  1. Could have posted this under Kate’s “I amuse myself.”

It’s been a moment for soul-searching, and to some extent repentance, at the New York Times. In much-discussed remarks to his own media columnist James Rutenberg, executive editor Dean Baquet offered a mea culpa for having missed the Donald Trump surprise, though he spoke less for the paper than for journalists in general. “We’ve got to do a much better job of being on the road, out in the country, talking to different kinds of people than we talk to — especially if you happen to be a New York-based news organization — and remind ourselves that New York is not the real world,” Baquet said.
    Have a great week everyone.

  2. Professor calls for intellectual votes to be worth more than the votes of low information rubes!
    http://nationalinterest.org/feature/against-democracy-17605
This is an excellent idea! Why should farmers, plumbers, carpenters, electricians and other hillbillies votes be the same as professors like myself?!
Our votes should count for more! And journalism professors votes should count for even MORE than the votes of hicks! They are the smartest people in the faculty lounge!

  3. FRIEDMAN: Will you have a reset with Russia?
TRUMP: I wouldn’t use that term after what happened, you know, previously. I think — I would love to be able to get along with Russia and I think they’d like to be able to get along with us. It’s in our mutual interest. And I don’t go in with any preconceived notion, but I will tell you, I would say — when they used to say, during the campaign, Donald Trump loves Putin, Putin loves Donald Trump, I said, huh, wouldn’t it be nice, I’d say this in front of thousands of people, wouldn’t it be nice to actually report what they said, wouldn’t it be nice if we actually got along with Russia, wouldn’t it be nice if we went after ISIS together, which is, by the way, aside from being dangerous, it’s very expensive, and ISIS shouldn’t have been even allowed to form, and the people will stand up and give me a massive hand. You know they thought it was bad that I was getting along with Putin or that I believe strongly if we can get along with Russia that’s a positive thing. It is a great thing that we can get along with not only Russia but that we get along with other countries.

  4. The CBC is in repair mode after their poster child Trudeau praised Castro at La Francophonie summit in Madagascar. At a press conference, one journalist from Ottawa Life magazine asked Trudeau, ”Was Castro a dictator.” Truth is that wasn’t the issue.
The issue was and still is that Trudeau spoke in favor of a dictator with one of the worst human rights records on the planet.

And please Mr. Trudeau, spare us the BS. Because Fidel Castro kisssed you on the cheek does not exonerate him of his crimes.

  5. Meanwhile back at the hacienda, there is an interesting article over at Blazing Cat Fur. I’d put in the link but you should look for it yourselves.

  6. I cannot understand who in his/her right mind voted for this unqualified snowflake who never really had to work a day in his life and who -if named Smith or Tremblay – would never be our PM.
Never mind the Castro gaffe who revealed to the world how disconnected from reality who our very own small potato is but…
    Justin’s just not ready.
Kevin O’Leary me be right: Justin may not finish his mandate?
The old adage: “Never ask a boy to do a man’s job”.

  7. And…. North Korea orders a 3 Day National Mourning following the death of Castro, ” a close friend and faithful ally” against the USA.

So, if HRC can’t be in the White House, Trump doesn’t deserve to be there, either. In other words, the Democrats (i. e., liberals, leftists, communists) are the–ahem–“natural governing party”.
Now where have we heard that sort of thing before, eh?

“The victims, a 40-year-old Briton and 22-year-old Dutchman, were part of a 10-person snow touring group in Tyrol in western Austria.
Police believe the group, the youngest member of whom was just 16-years-old, triggered the massive avalanche while making its way up the mountain.
The avalanche stretched for 1000 metres with a width of up to 800 metres. Poor mobile connection meant the rescue operation was hampered.”

  13. Why would he think anyone want’s to view him during the Gray Cup? Would Harper do something like that? Boy Justin has a big ego. He is truly vacuous and out of touch. He most certainly is not serious leader. I am increasingly embarrassed by what our PM represents.

  14. I have recently read Brian Lilly’s expose on the abuses at the CBC. Anyone who expresses an opinion on this issue should be aware of how truly corrupt and self-serving the CBC is. CBC supporters tend to be traditional radio listeners. Most have not looked at the value for money and dollars being spent on this manipulative and dishonest state broadcaster. I am pleased that Kelly Leitch has precipitated a discussion on the issue, but too many people are simply ignorant about what a poor investment the CBC now is. CBC is long past its best before date.

“The Oil War Is Over And America Has Won”
“Two years ago, Saudi Arabia and the other OPEC nations declared an oil war with America.
On November 30h OPEC will meet to admit they have lost that conflict.”
“On Thanksgiving Day 2014, Saudi Arabia and OPEC declared war on the American oil fracking industry.
I watched as on that Thanksgiving Day, the price of crude oil dropped by almost five dollars a barrel. Later that weekend the Saudi oil ministry told us that they had declared war on American oil companies. They wanted to drive these upstarts in the Dakota’s and in other parts of the country out of business.
I first wrote about this attack the following week, long before anyone else was writing about this new war.”

“Arctic sea ice shrinks to second lowest level ever” (cnn)
    …-
“There Has Been No Significant Net Change In Arctic Sea Ice Extent In The Last 80+ Years”
“Last week, Edinburgh and Day (2016) used historical monitoring records to conclude that “the [Antarctic sea ice] levels in the early 1900s were in fact similar to today“. Apparently this was a surprising finding for those who assume anthropogenic greenhouse gases largely determine net changes in polar sea ice.
Perhaps it may also be surprising for those who only focus on the 1979-to-present satellite era to learn that Arctic sea ice has also remained essentially unchanged since the 1930s and 1940s too, and is overall still quite high relative to recent centennial- and millennial-scale historical periods. Even for the last few decades, the trends are not unusual.”

  19. So … where did Obama’s $1.8 TRILLION infrastructure spending actually go ? I can’t find a single repaired road or bridge … and the taxpayers have to cough-up even MORE ?

  21. Canada’s answer to Arnold Rimmer finally hit the big time. His statement in which he praised his father is one of the items on tonight’s edition of John Batchelor’s show.

  22. He has already put his foot in it. It would be extremely embarrassing for him to now attend the funeral. He is so naive. That should have been obvious from the start, but too many people turned a blind eye. (Remember his early line about getting to the “root cause” of terrorism.) He is really incredibly simple minded. How long will it take Libs to notice? I think world leaders recognized a strong mind in Harper. I think with Justin they are politely tolerant. I was recently out of the country and saw an Asian broadcast of attendees at APEC. Justin looked like a lost waif.

  23. Read No Highway by Neville Shute. He proposed such a multi voting scheme over 50 years ago. I’m pretty cerain it was No Highway.
