Marco Dube, the interim VP for Strategy & Public affairs at the CBC Radio Canada, explains the CBC’s decision to not broadcast the Munk Debate:
We don’t broadcast content, like a debate, over which we have no editorial input. We do news coverage, though.
Parse that one at length if you will.

“If we can’t edit it, we won’t run it.”
Nice. Government funded, eh?
They’re utterly shameless, are they not? ‘Editorial Control’ for them means filtering or otherwise directing the content of the debate instead of ‘moderating’, i.e., time-keeping. Like Bob Fife at CTV, they believe that they are an equal partner in governing and oversight. Enough already.
Translation:
the CBC lobbies for über regulatory government so they can be feted at taxpayer expense. Champagne for Hubie Lacroix…
We can’t have PM Stephen Harper looking mature, cogent, responsible or reasonable!
Shouldn’t the CBC register as a lobby group?

They are reporting Justin Trudeau won Munk Debates, based on polling of their “Vote Compass” echo chamber base. lol
I’m with qwerty, FIRE ‘EM ALL!!!
As usual the CBC is lying again. They editorialized plenty about the debate — I know because I watched it on the CBC web site, and nothing stopped them. And as usual, the “editorialization” consisted in telling Canadians how they should think, BEFORE THE DEBATE WAS EVEN AIRED.
The CBC is in the business of indoctrination, not news or opinion. And they are super-pissed that for the first time in a long time these debates have shunned the big mass-media status quo as official hosts. When is the CBC finally going to understand that mature adults actually have the ability to think for ourselves? We don’t need the paternalistic CBC “to come to our rescue” and engineer our opinions for us. Especially when those opinions are 100% partisan in favour of the NDP and fascist-progressive values.
To quote Popeye OH WAT AN AS SIAM
I had posted off topic on another thread, before this came up. Rosemary Barton was questioning/interrupting/interrogating, a Mr. Gill. This was on the subject of revoking Canadian citizenship of terrorist residents in Canada.
She seemed so het up in defending the rights of those that seemed to hate Canada. I still cannot fathom the almost distraught manner of some of those who denigrate the Prime Minister. This on the subject of citizenship revocation.
CBC: The privileged, pampered and protected part of our overpaid elite society that believes diversity of opinion means Engels was right of centre to Marx. The sad fact is they truly believe they our in the mainstream of the political spectrum. Hopefully some day they all are put into the dustbin of history.
Ms. Barton has been cheer-leading for Mr. Trudeau from minute one.
It’s a media thing
CBC News headline —
Yup, they won’t broadcast the (free feed of) the federal debate because they have no control over its editorial content, but they’ll tell you ahead of time what to think when you’re watching it, and call that “news.”
“We do news coverage, though.”
News. They keep using that word. I don’t think it means what they think it means.
Personally I don’t get overwrought with the CBC I just tend to ignore them> Simply think of them as the parasites that they are. It puts things into perspective.
Maybe the Saudis are secretly funding them? Someone is pulling their string to go off the rails over this issue. Aren’t they supposed to represent Canadian values? Gotta wonder which ones.
How do they justify Hockey Night in Canada? Roger’s has full editorial control!
I thought it was spelled Dupe .
Does that mean they don’t broadcast material where they can’t control the narrative but they do broadcast news because they can.
I think that’s about right which is all we need to know about the CBC.
FIRE THEM ALL.
Mothercorpse has her Freudian slip showing.
I did not realize the feed was free. How arrogant and irresponsible of them not to carry the feed. These people serve themselves and have utterly no interest in serving Canada. I caught Barton briefly today — passing a tv in a public area. I stopped befall see I am interested in the issue. She did seem to go off the deep end a bit. The public should really be enraged that any leader is defending the rights of terrorists. Barton made her own sentiments clear.
Nobody watches the CBC so who cares if its broadcast or not? And since most Conservatives boycott the CBC including me (not even intentionally, its just really, really bad TV) the only people watching would be lefties anyway.
Finally, if you didn’t know who you were voting for before the election was even called you are either really stupid or are part of the 60% plus that wont vote. So the outcome of a debate that no one watches and that won’t change anyone’s vote is inconsequential. Yeah, I hear that Mulroney beat Turner in a debate once. That was a lifetime ago when people watched TV. And yes, Nixon and Kennedy. Most people that saw that debate are dead now.
Much ado about nothing.
Yep, it was free:
Last Sunday’s 6:00 am radio news cast started with what the leaders were up to. They spent a few minutes talking about Mulcair, and then mentioned that Trudeau was taking the day off, but then went on that the unspoken Liberal plan was to raise a lot of money through the legalizing of pot.
The expecting something about Harper, they just went on, in other “news”, not a mention. Then a derogatory comment about the Conservative policy of taking on ISIS.
Sent them a complaint and basically said, if you continue to act like children the calls for your defunding the CBC will only increase.
Most media, certainly the CBC and their private clones are all an integral part of the institutional left. If conservatives were allowed by our culture to govern instead of periodically merely holding office, the institutional left (most of the entire public sector) would be dismantled. Instead we continue to fund most of it and whine while the next progressive government ratchets up the statism another notch or two for the next conservative progressives to “more competently” manage.
It’s such a shameless lie. They broadcast stump speeches. They broadcast campaign events. They broadcast press conferences. All of these are events over which they have no editorial input. However, there’s nothing stopping them from editorializing before and after, which they could have done with this debate. They’re shameless liars.
Don’t they broadcast hockey games over which Roger’s has the editorial content? I don’t vote CBC!
” the only people watching would be lefties anyway.” That certainly explains the results of their lefty-pandering “polls” on Power and Politics (again, I was just passing by, not really tuned in). Anyway there seemed to be an overwhelming number of viewers who are quite keen to defend the citizenship rights of terrorists! These people are crazy.
Here’s another poll to help out on http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/power-politics-ballot-box-question-citizenship-1.3253095

I had my College math prof put that up on the board once. Told us all to bow our heads in our arms and in a Kantation, say it aloud ….all 32 of us…once I figured out what I was saying, laffed My (_i_) off…then left the class..LOL
The CBC must without a doubt be completely DEFUNDED and allowed to actually compete for advertising revenue…then within two weeks you will see it CLOSE up shop. That is what I want for Christmas Santa…PULEEZE..!!
