Last week we posted Blossom Dearie’s lovely version of songwriter Cy Coleman’s “I Walk a Little Faster.” In tonight’s amusement en route to the tips, Coleman himself is seen on local New York City station WNTA-TV performing a song that Frank Sinatra covered five years earlier, and would later cover again: from 1957, here’s Why Try To Change Me Now.

    Link-less tip: Donald Trump is on Hannity right now, and he’s just killing it on the security issue.
    He’s looking better and better — I think he’s settling in.

  4. “He’s looking better and better — I think he’s settling in” He has a lock on the presidency…If the Republicans dump him now; their replacement candidate would only get a dead cat bounce into 2016 and Hillary would win going away…He is a CEO, like IKE, who will hire only the best & smartest…
    When he said to go after ISIS oil…. He knew Turkey had Clinton’s word to leave the oil alone… Bill most likely gets his cut… Putin also knows how to hurt the Clinton’s ME interests…

  7. Tonight was the most impressive Trump I’ve seen. He didn’t “bite” at every question, or digress or bloviate. His syntax is way better — which might not sound important, but it is, because it reflects the soundness of his thought processes, which might be better than advertised — and he’s less scattered.
    You get the feeling he’s dropping the act a bit, and becoming more serious. He seems calmer, and less juvenile (if I can put it that way), and more presidential. He makes sense on the issues, and is uniquely unafraid to speak the unvarnished truth, so when he moderates his worst impulses he’s doing the country and himself a favour.

    Terrorism by Moslems in America and Europe cannot be stopped. If attacks do not occur, it will be because nobody tried very hard. Stopping them would require excluding Moslems, deporting them, or controlling them by totalitarian methods. Or, improbably, minding our own business in the Middle East.
    What you think of the foregoing approaches doesn’t matter, since none of them will be used. In France the result would be a civil war. America is too divided to do anything about anything.

    He wasn’t quite killing it on O’Relly. He said that the terrorists’ families had to be “taken out”. Clearly he’s thinking of Israel’s excellent approach of bulldozing the houses of terrorists’ families. But as Reed suggests nothing like that is possible in America which can’t even reduce student visas to Saudis.

  9. Wrt the families of terrorists, I didn’t hear it that way at all, that he was saying to shoot them, or anything like that. He talked about how the families of the 9/11 terrorists flew out of the country in the days before the attack, that they absolutely knew about what was coming, and therefore weren’t innocents. I took his point to be about the metastasized connections among Islamists, including familial connections.
    Maybe I’ll PVR the upcoming re-broadcast and watch it again…

  10. Okay, in his subsequent interview with O’Reilly he sort did say that family members who know about terror plots should be…treated harshly, and have their (overseas) homes leveled.

  14. The real question is what happens when Trump wins Iowa? It’s looking more and more like he will. I really can’t wait to see what’s next. Not so sure he has the lock on this thing but man is this fascinating. No matter what, this is the first time since Reagan that the establishment will lose.

  22. Yes, I am sure they feel a backlash, and Muslim women insisting on wearing a niqab while taking an oath of citizenship do not help to smooth the troubled waters. Most of us are looking for a middle ground . . . a way to get along as it appears we will be living in closer proximity. I am fearful that conflicting world views will be unresolvable. I recognize that only a small percentage of Muslims are militant, but you only need a small group of determined individuals willing to use intimidation and fear to destroy society.

    My tone is sarcastic, but I am really very fearful about what we are inviting in with the massive influx of Syrian refugees. In the mean time, the government seems inclined to dismiss any concerns about terrorism to the point of downplaying actual attacks.

  24. The media at work. Clinton email scandal update.
    -ABC News dutifully reported on that addition to the refutation of Clinton’s claims, and noted that the number of e-mails that contained classified information has reached 999 in total – with about a third of the communications left unpublished for now.
    -Oddly, though, the media outlet that broke the story didn’t seem interested in pursuing that aspect of it. The New York Times report on the latest tranche didn’t bother to mention that any e-mails had been classified. Its lead on the release instead noted that one e-mail which had been previously considered classified had been declassified for this release…which presumably kept Clinton from hitting 1,000 refutations to her claims.
