All I know about cutting trade ties with the US is how well it worked out for Cuba.
Under Mark Carney, Canada’s posture toward the United States has shifted with surprising speed—less theatrical than Trump’s, but no less consequential. In April 2025, we were promised a renewed economic and security partnership. By the summer, we were told the existing deal was already the best possible outcome. Fast forward to April 2026, and suddenly our reliance on the U.S. is framed as a strategic weakness. All of this, notably, after months without meaningful engagement or negotiation.
That messaging matters. Especially when delivered in a widely viewed address suggesting that CUSMA—the backbone of North American trade—is somehow on life support. It leaves industry asking a basic question: what exactly is the plan?
The maple syrup embargo will bring Washington to its knees.
I really hope Trump declares the border closed and lets Carney and his elbowzos stew in it for a month or so.

Let me posit a possible scenario why this is happening.
Liberals tend to rely on cognitive dissonance, and plausible denial to retain their world view.
Anything said that aligns with that they take as the truth, anything that does not is determined to be a lie.
Currently their world view is Trump bad, anyone exposing this view is an ally and anyone not expressing same sentiment with a full throated roar is deemed an enemy or at the very least suspect.
Carney has no plan to get a deal, what he does have is marching orders to undermine Trump.
That said if there is no deal by the deadline who do you think gets the blame?
Who will be repeating those sentiment?
I believe the plan is about the midterms and assisting the DNC.
An entire country could be destroyed and it would be an acceptable sacrifice if it takes down Trump.
