That was the French Police, who are notoriously bad marksmen.
One of the witnesses said he was weaving so not sure how they’d get a clean shot.
The end to this will require the wisdom of Solomon. Lobbing nukes at random into hot spots of the Middle East could reduce the pool of willing jihadis, or it could just expand it. My guess is that it would expand it. The expansion would take place in untouched parts of the Islamic region and from within our own countries (as in fact much of it already has).
Personally, I don’t see much point in the random lobbing of nukes, in part because you can’t expect that to include all targets that produce jihadis, and partly because of collateral damage considerations.
The more productive approach is probably to lean very heavily on domestic sources of terror (broadly defined) and at the same time place much stricter quarantines on movement to and from certain parts of the Middle East. Nothing is going to produce perfect results. But leaning hard on the communities that can be identified as rich in jihadi production may change the dynamics in our favour. What we need to do, while there is still time, is to make jihad so costly and negative in its consequences to carefully designed source groups, that pressure will be exerted from within by those less extremist on those ready to commit these acts. And if those measures don’t begin to produce the right results, then I would imagine the next step would have to be deportation, but nobody should be talking about deporting all Muslims (or at least in Canada, most Muslims). Groups must be identified and it must be made clear that our response (speaking more generally of all western countries) is going to be exponential. One bad terrorist attack would mean one level of pressure, two would not double it but square it.
I really doubt that most western politicians have the stomach or even the abilities to make any of this happen. That means the population will have to seek out alternatives who can, and who will. But as to nuclear surgery, that should only happen perhaps in one or two cases of very opportune targeting, and even then, I think we need to look for non-nuclear (although on a large scale) strategies. It’s too bad the neutron bomb technology lies dormant, or does it?
