It has come to my attention that complaints have arisen here that SDA is not covering every shooting incident in a fair and balanced manner. To save readers from wading through the thread, here is my response, posted again here:
If I reported on every Islamic-linked mass murder, this blog would be called Jihad Watch, and there’d be no room for other content.
If I reported breaking news on every mass and not-so-mass shooting, this would be CNN and I”d be making a few million a year as a network news anchor.
This is neither.
However, I will concede that these explanations may fall short of satisfactory. So, if you wish, you may file a formal complaint to the higher-ups: COMPLAINT PROCEDURE.

My only complaint is that the comments take forever to post. Seriously, what are you doing, routing them to Jupiter and back? Shipping them off to Livermore to be virus-scanned on the big supercomputers?
I have no complaints with SDA or the good folks that fill in when Kate is on the road doing the dog circuit. Things run relatively smooth and a lot of extras give of their time.
I have noticed some malcontent with a few posters as to content, but then tough to be you,(you know who you are and we know what you are)…Get your own blog, Kate, Lance etc are not your slave. Really get a life.
As for Captcha, yes it can be annoying, though I can’t recall myself ever having a serious go of it to the point of having to complain. A few people have made constructive suggestions as to how to deal with it and they are effective.
As I recall the site host saying on more than one occasion,”Blogging will be slow today…(insert appropriate reason)…so try getting up and going outside>
The thing about a blog with comments is that people love to see they’re writings ‘published’. That’s just part of our narcissistic society. People think their opinion matters. If you disagree with them well they must run to their ‘safe spot’ to deal with their trauma. That would include writing the owner of the blog to demand changes only acceptable to the victim. SJWs have infiltrated the camp.

For the record, Kate, I harbour no illusions that you would be receptive to my “complaints” or that SDA would (or should) be fair and balanced in its coverage of mass shooting incidents. It’s your blog, you can post, or not post, whatever you want. I neither expect nor want otherwise.
Because the value of SDA is precisely in not being fair or balanced. You provide a daily platform on which your readers can voluntarily reveal their angriest, most resentful, bigoted, and intolerant selves (two recent examples: over in the original post, “Kenji” is calling for literally all Muslims to be put on a state watchlist and for Muslim Americans to be banned from having more than one child, while “DSV” recommends — without a trace of irony — the wholesale outlawing of a religion as the best way to defeat Islamic totalitarianism).
I’ve noted before how SDA has been railing against the same dozen or so themes for more than a decade now, but it’s also great that it’s so uncompromising. The more you enable your followers to lay bare their most extreme opinions, the more clearly the rest of the world can see this place for what it is: the last refuge of an aging, bitter, ineffectual, and ridiculous mob.
If they don’t like the comments, feel free to leave and don’t let the door hit you on the way out!

I hope everyone here realizes that kt’s latest long-winded, self-aggrandizing post was more than the usual, tedious display of moral and intellectual superiority that has become it’s trademark. It was obviously designed to stir up the readers in a pathetic attempt to stimulate more conversation and arguments to fill the void of a lonely and troubled existence. I think kt does a service to this blog. Yes, he (or she) is a troll, that’s clear. And yes, like all trolls, sallow and insulting. But in spite of …. or rather because of this he/she makes people defend their position a bit more than otherwise would be the case. I think that’s a positive.
In my experience, this blog is essentially a political blog. kt’s politics are clearly those of the liberal…..puppies and unicorns. That makes his/her comments ripe with opportunities for mockery and derision. Fun!
Moral equivalence is one of his themes, i.e., all murder is the same and therefore either cover all murders or don’t cover any. It’s a variation on the all cultures are equal meme. It’s also a common tactic used to change or divert the conversation commonly used by libs when they don’t like dealing with facts. (Witness the effort to blame a crappy internet movie for the attack in Libya or classifying Fort Hood as workplace violence, et al)

Complaints are an opportunity to learn something. It’s called reader feedback. Are all readers and their complaints correct and should be listened to? Certainly not. But a wise host might look deeper into the offered complaint and suss out where the root of dissatisfaction arises.
Disagree with the complainant? Fine. They’re just seeking to be heard – and – and – they’re contributing something that they feel might improve the place (that’s really the point being overlooked, IMO). To respond to their feedback, of whatever kind it is, with public mockery via a snarky or mocking post doesn’t do a damn thing for the blog other than devalue the product and host in the eyes of the complainant (and don’t forget the lurking others who note the snark and … disapprove!) along with providing the cheerleaders and fanboys fodder to bleat over. Is that approach constructive or wise? Or right. It’s an entertainment blog, so one should probably adjust their expectations and reading frequency accordingly and carry on with life. Constructive feedback and an exchange of ideas is something to be encouraged, or at least it is in my world. Or option 2 – thank them for their input and move on. But hey, that’s my contribution, so feel free to mock away – that kind of a response is after all entertaining, though perhaps not in the way imagined.
