  3. I refuse to purchase anything from Chapters. Haven’t been in their stores since I went looking for The Reagan Diaries some years ago. Couldn’t find it so I asked the clerk.
    The snivelling little fairy minced off with an attitude and literally tossed the book at me when he came back with it.

  4. Here on the left coast I gave up shopping at any bookstores or bookstands selling new books a long time ago. Heck, I gave up on the bookstands in the Calgary and Toronto airports. Nothing but pabulum for the politically correct. Not even any decent SciFi anymore. It’s all just crap.
    The local library sucks for the same reason.
    However, there are some pretty decent basement housed 2nd hand bookstores where I live. I can buy old SciFi novels from 50 years ago. And I have an older friend who deals in out-of-print books. His apartment holds a collection that makes the local library look shabby. Many of them were printed a century ago. They are a fun – and informative – read.
    For everything else there is the internet.

  7. I haven’t darkened the doors of a Chapters/Indigo/Coles since that leftist twit banned Mein Kampf from her stores but refused to ban Das Kapital.
    I now get my books from McNally Robinson (bricks and morter), ABE (used)and Amazon internet book stores.

  9. a while back I was in the Rand McNally bookstore in Saskatoon. I was looking for John Gormly’s second book, and every where I looked was Oliva Chow’s biography. I mean EVERYWHERE. I don’t shop there much anymore.

  11. Heather Reisman has done a lot of damage to the publishing industry in Canada. She likes to think she is smarter than the rest of us. Banning books and wouldn’t sell the Western Standard when they published the Danish cartoons.
    I do everything I can to avoid Chapters.

  13. We buy all of our books through Amazon(8+ years now) and it’s always nice to have UPS deliver them to our door on a weekly basis.(my bulldog has a special relationship with the delivery guy)

This voracious reader cancelled his Amazon account after the banning of the Confederate flag, and the absolute last place I would spend a dime would be a progressive wasp’s nest like Chapters or Coles. At least the clerk at the public library has the common decency to stare into space and pretend like the hate-filled right-wing diatribes aren’t raping her soul as she scans them.

  15. Sometimes I miss a bus connections and wander into a Coles in the 20 minute wait. After they offer to help and I list a few author’s names I usually feel better about myself.
    When they can’t find Dinesh D’Souza, Ann Coulter, Mike Adams, Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, or Ezra Levant’s latest book, I just say “too bad, it retails for about $30, and I would have bought it.” and walk out.

    I love Amazon. They sell so many things that I buy(for less than they’re sold in stores) and the Confederate Battle Flag ain’t one of the things I need.

    Don’t know how to sew? Sucks to be you.
    My advice to everyone: don’t get caught up in the American racial psychosis, it’s killing America and it’ll at least kill your own common sense.

  17. I know they refuse to carry National Review, but I did find a book by WFB,s son (Christopher, I think) in the “Heather’s Pick” section. Why was I surprised? In it he dumps on his mom and dad, after their deaths and voted for Obummer.

  21. I’m with you, SolidFPlus, I would fly the Confederate flag for its historical significance alone – does not make you a racist. Personally would rather fly the Red Ensign from my balcony, given that red and white maple leaf crap is a Liberal invention. The French flag and the English flag both have the same colours, but the Liberals didn’t like it because blue is a Conservative colour; how petty is that?

  22. Thanks Larry, I understand the Canadian flag was to have 2 thin blue vertical stripes on each side, but the Libs kiboshed it? Figures. Always liked the Red Ensign myself as well, but I’m sure that’s because of my racist DNA and obvious support of slavery, etc (as was insinuated by a previous link).

  23. Of course flying the Confederate Flag doesn’t make you a racist.
    Just because the Confederate States seceded from the Union for the sole reason of maintaining the institution of slavery doesn’t mean one is a racist for deciding to own it and fly it.
    That said, Amazon’s marketing experts figured there was more money to be gained by ceasing to sell the Confederate Flag than there was to make continuing to sell it and they are right to make such a decision.
    Amazon is in business to make money, not to engage in politics.
    Identity politics or otherwise.
