The Sound Of Settled Science

Ten years ago I simply parroted what the IPCC told us. One day I started checking the facts and data – first I started with a sense of doubt but then I became outraged when I discovered that much of what the IPCC and the media were telling us was sheer nonsense and was not even supported by any scientific facts and measurements. To this day I still feel shame that as a scientist I made presentations of their science without first checking it. The CO2-climate hysteria in Germany is propagated by people who are in it for lots of money, attention and power.”

Seriously, Mr. Scientist…. it didn’t register ANY twinges of “what the heck are they talking about, and perhaps I should do a little digging”, 10 years ago, especially when a minority said “hold on, what?”
I know I’m not the only one, but haven’t most people gotten to the point where if a well crafted campaign for or against something happens, seemingly suddenly, ( whether you do not agree, and especially IF you do and it’s suddenly a thing.) you do not automatically suspect a propaganda exercise being played on you?
A couple of years ago “salt is horrible for you” was suddenly in every newspaper, etc… for a couple of months. Did that not ring the BS meter like a carillon? ( I tend to agree with that, but the sudden carpet bombing made me very very suspicious.)

  2. The UN and IPCC traveling all around the world in their Gulf steams and leer jets driven to fancy meeting rooms in gas guzzling 11 mpg limos and dictaing to us all SCREW THEM

  3. “…Sea Level is calculated…”
Sciency type question: how is it measured? Sit on a beach and watch the waves roll in. Sit on a ship and watch the waves in the ocean. How do you average all of this out, when it can vary by METERS, and definatively say the levels have changed a couple centimeters, with no margin of error?
So how can this be used as a marker of impending doom? But ask this kind of question, and you are an evil denier.

  4. Fred, it’s done with tide gauges. There’s nothing wrong with this in principle. Average tidal height records go back centuries. Except that what the IPCC did was select those tide gauges located near large harbours like Hong Kong. All harbours subside because of urban development and pumping out ground water. Using selected gauges showed a much larger apparent increase.
As to your earlier comment, this is not surprising. In the academic community there’s a tendency, for the most part a good one, to take people at their word. If they claim to have done the research, you accept that statement. As has been noted here many times, this is what the peer review process is supposed to do. I did too at one point many years ago. Then something happens. Something is claimed which just sounds wrong. And when you look into it, you discover that the supporting data doesn’t support it at all, or it’s an outright statistical fabrication aka Mannian statistics. Now intrigued, you start looking at other things and discover they are pretty stinky as well.
Then, to compound it all, you discover that there’s a relatively small group reviewing each other’s papers and handing out free passes, thus completely corrupting peer review.
That’s the Excelsior Moment when you finally say, “All of this is pure crud!”

But that assumes that the bedrock(continental drift) reference has not changed. The Eastern seaboard (USA) was subjected to a relative measurement of Continental drift VS water levels and found that the “Simple” measurements were invalid. “The Shore has Moved”
The Newfoundlander that marks his fishing spot with an X on the side of his boat has the same problem.

Its all in there about what a pile of garbage the IPCC reports are.

  8. That “petition” is even more out of date than the names I posted.

Wow, what an arrogant and defensive asshole Michael H. Anderson. When you actually have something to bring to the conversation do drop in again. Until then, don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

  9. Ed, it may be three years old but it still reflects sanity and conditions have not changed.
