When being a bus driver was a man’s job because he might have to stop the bus and protect his passengers.
That was the kind of man who was hired.
The public order was maintained.
Public intoxication is an offence the police can take someone into custody for and it doesn’t just apply to alcohol.
Allowing such people onto public transport is a dereliction of duty to the public.
Unionized gubmint leftists demanding more spending to protect themselves from other leftists. Nice racket they’ve got going on.
And the FINAL insult … will be that something is finally done … to protect the UNION bus drivers ! Skerew the victimized passengers all these years … they aren’t the real clients of government transit. No, transit WORKERS are the clients of government transit. Don’t believe me ? Google: BART
Wow! What a lovely city they have there! Not! Those idiots don’t realize their city and neighbouring communities are an obvious dumping ground for not only Lower BC but I bet Alberta and Sask’s low life’s. Build it and they will come!! Years of Leftist Gov policy are really starting to show how misguided and misplaced their priorities are. Soft on crime policies and under funded Police forces are a recepie for disaster! Also a lot of NIMBYism going on.
We DO have a lovely city here, but it’s getting more crowded every year as the rest of the Country discovers the Okanagan.
Like any other city, we have some problems with crime, the RCMP do what they can, but the Justice system thwarts their efforts continually. The street person arrested today is out on his own recognizance the next day, with a “promise to appear” in Court in 3 or 4 months.
We are inundated with street people from all over Canada every Summer, they come to beg, steal, and a few work at farm jobs, but most don’t,then when Fall comes and it starts to get cold, most go to the Lower Mainland where it’s warmer and wetter.
There are many types in the mix, young people hitch hiking across the Country, and loads of permanently unemployed/unemployable, including many kids who should have been put into the mental hospitals the Provincial governments all across Canada closed 30 years ago.
But the transit system is still relatively safe, my Son takes the bus several times a week, has had no problems.
These incidents are symptoms of a society on the way down. One day we’ll hit rock bottom, but fortunately I won’t be around to see it.
