From a friend;
Had my first taste of ugly dog trafficking today. This trailer packed full of dogs and puppies stopped at our hotel in Allentown PA this evening.
I took this picture and wandered down closer. Crates stacked floor to ceiling, most had multiple dogs in them. Dozens of people walked dogs ohhing and awwing. The transport owner stepped in front of me and asked what I wanted. I looked in the trailer and said really? If a breeder ever had that many dogs packed into crates like like they’d be crucified. Someone said “he’s not a breeder, he’s a rescuer!” I said how much to transport? He said I only charge $185 a dog. I said no you’re not a dog breeder, you’re a dog trafficker.
I started to walk away and he stepped in front of me and wouldn’t let me pass. I said please get out of my face. He screamed at me “I’M IN YOUR FACE”, with a lovely spray of spit. I probably should have called the police right then but I must tell you crowd was getting rabid. One woman screamed at me I was an asshole and I should get my head out of my ass. If they had rocks, I think I would have been pelted.
Boy, people are losing their heads and brains when it comes to this nonsense. My educated guess on his take for this transport? At least 150 dogs in this trailer. A neat $27,750. It’s just a damned shame people don’t get this concerned about hungry, poor children in this country than they do about this supposed load of these poor Texas dogs heading to the Northeast for adoption.
The ultimate virtue signalling accessory, so-called “rescues” are being farmed, imported, and sometimes stolen to supply the insatiable demand. Don’t fall for this scam.
An update — the original writer of this account has now withdrawn her Facebook post from public view, due to threats and abuse from purported dog rescuers, (some of which you can read for yourself in the comments here). Nice people, these.
Sept.20th Update: A look inside the tax returns and more.

You are such a liar. There are over 1 million street dogs in Houston alone and our shelters are full that everyday dogs are put down to make room. This happens all over the South. I foster and help get dogs to transport to the North where they find wonderful homes. These dogs had no chance in the South where it is overwhelming. GET YOU FACTS STRAIGHT. Even our City is thinking of transporting dogs to areas where there are no dog problems and where shelters are empty -mostly in the North. These dogs are transported to their new home. No one is making money. Some of these dogs were not in the best of health but rescues have spent hundreds sometimes thousands of money to save them. You are a breeder trying to make money – you are the problem not the solution. If you really cared, you would stop breeding dogs and foster and help dogs find homes.
If you live in Tampa, you might consider adopting a retired racing greyhound from Derby Lane – they are wonderful dogs, known temperaments and breeding.
There are over 1 million street dogs in Houston alone and our shelters are full that everyday dogs are put down to make room.
Good business opportunity, ship them to parts of Asia. They eat ’em there. Just sayin…they may as well serve a useful purpose.
Of course the price would go up and the traffickers would have to pay more, but oh well…the ‘rescuers’ would be beside themselves but they seem pretty scattered in the reason department, anyway. Cat lady types…
Here in BC people get a hard-on for dogs from from Vietnam. Apparently no dogs here.
Support your foreign puppy mill!!!!
I think many of you are missing the point that there are individuals taking advantage of the public’s desire to give a home to a less fortunate soul. They’ve discovered that if they call them “rescued” they will be believed and they will make more money.
From Diana who unfortunately haven’t driven too fast through a tunnel (yet, one can always hope):
” If you really cared, you would stop breeding dogs and foster and help dogs find homes.”
See Claudia? This is exactly the kind of retard I was referring to in my previous post.
To the person that wrote this article – please take your elite head out of the toilet and get a reality check. Would you rather us rescue folks turn a blind eye to innocent lives BEGGING for a second chance and let them die alone and terrified in some shelter??? Would that make you feel good?? Let you sleep better at night??? You have NO clue what is involved in rescue and I’m sure you buy your ‘pure bred mutt’ from a breeder – and yes, I said mutt – because breeders have screwed up breeding dogs so badly that they now have genetic, behavioral, and medical problems…..you KNOW what happens when humans meddle with Mother Nature.
So a big fat ‘screw you’ on behalf of myself and all of my fellow rescuers out there who really think THAT life is worth saving…..and then trust in someone as wonderful as Greg to get them where they need to be. Sorry it takes away from the breeding funds – maybe the losers should consider getting jobs instead of making money breeding animals?????
My, my, the advent of the internet and social media has really brought out all the wing nuts in society. When dogs are more important than people there is certainly something wrong.
Great another idiot.
“…you KNOW what happens when humans meddle with Mother Nature.”
So I take it you oppose spaying and neutering? right? That seems like meddling to me.
You know that in nature nothing dies from old age, right?
Tell me what do you know about genetic history of the mutts you peddle? What do you know about health of their parents? How about behavioral issues? How do you know that the dog will match the needs of the new owner? You don’t know anything. Do you? But it does not matter, what matters is that you feel righteous chastising those who dare to question you.
Do you tell the new owners that these dogs will require much more training and often therapy than if they got them from dedicated breeders?
To a liberal a rescued dog, preferably from as far as possible is the new Prius. A perfect avenue for virtue signaling and twitter mobbing all those who disagree.
Transports ARE a good thing, and the costs are not free. Neither are spay-neuters for the dogs. Killing is very low cost. I am for transport and spay neuter, rather than killing. The question is price-point. I could put 8 small dogs in small carriers in my SUV. Would it get the dogs there cheaper and safer after gas and hotel and heat-cold etc are factored in?? Not sure.
No, they would rather wait for an appropriate home or euthanize it than send it off randomly to a life where it could be neglected, abused or given away to an uncertain future. Not everyone should own a dog and not every home is a good one.
My last 4 dogs passed away at age 17, age 17, nearly 18, and 12 (mast cell cancer 🙁 )
All purebreds, responsibly bred by people who took pedigrees into consideration, did health testing and all the things responsible breeders do. Hybrid vigor is a myth in dogs. Some live long lives, and many live very short lives. I’m not anti-mutt, I’ve owned many over my life, but this statement that weakness comes from inbreeding is hooey … for one thing, most purebreds are linebred, but even if you do inbreed and the dogs are healthy … guess what, the puppies are very likely to be healthy as well.
Odd that a photo with NO information would go so viral. If fact RRT has been inspected at length. I remember when his trip was slowed down (but only by a few minutes) when inspecors from a couple of different States and a local group made a surprise visit. (this was up north, of course, not the south were officials don’t give a damn). They checked out the paperwork, the condition of the trailer and the dogs and they waived him on with their blessing. Here is AL we not only don’t have spay/neuter laws, we even have vets and officials trying to stop any low cost spay/neuter clinics entirely.
Greg is dedicated to helping rescues and shelters across the south, and I am one of hundreds of volunteers helping him. He stops here in Birmingham to give the dogs a break and clean crates. We joyfully take care of the dogs every other Thursday evening….just like what was happening in Allentown. We are the Birmingham Angels and we love our Allentown Angels.
GO ahead folks: See something, say something is right. Look into it! Please! And when you get the facts…I hope you say “I’m happy to donate to help this much needed work”.
Rescue Road Trips saves dogs from being killed (euthanization is too polite a word for some of the inhumane treatment used to kill animals in shelters) in the South where we have few laws, an overabundance of backyard breeders and people who do not value animal lives. I am originally from the northeast. It’s completely different there, stricter laws about having a kennel license, fewer dogs in shelters, and if you want to buy a dog at a pet store, the prices are ridiculously high.
There’s a place for purebred dogs and there’s nothing wrong with wanting and owning one if you are a responsible pet owner. But to slam Greg and what he does to save animals who will DIE otherwise is to display ignorance of what happens every day in the south.
I have been involved with animal rescue for over 20 years. It’s mind boggling to me to witness the narrow-mindedness of the person who put up the original post and who wrote a post without knowing any of the facts.
Sometimes social media and our instant electronic communication is good. And sometimes it permits cowards to hide behind their keyboard knowing there is no one to confront them face to face and call them on their lack of knowledge.
For anyone who thinks Greg makes a fortune “flipping dogs,” I invite you to visit Houston, Texas. Let me take you on a tour of our KILL shelters where most animals who go in never come out. And that includes purebreds, so perhaps that will whet your interest.
Please don’t criticize based on the post from a “friend” unless you can verify the story. Greg transports dogs that would other wise be killed. The IRS report was from a fundraiser his fans put together for him to by a new truck and trailer. There are other tax returns for the LLC which show the income and expenses. The maximum amount of dogs on a transport are closer to 100, not the amount that was stated. That said, there is no excuse for threatening the original poster. We should all respectfully agree to disagree! Please do some more research on Rescue Road trips. I think your eyes will be opened.
Obviously the person who wrote this article is totally ignorant of what it costs to run a transport and provide care and Veterinarian services to these animals. To take a number of dogs and multiply by adoption fee and call this profit is pure and total ignorance and slander. To Vet a puppy/dog usually runs about $200, transport runs $150, health cert for travel $50 plus fecal, vaccines, preventatives, gas, insurance, vehicle maintenance, food, spay/neuter, on and on. She should delete her account not due to threats, just from being so ignorant and writing this article before checking things out.
Yes, pugs do in fact need rescuing. Vain people who spend over a grand on a whim for a dog that takes a lot of attention and vet care tend to get annoyed and dump them at shelters or sell them on Craigslist. Seriously, I’ve seen owner surrenders that listed “breathes too loud,” “snores,” or my personal favorite “farts too much.” Pugs and other small breeds may be lucky enough where you live to be purchased by responsible people who know it’s a 15-20 year commitment when they get a dog. In many places, they aren’t so lucky. Rescue extends far outside the little bubble you live in, so perhaps you should think a little farther outside of that bubble.
Geeze, the crazy cat lady types are still going on about this. lol
Greg Mahle and Rescue Road Trips has been featured in Parade Magazine and 100’s of other publications. Peter Zheutlin, a renowned journalist, wrote a best seller written about him called “Rescue Road.” You are spewing vile lies about a man I personally know and admire. Shame on you. Greg cares for each and every dog on his truck and has angels along the way to walk, love and treat them. Greg takes the utmost care of every dog he transport. 150 dogs??? His trailer will only hold 80-90. Normal transports average 65 dogs. How do I know??? I am a Birmingham Angel.
Re spay and neuter laws.
Stop projecting your incompetence on others.
Listen up you liberal cupid stunts: not everyone is as ignorant and incompetent as you are. You do not get to demand that my dogs get mutilated because someone else (typically you) can’t be responsible with their dogs. It is called projection you sanctimonious, holier than thou, enlightened rejects from the shallow end of the gene pool. I had intact dogs all my adult life, never had unplanned matings.
Spaying your bitch (again never do it before her first heat, yes you doing it wrong always, morons) is typically an invasive surgery much more dangerous to her health than clipping the tail of a puppy. It needs to be done only when there medical reasons like false pregnancies or pyometra. Otherwise you’re doing it for convenience not to have the mess in the house. It is a choice, nothing more than that, just like a choice to clip the tail. If you’re doing it because you know you will not be able to control her running away when she is in heat then you suck as an owner and should get a stuffy from Toys R’ Us instead. Lazy useless idiots.
Castrating a male (I am convinced that a huge proportion of rescuers are feminists) offers no benefits at all. None. As matter of fact castrated males are more likely to develop issues with their urinary tract in the old age. “but they say that the dog will be more aggressive” – learn to control it, train it you lazy libtard or get a stuffy from Toys R’ Us instead.
So to summarize libtards: spay and neuter yourselves.
Here’s a little bit of information for those of you who want to continue living inside of your heart this ignorant bubbles… Bottom line is that Rescue Road Trips provides a service. He does not force anyone to use it, people choose to use it, gladly and without regret. There are many transport services available for people who have chosen to save lives by adopting instead of shopping. This link shows several: https://www.facebook.com/PACOs.HOPE/photos/a.379224078774700.92323.242222732474836/445605745469866/?type=3
The dogs that are transported by Rescue Road Trips aren’t being “trafficked”, they have been pulled from kill “shelters” by local rescues by requests from those in the North that want to make them part of their family, and most of them are FAMILIES…not lonely women or childless older couples. And these dogs are not jammed into crates with multiple dogs. What the self righteous woman saw was one large crate that had littermates together and had more than enough room to lay down and stretch out without any crowding problems. And when they arrive at their destinations they are clean & happy…and give kisses to Greg because they were loved and taken care of by him on their trip.
Yes, Pugs need rescue…many end up in shelters waiting for either their savior or death. And adorable purebred Chihuahuas are the second most killed breed in the country.
“They are just animals, get over it” … so are purebreds, and so are you. They have every right to life, all living creatures do. Attitudes like that are the reason why, as several of you have put it “rescue has gotten out of hand”. 1000s of wonderful, loving, perfect companions are destroyed every day…do breeders really think that’s okay? That these dogs are somehow inferior and not worthy of love or life because they haven’t been intentionally bred and sold for 1000s of dollars?
And if dogs in Texas shelters are wanted by those Texans, why are so many dogs still waiting for them to show up and adopt them? Here is a link from just ONE “shelter” in Texss…has more than 100 dogs that will be killed tomorrow because no one came. And if someone finally does, I would bet a pretty penny that it’s for a northern family.

This whole post came about because a woman saw something positive happening and either innocently misinterpreted what she witnessed and got offensive about it or she is just a spiteful person full of hate for people helping dogs that aren’t purebred by the narrow minded and selfish elite circle she surrounds herself with. I am repulsed by the comments here, incited by your ignorance Kate. Shame on you.
Breeders are passionate about what they do and so are those that choose to rescue . I for one can’t wait until rescuing isn’t necessary anymore, that one day no dog will have to sit in a cage waiting for a family that never comes, lose all hope, then leave in a black garbage bag out the back door.

Sounds like a good business opportunity…ship those dogs to Asia where good use can be made of them. Maybe a slaughter plant in Mexico, cheap labour, and send them frozen. Give these do-gooders some competition 🙂
It’s done with horses all the time, don’t see why dogs couldn’t be used as well…
These dogs could be adopted locally, but they aren’t. The proof of that is very easily found but you would have to take a moment to step down from your pulpit to look for yourself. Just because you would rather perpetuate hate and ignore the reality of the situation, doesn’t make you right. The proof is sadly in the death toll.

This topic has drawn out every whack job and crack pot in the pool. FFS just take your dog for a walk and lighten up.
What a vulgar nasty comment. There is no need to name call people who post on here, most of whom are respectful..
interesting. do you have a source? i have heard of this before but i like to see it for myself. I think retail rescue is disgusting.
Why would anyone buy into this? 10,000 pets are Killed every day in American animal control centers! Please adopt From your local shelter! A mutt is a great dog! If you must have a pure breed just look through the various animal centers online, you will be sure to find exactly what you want! Please do not buy from breeders or pet stores! This just supports animal abuse!
