stuff and taxes are easy to conflate. We should always refer to the new tax as what it actually is; A Carbon Dioxide tax. The new tax on air.

  14. This is an excellent point. Words make a difference in how we perceive things. I have a friend who at an earlier point did not realize we breathe out CO2. I am sure she is not the only one. Plants using CO2 for nourishment should also be emphasized as much as possible.

  17. You might be surprised at the number of people who do not realize that we exhale carbon dioxide and that same carbon dioxide is necessary for plant growth. A great many people cannot differentiate between carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide and equate carbon dioxide with the deadly gas emitted from engine exhaust or a blocked chimney. You just can’t fix stupid.

    Omission is your operative word.
    That is not to say that the fees, levies and other such charges to be disguised from taxes, is not an extortion schemes. These have become standard operating procedures for government to skim off the top to pay to their favored.
    You have to remember, the proletariat wants free stuff. Somebody gotta pay.
    Only LIV’s think that the money is….just there….for the taking….politicians will help them to help themselves…..easy as that.

    Right, so if you create CO2 you pay tax, if your asset sequesters CO2 from the air, should you not receive credits?

    No sympathy from me.
    My tax bill is higher and the expected life of all of the gas powered tools I use is shorter because of him.

    Well, it’s not the farmer who makes the choice whether his corn is going for livestock feed, oil, dozens of other products, or ethanol. He simply hauls it to the elevator.
    That being said, almost 40 percent of North America’s corn harvest does end up going for ethanol. That’s a lot of agricultural land devoted to nonsense instead of producing food.

    Actually it is, different varieties or breed of crop. So, the farmer, very much has a large say in determine where the crops will be going.
    If I remember correctly, the difference between human feed, ethanol production, and livestock feed are pretty different, and there is not much value is mixing/matching.

  30. Incorrect. Premium gasoline does not contain ethanol at our pumps. There is a choice for those who are informed.
