An NDP government in Alberta of all places? This is going to be an extremely rough ride for Albertans. And for what? To send the Conservatives a message? To teach the Conservatives a lesson? A vote for the Wild Rose Party would have accomplished the same thing as well as putting the province in the hands of responsible, sane people instead of what they ended up with. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Fortunately for Notley, Alberta is not some third world hell hole where unpopular leaders are removed forcibly and riots in the streets render governing impossible. She has four long years to wreak havoc and, believe me, she will. Once the federal election is in the books, Notley will unleash a world of craziness on Alberta. Wait and see.
Sometimes a hard-left accident is the best thing that can happen to evidently display results to apolitical knuckleheads who don’t understand consequence.
The best case scenario may also be the worst case scenario. If the NDP go hard-left for four years, then the reaction will be massive and last a generation.

Last evening while I was tending the flowerbeds in the front yard, my neighbours stopped to chat as they returned home from walking their dog. During our friendly conversation, I asked their little girl what she wanted to be when she grows up.
She said she wanted to be Premier some day.
Both of her parents (NDP’s) were standing there, so I asked her, “If you were Premier what would be the first thing you would do?”
She replied.. “I’d give food and houses to all the homeless people.”
Her parents beamed with pride. “Wow… what a worthy goal!” I said. “But you don’t have to wait until you’re Premier to do that, I told her.
“What do you mean?” she replied. So I replied, “You can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull weeds, trim my hedge, and I’ll pay you $50. Then you can go over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out and you can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house.”

When our neighbouring Province voted in it’s first NDP government,I went into a deep depression. I figured if B.C. ever went nuts again I could always escape to Alberta,even used to practise my psuedo-Texas accent just so I’d fit in.
I still haven’t come out of ,but on the bright side, have discovered that Drambuie, after about two hours in the freezer,is one hell of a way to soothe my mental anguish.I sip it happily while watching CFL players drop the football on half the passes. After a few ounces, even the Saskatchewan Green Guys look good. It is truly a miracle drug, and cheap at only $38 (plus tax) at my government booze store.
I figure after about 5000 bottles,I should be at about the same mental capacity as those who vote NDP,and they can wheel me happily into a care home where I can drool on the pretty nurses.
In the meantime,maybe “our embarrassing cousins” should do things the old fashioned way and hold a necktie party in front of the Alberta legislature this Fall.

I think the big mistake was not voting for Wild Rose last time. Wild Rose was very credible at that point. Unfortunately, after Prentice and the floor crossing they lost some potentially good people. Alberta’s loss for sure.

*Disclaimer – Of course I voted WRP for moral and ethical reasons, but I was not upset at the NDP win. For over a decade Albertans have watched double digit deadbeats flood into our province, while our costs of living went through the roof. We needed a “correction” a corporate restructuring if you will to downsize and streamline. It was high time that Alberta cooled it’s economy to allow younger people a shot at affordable housing, and time to send the squatters packing. It’s already happening and accelerating under the NDP.
Yes there is going to be some real pain for many average Albertan’s, but that is what happens when you let bubbles inflate. We will come out of this much stronger and far more conservative by the next election. Bank on it.

I’m actually being a realist here, your grandkids will have a better shot in Alberta after an economic correction that will forever cement conservative values in their minds. Not to mention lower prices on homes, and a real shot at a newly reinvigorated economy where those university/ college or apprenticeship degrees mean something. They’ll get in on the ground floor of new oilfield upstarts and supporting infrastructure once the province clears out of deadbeats, and a New Conservative government re-bolsters the economy.
The oil isn’t going anywhere, it will sit idle for awhile while the NDP piss off every oil company it can manage, and Obamba flames the middle East into a generational bloodbath. Heh, just remember that only 40% of eligible voters voted for the NDP. After the next three years of recession/ depression which they will only aggravate to it’s depts, the 60% + the CP revenge votes + the disenfranchised will insure that the NDP will operate out of a phone booth from Manitoba.

I hope the Notley fiasco is enough to cause Canadians to pause before considering NDP at the Federal level. That would certainly be multiplying the disaster. Unfortunately, a lot of people are not paying attention. I agree that the left tends to be self loathing (often manifested as loathing others as well.) Notley should be singing the praises of Alberta and her criticism if very reminiscent of Obama.
I think the big mistake was not voting for Wild Rose last time. Wild Rose was very credible at that point. Unfortunately, after Prentice and the floor crossing they lost some potentially good people. Alberta’s loss for sure.

*Disclaimer – Of course I voted WRP for moral and ethical reasons, but I was not upset at the NDP win. For over a decade Albertans have watched double digit deadbeats flood into our province, while our costs of living went through the roof. We needed a “correction” a corporate restructuring if you will to downsize and streamline. It was high time that Alberta cooled it’s economy to allow younger people a shot at affordable housing, and time to send the squatters packing. It’s already happening and accelerating under the NDP.
Yes there is going to be some real pain for many average Albertan’s, but that is what happens when you let bubbles inflate. We will come out of this much stronger and far more conservative by the next election. Bank on it.

Waiting for the next election; you must be a young guy. I’m tired of waiting for the next election, and I’m running out of next-election enthusiasm. Fortunately for me I’ve lived my life in times of great prosperity and freedom for which I’m thankful. Unfortunately those times don’t appear to be sustainable, nor is there any trend in the direction you predict.

I’m actually being a realist here, your grandkids will have a better shot in Alberta after an economic correction that will forever cement conservative values in their minds. Not to mention lower prices on homes, and a real shot at a newly reinvigorated economy where those university/ college or apprenticeship degrees mean something. They’ll get in on the ground floor of new oilfield upstarts and supporting infrastructure once the province clears out of deadbeats, and a New Conservative government re-bolsters the economy.
The oil isn’t going anywhere, it will sit idle for awhile while the NDP piss off every oil company it can manage, and Obamba flames the middle East into a generational bloodbath. At the end of the day, unless they develop some miraculous antimatter form of free energy, Alberta’s oil will come back on tap.

Yes. This will be the 4th time I mention the by-election earlier this month in the riding that had elected Prentice. Despite being ignored here at SDA that riding is a bellwether for having been one of the safest PC ridings in the province(that’s why they parachuted Prentice in there) and the constituency elected the WildRose candidate.(the PC candidate came in 3rd)

I’m in much the same boat. I have survived many years of socialism in Sask. and am currently enjoying a prosperous and forward-looking province complete with a premier who is genuinely proud of where he lives and is not afraid of standing up to the progressive swine.

This transition that Alberta is making from PROGRESSIVES(PC) to real conservatism is a much harder transition to make because many of the people who Would Vote conservative continue to vote progressive and waste their vote.
Albertans who know the difference(enough know the difference that we are the Official Opposition) between being a conservative and being a progressive(communist) could use some intellectual support, particularly from the people who keep saying, “Alberta voted NDP”, which is not true.
Alberta voted conservative, it’s just that many who voted conservative voted Progressive while the ‘aware’ conservative votes(making official opposition is a lot of awareness) went to WildRose.
