1. For 225MW of CoGen or TriGen power it’ll take about 20 acres. Enough electricity for approximately 120,000 homes plus enough heat to warm all the downtown buildings in a small city.

7. Nuclear is all well and good but I would still like to see good old Plant Food producing fossil fuels. Terrific sources of cheap transportable storable energy on demand.
   There is no climate crisis – other than it is likley to get much colder based on a quiet sun. Just at a time when we will be signing away control of fossil fuels to Mo Strong and his freinds.
   Its going to be next to impossible to walk the AGW fraud back now that oild companies are cowing to their new masters and signing on to this nonsense.
   I would love to see the Wildrose Party come out and call this the fraud that it is, and get behind a pro carbon platform, but when the media, the current governments and now the oil companies – along with “settled science” are behind the scam, it would take a miracle to back us away from this disaster.
   And frankly it would not matter much if 85% of Canadians disagreed with the scam – media would not report on it and would carry on telling the lie.
   The future is bleak.

8. Gord. No doubt about that. They at best run about 25 – 35% of capacity. The rent seekers like to say the higher construction cost makes non-renewable power generation more expensive than claimed, while they conveniently ignore the cost of wind farms, which conservatively to generate 225mw (full capacity no doubt as you say), would have a construction cost of $.5b, while a nuclear plant costs about $10b but has actual generation on the order of 1000Mw, vrs the 225Mw, with actual output closer to 100Mw, so one-tenth for 1/20th the cost. So wind wins eh? No, the average life span of a nuclear reactor plant is at least fifty years (as much as 80 years expected actually), while a wind farm lifespan is about twenty years, so 40% of the nuclear plant. Put another way, the overnight build cost of actual 1000Mw for wind is $5b, lasting 20 years, or $250m/year. Similar costing for nuclear puts it at $10b lasting 50 years, or $200m/year. This is a conservative estimate with an intentional bias favouring wind power costs. No matter wind power has yet to viably replace any existing large scale power generation anywhere, plus it is intermittent, unable to reliably produce on demand power. I also doubt the opportunity cost of the land used for wind farms is in the “calculations”
   This rush to a loser technology will stain all of us in the end, with higher taxes for all and unreliable and ultra expensive “renewables.”

13. 24,000 ha of turbines still produce zilch if the wind doesn’t blow. ( happens more frequently than you might think). In fact, when that happens , somewhere a fossil fuel plant has to step up generation to cover the turbine’s power requirements. Of course, solar at night writes itself. These “ruinables” only serve to destabilize and demoralize the rural population.
    Nukes are the way to go.

14. The graphic above is denominated in capacity only. For actual energy, capacity factor has to be worked in. Nuclear runs on a lifetime average of 80%. Wind runs on an average of about 20%.
    Since we as customers consume kWh, not MW, the above graphics for solar and wind have to be expanded about four times.
