  1. Finally. Politicians subsidizing themselves with our money is just wrong. Being “state funded” detaches them from the voters, as does proportional representation.
Being required to ask the populace for donations is a much better check on the political class, as is the ability to “kick the bums out” with first past the post.

  2. From the Mop and Pail article:
All three parties traditionally have also received government subsidies based on how many votes they received in the previous election
Well, only traditional from the Chretien era; introduced by the Liberals who were not being able to raise sufficient money as they were unpopular. Another creative Liberal funding scheme was Adscam.

  3. None of you LIVs get it. Political wh*res ALL live of our tax bucks. Wake up your two brain cells.

  4. YES! I am constantly dunned by political Parties asking for donations, reminding me that I can claim 75% of the donation as a tax write-off.
This is one tiny step in reducing the political types unearned taxpayer money, it will be especially gratifying to see the Green party subsidy end.

  5. Should oil prices drop to $!4.00 per barrel in Canada…. Stockwell Day would know how to deal with those numbers.
He fixed Alberta’s finances decades ago at those numbers.
    Good on Ya Stockwell!

  6. With what the Liebels stole in the ’90’s being taken from the taxpayers tit will mean very little. Brown bags really don’t cost much.

  7. Love the comments on the G&M story. The liberal/socialist fools are panicking as they realize their idol is a fool.
The continued HDS of the left amuses me. They are almost at the point of political obscurity (particularly the far left nut-jobs) and it looks good on them. If oil prices stay relatively low and gas prices stay low the Conservatives will gain even more support despite what is sure to be story after story in the MSM about the crisis that will hit us if the prices stay low.
The MSM will shift in to high gear in early spring as they formulate their plan to assist in what they hope will be a Liberal victory. Too bad for them that most real Canadians are figuring out that the ‘Idol’ is an empty suit just like Obama. Even my 21 year old son realizes how stupid Trudeau’s comments are.

  8. How about waking up YOUR two brain cells to know the difference between “of” and “off”.

  9. There have been a number of stories in the msm lately about the huge “surge” in donations to the Liberal party, usually with glowing references to the obvious influence of their Dear Leader. Like so many media stories – high on image, low in facts. So when does the msm start gushing about the obvious leadership qualities of PMSH, given that his party’s funds are far healthier than the libs?

  10. Like that old joke of about a bus load of lawyers going into shark infested waters..
    It’s a good start.
Politicians are actors, they volunteered to play the parts, those roles the theatre of civilization requires to convince the weak-minded that it exists and playing by the RULES is a shared benefit.
The dumb destroyers, who fail to play their roles as required, do provide great theatre, up to the point the crowd dumps them.
Imagine Pretty Vacant attempting the role of Prime Minister of Canada..
This child has yet to play the role of adult, of gainfully employed citizen or even as elected member of parliament .
He plays at performing these roles, but has yet to master adult speech, Ah, Ah ,ahhhh.
I believe the voting public has been punishing the Libtards for many elections now, two years from the election, right up to its eve;”Oh yes we will vote Liberal”
    Then at the polls; Yank!
I suspect many older voters go from the polling booth snickering.
Sure you can drive us to the polls , but we still vote our way.
However as Just-In implodes, faster than Iggy or Stephan, I do wonder if the back room boys cut a deal.
Ever happy to make Libtard heads explode, it goes like this; Rather than jail and return of every dollar stolen in Adscam, the Liberal Party of Canada will offer the voters ever more idiotic and pathetic persons to vote for.
Or is this Spawn of Trudeau retread nonsense actually the Liberal Voters Choice?

  11. But they get to take less, to directly fund their electioneering and HQ staff. Some of the cookies have been removed from the jar.

  12. “Some of the cookies have been removed from the jar”
True, but 60% of “election expenses” will still be reimbursed by the taxpayer, and the obscenely generous political tax credit will still be underwritten by the taxpayer. These would be reasonable initiatives when the notion of the “citizen legislator” still existed but now that we have an elite class of professional politicians, the idea of funding them by coercing the taxpayer is questionable.
Term limits might help to restore the concept of average citizens running for office and hence deserving some financial indemnity for losses incurred by volunteering for civic duty.
    Naïve?

  13. Justtinethinkin, do you have pretty hair like the chosen one????
It ain’t just the pols who are welfare wh*res, anyone who does not have a “productive” job, or one that supports production, lives off others sweat and labour.

  14. On Nov. 30th, I signed onto the Liberal website, in order to ‘help’ a survey.
In the month since, I have received 34 emails from the party (including 3 per day for the past 3 days) begging me to donate. All messages have emphasized how little my actual cost would be after the tax credit.
They have offered me mittens, a day with them on the campaign trail and a flight in the campaign jet.
They even dug up Paul Martin to tell me about ‘Trust’ and Jean Cretien to preach about ‘Courage’.
The “Surge” of which they speak may in fact have occurred, but it was on the end of a battering ram…

  15. As Maggie Thatcher said, socialism only works until you run out of other peoples money, and the socialist parties are about to be cut off from other peoples money. They and their supporters are ideologically opposed to paying their own way. They don’t like it a bit.

  16. I heartily look forward to the government returning that tax money to Canadians starting in just a few hours. Right, Mr. Prime Minister?

  17. It’s interesting that the word “traditionally” is mis-applied here too. For some time it has been used to describe Canadian “peacekeeping”, which in reality has only been around since Lester Pearson or thereabouts. Prior to that, Canada was warrior nation all the way. Sometimes you have to pick sides.
It should be clear that “traditional” is being deliberately misused to deceive Canadians into thinking that what the left favours has always been the norm, and any change is a slap at “tradition”.
