Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Baseload power is generation that is on 24/7 and is always hydro/thermal/gas turbine or nuclear. It has a high capacity factor , 80%-90% versus the renewable capacity factor at about 25%. This means that for a windfarm to supply say 1000 MW of power, you must have at least 4000 MW of wind turbines which are also geographically dispersed as the wind may be blowing in one area but not another.
Capacity factor is the actual energy produced divided by the nameplate capacity x 8765hrs/yr
No wind/solar or other renewable comes close to that. Renewable’s are all interruptible power sources, ie the wind can stop blowing at any instant the sun can go behind a cloud or have a dreary day.
The greenies think that by adding increasing amounts of renewable’s, they can replace baseload capacity. That is impossible.
Expect long and large power outages if we get sucked into large amounts of renewable energy without full base load capacity backup.
The baseload capacity must also be on line and synchronized to be able to pick up load instantly if a renewable source drops off.
A power utility is a very complex machine.
I came to similar conclusions when I investigated renewable energy systems for my last 2 graduate degrees.
Renewable systems require some form of backup energy and there are various means for that. I’ve yet to hear the Khmer Vert explain how that will be accomplished.
Most people aren’t even aware that they have a base load at home. Just about everything that’s plugged in contributes to it, including clocks, chargers, and wall warts. I did an estimate for my apartment and, even overnight while I’m sleeping, my load demand is at least 200 W. All those devices add up.
But, don’t confuse the Khmer Vert with facts like that. With enough pixie dust, the problem will be solved in short order.
Not understanding the basic reality that wind and solar power must always have backup sources on stand bye is the equivalent of believing electricity comes from that outlet thingy in the apartment wall.
Yet Wynne, Klein and many of their comrades have planted the idea that “renewables” can somehow replace conventional sources, for Ont nuclear, hydro and gas. They cannot, not in any of our lifetimes.Since gas fired plants must idle in the background anyway, why not have them generate their share of electricity and skip the wind phase altogether?
Many observers advised Ont to do exactly that and had Wynne or McGuinty listened Ont would be Billions less indebted, and would be poised to offer affordable, reliable electricity to consumers and businesses.
Instead we have amongst the highest energy rates in N America.
Base load??? Wut you talkin about? How can the left keep you in the dark if you have base load? Sheesh. Get with the Khmer Vert pogrom.
Backup schmackup … Green power is all about living with less. You can’t think of things like an engineer … you have to think like a Luddite embracing his Stone Age life. When the nature gods decide to “give” less energy to humankind, it is always in response to our sins. Sins against Gaia. During these off-power times, we must huddle together in the flickering warmth of “Mittens” and discuss new ways to repent our sins. Oh, you think I am just trying to “be funny” about Green energy ? Then I guess you have never spent time behind closed doors with people like billionaire Tom Steyer … Al Gore … or Hillary’s acolytes.
Hillary’s “solution” ? … shovel-ready, green infrastructure jobs, like a new decentralized power grid. Yep, Hillary wants to double, if not triple-down, on green stupidity. Bend-over taxpayers … and spread-em for some more crony-Democrapitalism
Baseload? That’s the commodity regulated by the Canadian Base Board, of course.
Keeping you in the dark is their ultimate aim. Just ask Maurice Strong. Oh wait, dead but not dead enough.
I get a kick out of the idiots who dream up of projects like wind farms. I grew up in SW Sask. I was about 6 years of age when centralized power arrived to rural areas. Before that, many farms had wind generators. The Jacobs units were the Cadillac of wind power. They were easily recognizable by the three bladed props on the generator, and the three legged towers. They were available in 12, 24, 32 and 110 volts DC.
My Dad was a mechanic and was often called out to repair the generators. Changing brushes and adjusting the voltage regulation was common, the odd tower got hit by lightning, that was rare. What caused the most problems however were the backup generators that were powered by gas engines. Every wind generator, then and now, needed a backup gen-set to charge the batteries. In the winter months, the backups racked up an enormous amount of time.
From 1927 to 1957, Jacobs of Minneapolis, Minn. build over 30,000 units. Most were scrapped, or the towers were used for TV antennae and yard lights. I recall the day they turned the power on in our old farm house, just before Christmas, 1956. Our kitchen was white, and we had a fluorescent fixture on the ceiling . It was the brightest kitchen I had ever seen. And I recall the warm feeling of sitting beside our aluminum Christmas tree that was all lit up with Noma 7 watt bulbs. God bless central power.
All this BS about Renewables from the Green NAZI’s…is simply another aspect of Agenda 21 – One World Government – i.e.; Marxism.
REDUCING all humans to a common denominator: SLAVES really…(for are we not already..??).
The only ones who will be considered rich are those with access to unlimited energy…While we, the Proletariat will be left to literally freeze in the dark….
The Elites could give a Rats (_i_)..and you can see that in the attitudes/policies of todays Western World Leaders: From Merkel, Hollande, the leaders of Holland, Sweden and here at home with Obama/Clinton, Notely…and the diversity Feminist, the prancing Pansy himself, Justin Trudeau.
Not one of them could care less … AGENDA / Ideologically DRIVEN..the lot of them.
Time to bring back the Guillotine….seriously.
The touchstone of the infantile intellectual capacity of the idiot left greenies is
that simple reasoning dictates that no “renewable energy system” is practical until
the “super battery” is invented, made fail safe, and brought to market at something
closing in on the cost of present power generating systems.
These fools have put the cart before the horse and the rest of us have been swindled
by rent seekers and high taxing politicians selling highly subsidized magic scams.
