  3. Although I sympathize with the cab driver and hope he takes the cops to the cleaners with his lawsuit, one has to put themselves in the officers’ shoes. With today’s politically correct atmosphere and police departments’ overwhelming fear of appearing overly aggressive, a well-placed bullet dropping the sh*thead before he entered the cab would have placed the shooter in a precarious and probably career-ending situation. Sad but true.

  4. For some odd reason, this country seems to specialize in homegrown halfwit Islamist sympathizers. Besides this Driver guy there were the Victoria two (on a good day) and those high school kids who showed up in the Algerian gas plant attack. There were also the two October 2014 attacks in Ottawa and St-Jean Quebec.
    One has to wonder if the common denominator is slack moral relativism at the high school curriculum level (partly unwitting implanting sympathy for any “other” when one contemplates the future of western civ). As in “my cool teacher said back in the day …”
    Or maybe our Muslims are just too busy making money and fitting in to have any time for Islamism, leaving the field wide open to the homegrown misfits, mentally ill and dysfunctionals.

  5. This could put the Trudeau Government and the RCMP in a difficult position with respect to the issuing of a Peace Bond to individuals who in the end turn out to be terrorists?
    If the Public Safety Minister and RCMP were either aware of the danger to the public and failed to inform them or if they were negligent in their surveillance and permitted an individual to acquire firearms or bomb making materials then they could be culpable in a court of law because they failed to do their duty with respect to informing the public of the danger.
    All you have to do is listen to the various comments made by the Public Safety Minister, Ralph Goodale, to understand that the whole Peace Bond process is predicated on an a faulty assumption that the individual to be the subject of a Peace Bond is able to be rehabilitated and reintegrated back into society.
    Isn’t somebody at Public Safety or the RCMP asking the question, “What if the individual to be subjected to the Peace Bond is rational and driven by ideology? What if that individual is not suffering from some anti-social behaviour disorder? What if rehabilitating and reintegrating them back into society is a pipe dream? What then?”

  7. My sympathies lie with the RCMP rather than the cabbie. They couldn’t get in a stand-off situation if the subject spotted them from the house so they had to let him leave the building and be in a position where he couldn’t run, hence entering the taxi. They moved in but only fired when his detonator went off, successfully preventing a second attempt with the main bomb. While it was unfortunate for the cabbie, he was collateral damage in a hostile take-down. Compensation, yes, but don’t take the taxpayers to the cleaners.

  8. I don’t see that the cabbie has any cause for action against the RCMP. It was mere coincidence that officers were approaching the jihadi’s house when the cabbie showed up to give him a ride.
    Those peace bonds are a joke. The only ones that work are comprised of lead and brass, and can be found in boxes of 20 in the sporting goods department of Canadian Tire.

  9. Your sympathies may change when you find out the cabbie got dismissed by the cops to find his own way home. He got a ride to the cabbie shop and then drove himself home. After a shooting incident. And getting blown up. No ambulance, not even a frickin’ ride home.
    That guy is going to make millions. And he should.

  10. This cabbie needs to understand that he was just a pawn in an international chess game. It appears that he suffered only very minor injuries as result of this incident, he is looking for a payday to supplement his few seconds of fame. He is an opportunist and nothing more!

    Cabbie said because he “reached for his cigarettes” it likely saved him.
    The video being used by the media however shows a “no smoking” sign prominently displayed on the dash board.

  12. The revelation here to me is Driver’s utterly clueless father, chuckling with insanely misplaced pride in the last line of his interview about his reaction when he learned of his dead son’s terrorist diatribe online:
    “Then I realized how [sic] he’d gone this far. I didn’t realize that he was so radicalized. I didn’t know he could speak Arabic so fluently, either. He was doing a pretty good job there.”
    Yeah, Dad. Just great…

  13. I saw a video of the father – a Cpl in the military stationed at Cold Lake – and didn’t see him once smiling. He explained that his son never recovered from the death of his mother and what he tried to do for him. There are an awful lot of creeps on SDA after an event like this and that sometimes chills me more than the actual event.

  14. Sorry, but I don’t have to put myself in their shoes. I never applied for the job, nor do I believe most of them joined for any other reason than the salary and benefits.
    A friend has two relatives (husband and wife) “serving” in the RCMP and he was very honest about the fact that their first thought is for their own safety and then the safety of the others. Never is the safety of the victim considered. This demonstrated that perfectly.
    The taxi driver is entitled to as much money as he can get, since they themselves feel they are worth every cent they can get out of the taxpayer. I hope the taxi driver has chosen the right lawyer.

  15. Where does it say that they couldn’t have seen that he was safely out of the way before they went into the house? The taxi driver was sitting waiting for Aaron Driver and thought all the police want was to talk to this guy. He’d driven him before and he was just a quiet young man so his radar wasn’t on alert at all. They could have contacted the company and told them to call him away urgently.
    For Joseph at 8.04 am. He was going to get OUT OF THE CAB to have a cigarette, not defy the company rule NO SMOKING.
    God in Heaven, preserve me today.
    A large number on SDA lose their minds in cases like this I have found.
    Use the brain God gave you and think rationally about this.
