  1. AAHHH. The first zephyr of sanity for our Northern cousins concerning self defense. Of course, with their unrestricted import of muslims, they are going to need the change.

  2. This is a good step in the right direction. Got a call a couple months back asking for a political donation, told them when I hear the PM supporting Castle Law they’d get a cheque. Until then the money stays in my defence fund, just in case.

  3. This is no different than the courts recognizing that the legality of using medical pot and the illegality of aquireing it was unconstitutional.
So,duh, rifle owners now have the same rights as potheads. Based on identical factual reasoning… OMG!!!!!!!!! Let’s just watch leftist heads explode!!!!! Pass the popcorn!!!!!!

  4. All gun control laws in america are Unconstitutional and all should be repealed and the Un Small Arms Control Treaty signed by traitor John Kerry should be ripped to tiny little peices and thrown in the UN scumsuckers faces just before we evict these scumbags from america and raizie the entire UN facility

  5. You are right about this being a step in the right direction. We do definitely need a few more steps as there are still some onerous aspects of Bill C-68 that need to be gone, in fact, all of Bill C-68 needs to be gone. But, don’t hold your breath, as there are two many “progressive” conservatives in the Conservative Party that will balk at Bill C-68 being gone.

  6. There still seems to be a lot of confusion over what,if anything, will change regarding the conditions on your ATT.
Are gun smiths and gun stores good to go now without getting a STATT? What about border crossings? I am sure the clowns in the Ontario CFO are drafting up a raft of new “policies” to trip us up.

  7. Because ALL politicians fear an armed society. They can’t control and re-direct you when you can take your freedom back. The elephant in the Canadian room continues to be the rogue national police force. It needs to be broken up and half of its functions re-assigned to more appropriate agencies, but no gov has the balls to do it.

  8. This is just the stream lining of paperwork in a very bad and treacherous law. This only effects those who chose to register themselves in this system for the systemic abuse it offers. The dangerous charter-breaching portions concerning arbitrary confiscation without compensation remain untouched by this Harper government. They were made aware of them consistently by legal experts and charged with removing them via the party policy book but they resist doing this.
All I can assume from their actions is they are comfortable with the legal oppression of the law-abiding and the arbitrary warrantless entry and theft of property under color of law (like High River) – otherwise they would have repealed the order in council provisions for classification and reverted the licence to a certificate (FAC)to decriminalize non-criminal possession/storage.
Half measures against oppression give zero gains, otherwise you wouldn’t still have commie gun grabbers like Mulcair making banning noises Or cops making mass door to door break ins and stealing firearms. Look to High River and never forget – this is the gun law Harper supports in action – nowhere did the minor didling with permits he did stop this. It will escalate under a hostile socialist regime.

  9. Most crinimals support the demacrats becuase they support disarming law abiding citizens that Obama and fellow traitors in the Disctict of Crinimals and United Nations want to do

  10. This doesn’t concern self defence. It just eliminates the requirement to carry a certificate that certifies that you are allowed to transport firearms of a certain class that you are licensed for to the places and according to the conditions that the actual law always specified. We are still obliged to comply with those conditions, we just don’t have to get a note from a bureaucrat saying we are allowed to do what the law already said we are allowed to do.
The other real change is that a special, nonsensical class of license that said you are allowed to have firearm but you aren’t allowed to get one will no longer exist.
Still, the bureaucracy must expand to serve the needs of the expanding bureaucracy.

  11. “It needs to be broken up and half of its functions re-assigned to more appropriate agencies, but no gov has the balls to do it. ”
I am now wondering whether the charges against Duffy, the vast majority of which are bogus, is an R.C.M.P. coup d’etat? Payback for appointing a civilian commissioner a few years back?

  12. A tiny, mincing, nervous step in the right direction, but we’re still possible victims of Bill C-68 if the Provincial Firearms Officer decides to abuse it.
Whatever, Mulcair intends to put firearm regulations in the hands of Provinces and major cities, and Trudeau will re-invent the LGR.With either of them in the PM’s Office, we’ll get regulated to death. The NDP has,at least since the 1970’s that I remember, been the Party against private ownership of guns.
I recently E-mailed the NDP national HQ about their stance on this, and received a “bafflegab” reply that never did answer the question.
I’m going to especially enjoy this year’s hunting season, as it may be the last one we have.
Sometimes I get the feeling that all politicians view us gun owners as the embarrassing relative that gets drunk at family gatherings and acts a little deranged.

  13. When progressives ignore the law they get a ‘mulligan’ or at worse have to write a letter of apology. When perceived ‘conservatives’ ignore the gun law the cry is for jail time. When ‘conservatives’ actually obey the law and get ‘certificates’ then they get the High River treatment.
We are into the federal election campaign for what 3 weeks? The local CPC riding association is a no show to date. No signs, no office, no contact…. Bye the bye, we have a sitting CPC MP and this riding has been conservative since 1992 or 94, one or the other.

  14. In our Riding,Kelowna/Lake Country, our MP,Ron Cannan, is all over the place, meeting people and spreading the word.
But then Ron’s a top notch rep, always available when he’s needed, easy to see him at his office. And the man is NOT a camera whore,as so many pols are, does his work and uses his influence quietly behind the scenes to help people who really need it. He also has the only two election signs I’ve seen here.
The CPC still has some damned good candidates, and so far, none of the extremists I’ve seen in the NDP.

  15. A mincing step indeed.
When will a legal firearm owner have their civil rights restored?
A cop has to get a warrant to search a drug dealer, bandit or thief’s possessions, yet the complying gun owner has no right to see probable cause or a court sanctioned warrant.
The only lesson from the C-68 is never comply.
You have more legal rights as a certified criminal.
Funny how the CPC has yet to discover property.
Property rights being one of the foundations of our civilization.

  16. Slowly but surely my frineds. Slowly but surely!! we will have open carry/concealed carry for the masses one day.

  17. Another small step in the right direction. Good.
All those complaining about Harper not solving the issue 100% to their satisfaction are forgetting that the left has been winning their battles incrementally and not though major revolutions. Mr Harper is following their playbook and slowly but consistently shifting the center to the right. At the moment he seems to be the only western leader capable of doing so. I think it was Mark Steyn who pointed out (I paraphrase) that “successful conservatives do not move to the center they move the center to the right”. There is a lesson in it for all of us, especially those who, for example, refused to vote for say… Hudak.

  18. As a couple of posters have said, slow but sure. Nine years ago, this small step would have cost Harper his government. Now, he does it during an election. If he gets re-elected, we can expect more slow, incremental change for the better.
Most of us want Harper to go faster, but that would have jeopardized the ability to change in the future – he probably would have been thrown out. This way we get to keep up the improvements – small though they may be.

a retired cop friend informed me that individuals who let their paperwork lapse and wished to reaquire a PAL will no longer be able to “challenge the test.” you’ll have to take the classes all over again like a newbie.
just another way the government makes sheeple jump through hoops. if they can’t prohibit fireams, they’ll make the process as difficult as possible.

I would settle for a castle law or stand your ground law that does not demand I retreat in my own home from armed invaders – but hat’s not how these things work Paul – certainly not in Canada.
The Canadian establishment (power structure) has a long history of removing armed self defense capability from politically undesirable groups – handgun control got its start as a racist move to keep arms out of the hands of blacks, Chinese and “foreign anarchists” (AKA labor activists) – it expanded to a long gun registry in 1941 of all guns and no one of German or Japanese ancestry could buy ammo.
With the dawn of authoritarian socialism in Canada and all it’s social targets – (white Christian males, rural people, families, white privilege etc.) The social engineers for the new leftist order decided that the gun owners of Canada represented the largest portion of all their target groups. The target groups were deemed to be staunch dissenters to the new political order the left was installing (socialist authoritarianism) – they actually fear these resistive target groups being armed because I can only conclude they will make a push at either re-educating us or a pogrom to oppress us. The Chretien/Rock firearms act was a form of a pogrom or political cleansing of the target groups – gun owners were the canary in the coal mine.
The sole purpose of the existing legislation and the enforcement spin put on it by police brass and crown prosecutors and all left wing politicians is to slowly disarm the public one type of gun at a time through confiscation by reclassification and con, and through constant paper crimes and storage crimes which result in confiscations and to discourage gun ownership through onerous regulation and abusive enforcement – such as color of law seizures at every opportunity (like high river).
Harper could have stopped this pogrom dead in its tracks and thrown a massive monkey wrench into the authoritarian socialist agenda by repealing the Chretien/Rock gun law and replacing it with constitutionally/charter compliant gun law – but he didn’t – so the pogrom (run by the left, police and the regulatory administrations) will continue unabated.
“Bill C68 (the Rock gun law) is not so much about fighting crime as it about the pascification of the public” – Sen. Carstairs at a town hall meeting 1992

  21. I am very happy with the change. I have a POL now and was thinking of taking a course so I can acquire some WWII guns that came available due to a death in the family. I take from the article that I no longer have to bother to take a course to upgrade my licence(I would have to leave town to get the course an hour away)
