  1. Try following Rex Murphy’s good advice and DO NOT use the terrorists name, or any cutsie variations. Don’t show the respect of naming.

  2. Peter O’Donnell, you’ve reminded me of something one of my friends told me many years ago when they were exploring Sufism. They were taught that Islam regarded Christ as a true prophet, but regarded him as the prophet who blasphemed, because instead of saying, “I speak the truth”, he said, “I AM the truth”. They regard God as entirely beyond our understanding and don’t accept that we can have a personal relationship with Him, such as Christ offers.
Joe, I believe you’re right that the presence of demons is not mental illness, but I suspect the two are connected. There’s that remarkable passage in Scripture where Jesus says, “I saw Satan fall from heaven as a bolt of lightning. When you go in My name, you need fear no evil. If you then walk among snakes and scorpions, why then, you shall crush them.” The idea seems to be that if you are living righteously and following God’s will, you will see demons for what they are and they are no threat to you. The corollary is that the farther from a godly life you go, the more dangerous demons become to you. It would make sense that the mentally ill are by that very fact more vulnerable to demons, and that the demons know this and seek out the mentally ill.
