All I know about cutting trade ties with the US is how well it worked out for Cuba.
Under Mark Carney, Canada’s posture toward the United States has shifted with surprising speed—less theatrical than Trump’s, but no less consequential. In April 2025, we were promised a renewed economic and security partnership. By the summer, we were told the existing deal was already the best possible outcome. Fast forward to April 2026, and suddenly our reliance on the U.S. is framed as a strategic weakness. All of this, notably, after months without meaningful engagement or negotiation.
That messaging matters. Especially when delivered in a widely viewed address suggesting that CUSMA—the backbone of North American trade—is somehow on life support. It leaves industry asking a basic question: what exactly is the plan?
The maple syrup embargo will bring Washington to its knees.
Not to worry Canadians! Carney will direct all of Canadian agri-business to sell to Communist China … or the Communist EU. Hell … Carney will probably mandate that 20% of every crop be donated to Cuba … because … well, you know.

I’m sure that this is one of the plans; it won’t involve just agricultural products. I think they are horribly mistaken if they think the Chinese will be giving them as “good” of a deal as what they have been getting once access to U.S. markets dries up for China.
Think that tariff China imposed upon Saskatchewan canola, but bigger. And I also think the Canadians are going to find out why the Chinese were so interested in bringing their troops and police over: Canada, the Africa of the Western Hemisphere!
(at least that very well could be what’s in store)

Let me posit a possible scenario why this is happening.
Liberals tend to rely on cognitive dissonance, and plausible denial to retain their world view.
Anything said that aligns with that they take as the truth, anything that does not is determined to be a lie.
Currently their world view is Trump bad, anyone exposing this view is an ally and anyone not expressing same sentiment with a full throated roar is deemed an enemy or at the very least suspect.
Carney has no plan to get a deal, what he does have is marching orders to undermine Trump.
That said if there is no deal by the deadline who do you think gets the blame?
Who will be repeating those sentiment?
I believe the plan is about the midterms and assisting the DNC.
An entire country could be destroyed and it would be an acceptable sacrifice if it takes down Trump.
Not to worry, its only $420 billion in exports to the US annually.

Spent last Saturday at my wife’s sisters place. She’s 12 years older, mid 70’s. Both her and the BIL are former Ontario teachers, both retired with full indexed pensions 20 years ago. They simply have no reason to give a single “F” what happens to the economy, since they think it won’t affect them, They have the luxury of wallowing in their TDS, with no concern where the next monthly pay is coming from.

As boss banker, he ruled the room, set the agenda, and still had only moderate success. As PM of a medium economy, he hates democracy and wishes to be ruled by Brussels.

I notice the Liberal bots are out in full force on this issue on social media. They claim that during the election, Carney never promised to get a deal with Trump because we already had a deal in place. It’s funny how I don’t recall this. The gaslighting and obfuscation is not so funny. It is tiresome but predicable.

It is not necessary that we like either choice.”
Our entire government (HM Loyal Opposition included) and a majority of the electorate have chosen option “B”.
Wake up, folks. Carney has no intention of making a deal with the US. He wants as much disruption as possible between now and the US Midterms in November. He is working with the Democratics the same way that the Liberals always work with them. He is betting on Trump losing big and then waiting for a payoff from the Dems after the next election. High risk move, but he won’t suffer – we will.
The USMCA will not be the thing that threatens the U.S. midterms. What does threaten them is something entirely different, and which is hopefully in the process of being rectified…may take a few months and of course some upheavals.

They seem to think that at any moment, Trump will quietly come to his senses and signal that he is ready for a deal.. if for nothing else, to stave off increasing Chinese encroachment in Canada. That Trump will compromise on a deal that will give Carney and his fellow Lib flunkies something to crow about, especially after Trump flew to Davos and humiliated Carney’s WEF masters in front of the world.. In Carney’s mind, getting Trump to cave on a deal would elevate him in their eyes.. He is a f*cking fool.. running with scissors..
The ugly truth is, he needs Trump a hell of a lot more than Trump needs him.. I would go as far as saying, Carney can only exist within Trump’s shadow.. A parasite that would wither and die without Trump as a host. He transcends ‘pathetic’..
The thing is, Trump is perfectly content to let the USMCA expire, it would ultimately benefit the U.S. immeasurably, by ‘repatriating; U.S. businesses, and draining Canada of it’s most ambitious and aspirational youth, while boosting U.S. finances through selective tariffs. As the Canadian economy tanks, contracts with Canadian producers and suppliers become more.. ‘favorable’ to U.S. interests as well.
There is no way in hell that the world’s most shameless and prolific surplus production dumper, China would allow Canada to shift $425b worth of overpriced excess Canadian production on it’s markets, but they will gladly and gleefully squeeze Canada, then pick it apart while it’s on the ground, gasping for it’s last breath, because.. that’s how they roll.. I think Carney is just beginning to realize how badly he overplayed his hand.. Soon it will dawn upon him that although he got his precious ‘majority’, it will prove a pyrrhic victory at best. He is trying to soften the public up for how badly he has screwed up, and screwed them over, playing chicken with Trump using their car.. and the inevitable head-on collision coming in a month.. And, his delusion of hope in regards posture, or even regime change in the near future will be far too little, far too late.. if it even happens at all.. If that’s his gambit, he is far stupider than previously assumed..
