Pony Up, Khadr

A U.S. judge has granted $134.2 million (U.S.) in damages to the widow of an American soldier killed in Afghanistan and another soldier partially blinded by a hand grenade in their lawsuit against former Guantanamo Bay prisoner Omar Khadr.

  1. Presumably Khadr has no money. But if he files suit (and wins) against the Canadian Government for wrongful imprisonment or whatever the lie du jour is, I guess Chris Speer’s widow will get the lolly. Too bad little Omar’s enablers and cheerleaders here in Canada can’t be stuck with the bill.

  2. Perhaps all of Omar’s friends can ‘crowd fund ‘ for him. I expect Ms. May will be the first to donate part of her salary.

  3. Since Khadr’s lawyer vouched for him perhaps Sgt. Speer’s widow can get their mansion as compensation. Would serve the snake right for his disgusting actions of defending a terrorist.

  4. I guess that means no nipping across the border for some cheap cheese and milk. Looks like we’re stuck with him. Remind me again why we wanted him back ?

  5. Fat chance of that. Too many MSM types and leftist political party leaders rooting for him.

  6. Has nothing to do with MSM types and leftist political party leaders. Has to do with jurisprudence. Yes, the judgement CAN be enforced in Canada.

  7. So, if the Supremes here decide to favour Omar Khadr’s lawsuit against the Canadian government, and award him the $6 million dollars, minus then his lawyer’s percentage.
The rest would go to Sgt. Speers widow.
The wounded Canadian taxpayer will be going “W.T.F.”
Wide open immigration policy has consequences, actually into the billions.
Pay attention now or pay later!

  8. Yes. There are specific rules in regard to the enforcement of judgements between the U.S. and Canada. Not up to the whims of some crackpot Federal Court judge.

  9. Well, as a Canadian taxpayer, I would much rather see any money Khadr MIGHT win in a lawsuit go to the victims of his terrorist acts than into the pockets of “people” like Khadr and his dirtball lawyers. Actually, I would have much rather that the U.S. had spent another 50 cents on the battlefield and offed this little creep and saved everyone time and money.

  10. The 50 cents would have been money well spent.
Regarding your post @ 1:28 AM, I hope that you are right, but I have serious doubts as our judges have become too politicized.

  11. That punk ass lawyer Dennis Edney of Khadr didn’t even bother to show up in court to defend little Khadr.

  12. How long is kid Khadr going to be staying with his lawyer before he goes on welfare? Until Edney has his case ready to sue us for a few million? One would assume he’d want to get going on it, Khadr is not exactly employable, well, perhaps the Liberals or NDP or even the CBC would give him work. Then Lizzy May is a fan,she thinks Khadr has more effin class than the entire effin Cabinet in her in vino moment.

  13. I notice Torstar mentioned his radical father, but not how his radical father ended up back in Canada after his initial terrorist murders.

  14. “How long is kid Khadr going to be staying with his lawyer before he goes on welfare?”
Maybe he could just stay with Elizabeth May? She seems to be a big fan.

  15. “…Khadr’s guilty plea to five war crimes before a widely maligned U.S. military commission in Guantanamo Bay…”
They just can’t resist putting a spin on everything.

  16. The Supreme Court has their nose firmly planted up Khadr’s butt. They’ve already invested too much credibility giving irrational judgements in his favour. Good luck on them letting the US judgement be enforced in Canada.

  17. Taxpayers are ALWAYS the ones on the hook, but at least this goes some way towards ensuring Khadr will not get to enjoy the settlement ruling against the Canadian government.
Take the money we supposedly owe him and send it directly to the Speers family. “What? We’re respecting a court ruling. You’ve been constantly accusing us of ignoring court rulings, you want us to ignore this one? Make up your mind.”

  18. Anybody out there care to guess how many millions per day go for welfare on the immigration hoardes comming from the middle east ?
Biggest percentage are probably unemployable anytime in the near future!

  19. I viewed the impassioned statements of Scottish born lawyer Dennis Edney of behalf of Khadr. I wondered about the implications of having a strange person in one’s house. I had lived in four residences in England as a lonely single man of Khadr’s age.

It was probably me, but as time wore on, things soured. I left or was given the boot. Usually the lady of the house seemed to attribute some of her problems to having a boarder.

Of course this man Khadr might be the perfect boarder. I remember the attribute of a “perfect boarder” in England by various land lords/ladies. Seemed it was a zombie like existence, not doing anything at all.

One is inclined to wonder what kind of a fix Mr Edney would be in if Khadr did not fit in?

  20. If Kadr does not fit in because it is against his religion and mores to do the dishes, clean and maintain his part of the house, this being women’s work, and is required to move out. Then Edney must be responsible for maintaining him having set the precedent by having him in his house. Kadr’s expenses are Edney’s responsibility.

  21. Some Edmonton types like CHED 630 should check if he is on welfare or other tax payer largess
