The federal government investing in aerospace giant Bombardier is not a matter of if but how, Innovation Minister Navdeep Bains said Tuesday.
“We want to be a partner,” Bains said after announcing up to $54 million in funds for a Bombardier-led aerospace-research consortium.

What’s in it for the West? Good question, certainly not Equalization payouts, Quebec is perpetually a have not province.
The tax bill.
So that would make 86 times the Feds have propped up the loser Bombardier in its history. As a small Canadian business owner, I resent the waste of my tax dollars on the loser Bombardier. If it can’t make it on its own, let it fail and other, better businesses will arise from its ashes.

Why do they call it an investment? There are clear rules for investing other peoples’ money one of which is the approval of the investor. In other words, it implies choice. This government is not giving me a choice so to call it investment is fraudulent.

They flushed something like 27% of the entire Canada Pension Fund down the tubes with that one.

Hey, we let it happen. We built this. Everyone here wants this sort of thing. Everyone here voted for some variation of this theme. No one ever votes to make government smaller. No one here ever says “burn it all down”; instead, everyone says “vote for the person who will increase spending on OUR priorities”. It’s why I have given up voting, accepted that Canada is majority stupid, and cashed out all mt RSPs. Saving now, only means I get to pay the bills for people who didn’t later. Registration leads to confiscation, and I am done paying for other people.
This late in the game, it no longer matters who you vote for. Monsef still being in cabinet should tell you that. You’re either a made person in the organized crime sense; or you’re not. How you vote won’t change that. CRA is headed by whomever is Lois Lerner for Canada. Supreme Court by Canadian Ruth Bader Ginsberg. Everyone who has collected a paycheck from the taxpayer for probably the last 100 years has been working against our interests. And no one anyone has voted for has ever fired one of them.

Note this story and remarks of Chief Executive Beaudoin that the family has no intention of ceding management control. Almost impossible to make this stuff up, but no matter how many times the company comes begging to the taxpayer for handouts, the Beaudoin-Bombardier Family remains in charge; they cannot really fail because of bad business decisions.
Isn’t this something like the original Fascist model Mussolini dreamed up? Interesting how many times “Fascist” is thrown around by the progressive crowd, yet they fail to see the real thing when it appears in the flesh.
Don’t forget that it really isn’t Bombardier–it’s the old Canadair with Bombardier livery.
Canadair was a perpetual government sinkhole for years until Bombardier bought it 30 years ago. It couldn’t make money if it tried and it appears that things haven’t changed since then.
If I recall correctly, de Havilland Canada was another aircraft company like that. It’s now part of Boeing.

Bomber has been sucking on the government tit for as long as I can remember. The classic was when the Libs ‘lent’ them $800 mil to secure a NYC transit sale. What was conveniently forgotten was that this loan was ‘forgiven’ years later.
Not that I want to single out Quebec as Ontario is in full compete mode for handouts but I was astonished to read the other day that the Quebec provincial government has stashed over $1 Billion dollars aside as a ‘slush fund’. The most corrupt constituency in all of NA should anyone be surprised? The entire Maritimes gets more on a per capita basis.
As an aside Quebec receives over $11 billion in equalization each year. Their ‘subsidy’ to stay in Canada probably exceeds $20 billion annually. Of course we cannot know the full extent as government does not release a compilation of these revenues. We do know that electricity exports to the USA are not included in Equalization and that amount exceeds $1 B per year.
IMHO this situation will split the country when the inevitable fiscal crisis happens. Canadians in their ugly smugness point fingers at a Donald Trump campaign. At some point a Western Canadian will come forward and ask the questions about how this country is ran that current politicians will not. The CPC that so many count on as an answer were complicit in this ongoing rip off.
Answer: Almost nothing.

Bombardier should sell off air and rail components and stick to Ski-Doos, Sea-Doos, lynx, Snow Cats….. oh…. never mind, sold all that to Mitt Romney a while back, so….. they’re effed.
The conclusions are obvious. A solid middle class job in Quebec is sacred and all Canadian taxpayers must protect and nurture those industries. Cultural, entertainment, aviation, all of them…sacred. By hook or by crook the federal Liberals will get them their money.
A solid, middle class job in SK/AB is expendable and must be taxed out of existence to gain international atta boys for the Liberal Party of Canada. Because Screw the West is in the federal Liberals DNA.
If this is all about CO2, then why do aviation companies get a free pass while western Canadian resource companies are demonized? Will they pay carbon indulgences? Will Quebec’s oil imported from MENA have carbon taxes applied at the ports? How many jobs will be lost in AB/SK? Will there be compensation? How will the temperature by altered by these policies? I’m sure our media will thoroughly investigate these issues. Oh. That’s right. They’re conveniently distracted by the US election. Asking the tough questions to government – more a “herd of independent minds” if I ever saw one.

If I recall correctly, Spud didn’t just say eastern Canada, but Quebec. He went as far as saying that only the good PMs came from there. (Robert Borden and Mackenzie King came from Quebec, eh? Yeah, right.)
You’re right of course making it sound worse than the way I said it. With the Quebecois they usually use the term Quebecer rather than Canadian.
