  1. Brad wall is an idiot. As premier of a province with barely a million in population he should know better. It is scandalous that he does not understand how vital it is that the senate not just be saved but reformed to EEE before the more populous provinces confiscate Saskatchewan’s wealth.
He is a CINO who doesn’t have even a cursory knowledge of the history of this confederation.

  2. I don’t know, Gord. Three feds and two ad hoc “locals” picking Senators “based on public criteria” sounds like hogwash to me.
I guess I don’t trust the Liberals as much as you do.
Good for Brad Wall, though. Christy Clark is also unimpressed with Trudeau the Junior’s plans, so that’s good.

  3. Trudeau’s plan to have Senators chosen by a “select committee of great Canadians” is so childish it would be laughable were it not so serious.
The “panel of great etc,” will be made up of a majority of Liberal hacks with an NDP,CPC,and Green hack thrown into the mix to convince the LIV’s (are there any other kind?) that it’s all on the up and up.
It’s the same old corrupt Liberal bullshi* dressed up with a fancy new headliner.
Canada desperately needs a Triple-E Senate, one that can slow the madness of having a Liberal government Federally, and in nine of ten Provinces.

  4. Gord – perhaps Brad Wall is against the plan because 1) the Senate is seriously stacked against the west anyway; and, 2) having a batch of eastern Liberals plus Ralphie select prairie senators isn’t going to produce a new senator who truly represents the west.

  5. Sad truth of it is, EEE Senate ain’t gonna happen in our lifetimes. Will never sell in Atlantic Canada, Quebec, or even Ontario. That POS constitution of ours might as well be carved in stone and wrapped in steal.
As they say, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
In any event, so far I’m likin’ Wall for Harper’s old job.

  6. You and Al are right. The east will never agree to a Triple E senate, and those who suggest that PM Le Fluff’s plan is nothing but Liberal BS dressed up for the LIVs to absorb and media the to crow about are right.
I agree that a Triple E senate would be good as a check on the majority governing party, but this will never happen.

  7. Then this country is doomed. Sooner or later there will be a crisis much like the nep except the west won’t be as weak and it will stand up to the tyranny of the east. Then either Ontario and Quebec permit EEE (or a facsimile that is seen as reasonable by the west) or the confederation will cease to exist.

  8. Gord thats CON-federation.
Preston said he wouldn’t use the hammer (western independence) to seek the “Western Agenda”. He would rather go cap in hand and plead that the “golden triangle” be reasonable and make the west an equal in this Con-federation. Naive??? Or an elaborate scheme to deflect western anger??
    Me thinks the latter.
The west has had a derth of leadership.

  9. Listening to the announcement of the “impartial” panel to nominate Senators, every base was covered except Liberal, which of course will be the prime characteristic for nomination.

  10. ‘Then this country is doomed’
    Really Gord?
Remind us again how the brave and noble and heroic Senate saved us from devisive disasters like:
Trudeau Sr’s debt spiraling out of control, official biligualism that esentially turned the Federal civil service over to French speakers, the NEP, the gun registry…..there isn’t enough space.
And remember how the Senate was going to save us from the GST?
They can’t get anything correct except bringing down the rubber stamp; what the hell good is it?

  11. The only thing this will change is that is one less thing for justin to think about.
If you want to change the senate, then change the body itself. Tinkering with the selection process yet leaving the final say on the selection the same way it was prior to October 19 2015 means its still a patronage appointment. Junior could appoint all the saints he wants to that body and the appointees will still be there not from the consent of the governed, but the consent of the government. The trick is that to have that change happen, that third rail of Canadian politics, the constitution, must be reopened.
We know how those efforts unfold.

  12. That’s why it needs to be reformed. It has the powers it needs. It needs to be elected to be empowered. And it needs to be equal provincial representation to protect the less populous ones.

  13. Perhaps you missed the part where he said Sask is “opposed to unelected unaccountable Senate.” It was in the tweet, right after “remains”.
If you go further back you’ll see he is in favour of reforming the Senate but has come to believe it can’t or won’t be done so he advocates abolishing. That might be a political tactic to get the biggest opposition to Senate reform – the Senate – to accept it. I’m not sure, but I think Brad Wall is better at getting things done in politics than I am. Maybe you are even better at it than he is. Maybe you will get them to reform. How’s it going so far?
Personally I don’t think PM Trudeau’s sham of appointing a committee of people beholden to him for their appointments to select Liberal Great Canadians and liberal Great Canadians for appointment to the Senate as it is really counts as reform.

  14. Gord. Just suppose for the sake of argument that those things you desire came to pass.
I wonder how many Harper ideas would have been passed into law with equal provincial representation. The Maritimes have been anti-Conservative since forever; Quebec forget it; Ontario maybe maybe not; only in the west do we have ongoing ballot box evidence of enough conservatives to make a difference.
The USA has 2 houses of equal importance, 3 if you count the presidential veto. You may have noticed that grid lock has reigned supreme there for many years now. Nothing is done about out-of-control deficit spending and no attempt is made to bring Leviathon to heel. Too many politicians with too much power and now a White House that pays little heed to presidential powers proscribed by the constitution.

  15. This country does not need more elected gasbag federal politicians bringing home gravy to their constituents, and, as pointed out, in this 10-province country, a true EEE Senate would NEVER be under Conservative control. The country’s culture is Liberal with a big L and you could count on at least 6 provinces if not as many as 8 sending more Ls to the Senate than Cs most of the time. Such a Senate would be permanently eastern/central controlled no matter what parties sat in it, to boot. That won’t do western Canada’s concerns the least bit of good.
Abolish the damn thing. If we don’t steer this country’s culture to be more friendly to conservative views, nothing we can do at the governmental level really matters in the long run. Society will march ever leftward, and government will keep pace. I hold out little hope we can steer the culture, hence I am fully resigned to our decline.

  16. How Trudeau decides to choose senators is up to him. It doesn’t change procedure for anyone else. The Governor General chooses Senators on recommendation of the Prime Minister. You can’t take power away from the Governor General without a Constitutional amendment. Didn’t we just have a Supreme Court referral on this exact matter. Is Trudeau a 12 year old in disguise? Just appoint the effing Senators you moron.

  17. Abolish the plan? Better than having senators selected from an “independent” panel which was in itself selected from a very few people with the “right” mindset. Let’s be honest about this: no way are we going to get anything other than a very narrow range of views from the new appointees, so let’s not pretend there is anything non-partisan about the process.

  18. Could you name many politicians that did not go along with the climate change fraud?
Of those who actually headed a government, I can only think of one, Vaclav Klaus of the Czech republic. This is one of at least two things I wished Harper did while in power: call the bluff on the warmists. The other would have been, instead of sniping at the Supreme Court, invoke Clause 33. Early and often.
In any event, Brad Wall is all conservatives have for now.

  19. Oh sunny ways . I always thought when you dressed a pig in a tuxedo it was still a pig, but I guess I was wrong .

  20. “Could you name many politicians that did not go along with the climate change fraud?” Vladimir Putin, actually.

  21. Yeah. It stands to reason that one of the authors of the Global Warming Swindle would decline to become a victim of it.
