  1. This is pretty much indistinguishable from satire.
Bias-Free Language Guide claims the word ‘American’ is ‘problematic’
The University of New Hampshire has a “Bias-Free Language Guide” on its website, which “is meant to invite inclusive excellence in [the] campus community.”
The guide defines words such as “homosexual” as “problematic,” offering “Same Gender Loving” as a more inclusive substitute.
The guide clarifies that saying “illegal alien” is also problematic. While “undocumented immigrant” is acceptable, the guide recommends saying “person seeking asylum,” or “refugee,” instead. Even saying “foreigners” is problematic; the preferred term is “international people.”
Using the word “Caucasian” is considered problematic as well, and should be discontinued in favor of “European-American individuals.” The guide also states that the notion of race is “a social construct…that was designed to maintain slavery.”
The guide also discourages the use of “mothering” or “fathering,” so as to “avoid gendering a non-gendered activity.”
Even saying the word “healthy” is problematic, the university says. The “preferred term for people without disabilities,” the university says, is “non-disabled.” Similarly, saying “handicapped” or “physically-challenged” is also problematic. Instead, the university wants people to use the more inclusive “wheelchair user,” or “person who is wheelchair mobile.”
Using the words “rich” or “poor” is also frowned upon. Instead of saying “rich,” the university encourages people to say “person of material wealth.” Rather than saying a person is “poor,” the university encourages its members to substitute “person who lacks advantages that others have” or “low economic status related to a person’s education, occupation and income.”

  6. Ha! Hilarious. It’s true, however, anyone who has spent any time around public service unions has seen this phenomenon plain as day.

  7. Funny thing, going into the 2011 election, I believe the CPC was polling at around 34 or 35% or thereabouts which means that about 66% wanted change then too, ie hoping for a different party to form gov’t. So I’m not sure how this poll is relevant, except to be used by the Media Party to advance one of their favourite narratives: more trouble for PMSH and the CPC.
The election coverage presented by the Media Party is going to be a boon for media critics; a media bias supernova, if you will, destroying the last remaining vestiges of credibility they have left. They are going to cause themselves irreparable damage and only serve to show Canadians they shouldn’t be trusted, that they intend on corrupting our democracy by attempting to influence the way ballots are cast by their misinformation and spin. But when it comes to doing themselves damage, they should know that I, and the others who despise them, are their biggest cheerleaders.

  8. Oh, one other thing. I was watching CBC’s PnP yesterday and noticed a tweet posted on the screen by someone using the handle “CPCdouches”. I guess he/she passed the CBC’s strict submissions guidelines policy for comments, so much so that it was even taken from their web operations and uploaded to their TV broadcast. Oh, and the person behind this twitter acount had a couple of tweets posted. They loved him/her that much. Classy.

  9. Yah! And I remember the Ford/Smitherman polling numbers also. Center of the Unviverse numbers. Then came the next day, election day.
AKA when media jumped the shark.

  11. Toyota plant expansion to get $100 million boost from federal, Ontario governments
TORONTO — The federal and provincial governments have put aside their differences to help expand Toyota’s manufacturing operations in Southern Ontario.
The two governments will provide a total of $100 million toward Toyota’s planned $421-million investment in the automaker’s Cambridge operations.
The Canadian Press has learned the provincial Liberal government will give Toyota a grant of up to $42.1 million, or 10 per cent of the project’s cost.
The federal government will contribute about 14 per cent of the project’s cost in the form of a repayable $58-million loan.
Sources familiar with the announcement say it had originally been planned for next week, but was moved up to Friday because of the expected federal election call this weekend.

“Venezuelan soldiers seized a food distribution center rented by companies including Nestle SA, PepsiCo. Inc and Empresas Polar SA in Caracas as the government looks to boost support ahead of elections.
The companies were given two months to remove equipment and stock at the La Yaguara industrial park, which will be converted to social housing, workers said.”

Energy East pipeline will cost more than $12 billion, TransCanada says
Apparently no permanent jobs will be created though. Plenty of leeway for paralysis by analysis on this. Mulcair would rather do that than get twisted up in it, trapped by his party’s ideology. Others apparently hope it goes away too:
“TransCanada had initially planned to build two export terminals — one in Cacouna, Que., and one in Saint John, N.B. However, TransCanada scrapped the Cacouna plans in April due to concerns over beluga whale habitat. TransCanada is evaluating whether to find another location in Quebec, or just have one in Saint John.”

  14. the lay of the field is exactly the same as last election; except, the NDP have peaked earlier.
This should help the CPC as those on the Right thinking about voting LPC will likely change votes when they realize the choices are the CPC of the Dippers.
I predict a CPC majority with about the same share(relatively speaking) of the seats in the house.
Under the circumstances of a CPC minority; I expect the LPC will be very open to working with the CPC. Either way, history repeats itself.
