Canada’s longest campaign season in recent history will conclude Monday night, much to the delight of politics-weary citizens and even wearier political journalists.
“It’s been a long, endless 11 weeks,” said Gloria Galloway, a veteran political reporter for the Globe and Mail, based in Toronto.
Wait, what? Eleven weeks?

Update: Election results data at Elections Canada.

Awesome. Our election rated a commentary in the WaPo style section… and still had to be hand fed by a Cdn journo…
It must be exhausting carrying Justin and slagging anything Conservative for eleven weeks. Thanks to Kate I managed to get two ex dippers, one non voter and one Liberal to vote for Mr.Harper.While it took a lot more than eleven weeks,I did not have the resources the MSM had but much more material.
Busy all over Calgary I am told. Look for the Liberals to get at least one or two Calgary seats. Matt Grant in Calgary Confederation has been running for office in that neighbourhood since he was 4 or 5 years old. My family in Edmonton says it’s been busy all over the city as well. Guess we’ll see. Trudeau is going to cost me a lot of money out of my pocket but it certainly looks like there are more takers than people like me…
Just got back from knocking on 131 doors for Conservative GOTV. In my suburban Vancouver riding I saw 3 Liberals and 1 Green guy doing the same as me – door to door GOTV. Last election, I never ran into any other parties out doing door to door GOTV. Maybe it’s just a coincidence or maybe a sign the other parties really ramped up their election day GOTV. Our riding is one seriously targeted by the Liberals.
I America did not hae long Presidential Campaigns, you’d never have long-shot candidates like Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, or John McCain become the nomineee…
OOPS. Let’s try it again.
If America had shorter Presidential Campaigns, we would be more likely to nominate tried and true candidates like George H. Bush, Mitt Romney, Hillary Clinton, Hubert Humphrey, Bob Dole, and Al Gore.
…America, where we succeed despite our politicians.
Polls are just about to close here in the far east.
I’m too embarrassed to even watch. I tried today at work. Waste of time.
So apparently the only issue in the Canadian election is how we think our minuscule campaign is so long.
The U.S. campaign has been longer than ours already and they have 13 months left. I guess when you have a government with the strongest economy in the world in a country that is the most desirable place to live, you have to invent something to bitch about.
Smells like deja-vu all over again. Same smell in the air as it did back in May during NDP victory here in AB. But I digress.
147 LPC
118 CPC
66 NDP
4 Bloc
2 Green
1 Indy (Rathlenberger)
If they don’t like their jobs as political reporters, they can do something else.
Sure, it won’t be as mind-numbingly easy to make the same living, but it would give them something else to complain about.
My wife and I voted at the polling station used in our neighborhood since the ’70’s. I say that because of reports that stations are being moved around in parts of the country.
It was early afternoon and it was moderately busy. We had to wait a bit and I spoke briefly with the worker at the registration desk (for those without voter cards). She volunteered that about 10% of the “population” (her word) voted during the advance polls so she has been surprised by the activity at our poll.
I had my voter card and drivers licence containing my handsome mug. Took off my hat and sunglasses and presented my credentials. The worker giving out the ballots asked me to state my address and then he asked me to state my name. I actually do look like the photo on my licence but he barely looked at me. I suppose since you now don’t have to show your face, its’ presence on an ID isn’t important anymore.
Jays 7

Libranos are sweeping NL.

How people can vote for a guy with no resume and whose platform is simple, bland platitudes is beyond me.
They’re voting to have candy for supper. That’s how.
Because most of the Canadian electorate are essentially low information idiots and they like it that way.
NFLD . . . a self inflicted political wound.
Just taking a two hour breather from GOTV, to eat and have a beer. Then back to scrutinize the count.
I noticed here in Edmonton that there weren’t very many conservative signs up, but here were a lot liberal and particularly NDP signs everywhere. So much for Edmonton.
Voted in Guelph in quick fashion. You remember Guelph…Come for the election, stay for the “voter fraud”.
It seems here that it was a two-horse race between the Lib and Green (!?!?) clowns. I voted differently.
I’m paying more attention to the Jays game, sitting out here in the garage, right beside my beer fridge with the game on the radio. It worked for game 5 against Texas, so here’s hoping that mojo works again.
Speaking of…not seven minutes after game 5, I get a call inviting me to join a virtual town hall over the phone with the Lib candidate. Nice way to buzz kill a thrilling night, dummy. Saturday afternoon, during the third inning between the Jays and Royals, the doorbell rings. It’s some kids canvassing for the Greens. After refusing the campaign pamphlet, I was asked if the Greens can count on my vote. “Not with that dingbat leader of yours drunkenly welcoming back Khadr”. The poor girl had no idea what I was talking about.
I blame the loss of game two on this kid.
That’s nothing new. They’ve been doing that since 1949.
What the hell is wrong with Newfoundland?
Newfies is nice folk – but beyond me them hankering for the libs so much – i blames it on the Screetch. Not concerned – a lib sweep there was in the cards – probably always will.
I till call 140-142 for CPC things are rlling out as per the 308 projections – actually the liberal margins in NL/LB are not as wide as projected.
Because, Zeppo, the Libs ran the same campaign as Obama ’08. They made Trudeau into a rock star. Just like on American Idol, you vote for your favorite. Whether the winner has any substance or staying power is immaterial.
The press helped them by portraying Stephen Harper as evil incarnate.
What the hell is wrong with New Brunswick and Nova Scotia? Are these people insane?
I’ll stop with these questions when we get to Quebec and Ontario as there we KNOW those tosspots are grubby rent seekers and delusional social justice wankers. That we know.
I think it will be better than y’all think. Remember, before the majority a poll had the NDP and Harper within the margin of error. I think our ground game gives us at least 5 points on election day. I am most concerned about fraud though, my mom showed up to vote a few hours ago and was crossed off the list and was told she had already voted ( which she had not).
I miss Sun News, CTV is all about anyone but Harper. They’re talking as though it’s done, maybe that will prove correct but I’d rather see them all crying.
I’m resigned to the fact that we’re on a train heading for a cliff, regardless of who is elected. The only difference is the Tories dragging it out by leaning half-heartedly on the brake, or the Libs and NDP stoking the fire to get there faster.
Still, a Tory victory would at least be entertaining. Watching the media whores and the rest with HDS lose their $#!^ will make my week.
Atlantic Canada, voting for big daddy Liberal to take care of them so they don’t have to do it themselves.
Sometimes I hate living out here. Great people, but so convinced they can’t possibly succeed on their own that they just will not embrace conservative policies.
Canuckjack @ 8:04 PM- “I miss Sun News, CTV is all about anyone but Harper.”
The Rebel news is streaming and CPAC gives balanced coverage

I guess now that the End Times approach, there is no reason that Canada should not fully join the Grand Coalition of Western Retard Nations.
Jumpin’ Jesus Murphy but eastern Canada looks like an old map of the Soviet Union.
Sneaky Mothers of the elementary school that hosts my polling station held a bake sale in the front entrance lobby. I’d have gone to vote anyway, but regardless of the outcome, I got home made custard tarts.
OK I’m officially really freaking worried. Even in my worst fears I never thought the Libs would run the table out here. There were some Dippers out here that I thought would hang on, but even they’re getting pounded.
Fife called for 180 Liberal seats and I laughed out loud. Christ what if he’s right?
Eliminating the voters in Toronto (Lord, how I wish this would actually happen), I have a feeling Ontario will vote mainly Tory. A few years of that “comfortable-in-loose-shoes” Wynne will/should sour us on more Lieberals.
I’ve been wrong before, but dammit, I can dream can’t I?
@ occam
Thanks, I’m going with the Jay’s game… But it’s damned near as depressing so far
Sometimes you get the zombies, sometimes the zombies get you.
So far they are only on the lawn.
So much for those Canadians who looked down their noses at Americans stupid enough to elect Barrack Obama.
Stupidity, it seems, knows no frontier.
I’m sure that if the 32 – 0 Liberals elected in Atlantic Canada holds he will announce tonight that 6 of these seats will go to the Conservatives as per what they would have gotten through Proportional Representation. Any bettors?
Prime Minister Margaret Trudeau …
Seal the Manitoba-Ontario border.

no surprise about down east. it’s been a welfare bog hole for so long that people can’t imagine life without nanny.
the fact that justin was willing to go “full-blown down on his knees and swallow” played right into their wildest monetary dreams. just a shame that a liberal win means the whole damn country will end up paying for decades.
i just can’t get over the fact that people would sell their votes to elect the political equivalent of paris hilton.

Oh hell. Sorry about the Maritimes, Kate. Really sorry. Five years of utter crap coming up.
The east coast welfare mentality elects the welfare party.
Well those skanks like Galloway whine because they can’t even stay pregnant that long without a visit to Henrys.
I hate to say it, but I’e been saying that the shiny pony would get elected from the moment he decided to run. He is just so cute!! Canadians are that stupid.
Buy gold, the Canadian dollar could be worthless in a few years.
Hide your guns, because they are going to come after them again.
If you have any money to put in your tax free savings account, do it before the substitute drama teacher stops them.
If your job involves the oil industry in any way, think about emigrating or retraining.
I’d like to defend us, but I can’t. Bad, bad, bad, bad, shameful. Dammit.
YIKES!!
But 305 still to come. Hoping insanity isn’t contagious.
Also, Elections Canada saw fit to quietly change a fair few long-term polling stations to new locations. Found ours (happened on change by accident) and asked why. Was told the community school – which has been the polling station for all elections federal, provincial, and municipal for far longer than we’ve lived in the community – was deselected because it “didn’t have wheelchair access”. To which I replied, rather forcefully, that it did. Funny it was okay for the provincial election in May, but not up to standard now. I wonder how many seniors just got confused and went home.
Daugher had similar story: the schools (there were three in a line and they took turns – and my mother was in that area for 20 years before daughter moved there so we know the voting history well) were all of a sudden no longer on Elections Canada’s preferred list, so was moved eastward to an area where no parking. Daughter still voted, but some steamed about the change.
The thing is, Elections Canada when they sent out their cute little information pamphlets to us “and resident” knew full well that polling stations were being changed. Why didn’t they put – in large red letters – on the outside of ours that there was a change? They put our names on okay, but had the polling station info tucked tidily inside with no indication we should look at same.
I see one green on the board in Quebec, is this some kinda joke?
