  1. Is there no consideration to total power use? If you have a vacuum that uses 20% less power but needs to be used twice as long, overall power use is higher.

  2. Thank goodness in Canada our government didn’t do something equally stupid like ban 100W incandescent light bulbs….oh wait….

  3. One more reason not to ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever travel to Europe.

  4. Not to worry. Vacuum manufacturers will be able to use the slogan, “Our vacuums don’t suck!” and be absolutely truthful.

  5. Now that is a great comment. LOL!
This is what you get when the lunatics run the asylum.

  6. Does anyone honestly believe that any government willing to ban incandescent light bulbs for ‘energy inefficiency’ (i.e., Canada and the U.S.) won’t eventually pass their own version of this vacuum ban?
Mock European bureaucrats now, but I guarantee you this will be tried here sooner or later. Probably sooner.
It’s a shame there are no new worlds left to flee to and found a country that’s actually, y’know, free.

  7. What classic Euro thinker of the glorious enlightenment would have ever dreamt that the great culture which spawned the magna carta, Dante, Blackstone, Rembrandt, Motzart, Beethoven, Brewing and Haught Cuizine – would end not in the din of disorganized turmoil, but buried under a mandated mountain of household dust. Oh the injustice of fate!

  8. “This will have to be halved within the next three years, as the limit of 1,600 watts will be reduced to just 900 watts from September 2017.”
By 2020 carpets will be banned.

  9. Why didn’t they just ban dust and dirt? Then no vacuum cleaners would be needed! What idiots…

  10. I’m going to make my fortune as an appliance smuggler. Regulations for microwave ovens and blenders can’t be far behind.
BTW I’m surprised the name “Salad Shooter” hasn’t been banned yet.

  11. Should be the end of wall to wall carpeting, kinda hard to take them up, hang them on a fence and beat the dirt out of them.
Fun times ahead, so much blowing in the wind as the big bladed monstrosities whump and drone and skivvies hang to dry on lines between two poles.

  12. Technical point of order: since European electrical grids run at 220V, they can run 2000+ Watt vacuum cleaners. We in N.A. can’t go much beyond 1600W anyway (other than central vacs on dedicated circuits) without tripping circuit breakers.
Still.. progressives will likely try to kick us down to

  13. My comment got cut off. I guess the “less than” sign trips something in the site’s code?
My final paragraph should read “Still.. progressives will likely try to kick us down to less than 1000W sooner or later. It’s the kind of feel-good, ultimately stupid thing that Trudeau will be apt to do after he (groans) becomes (gags) Prime Minister (sobs) next year (wail of despair, reaches for the whiskey bottle).”

  14. ya know….
1600W – about the same power as the average Hair dryer….
so now when the power levels go down to 900W…whats to stop them from mandating ANYTHING that uses more than a 1000W..??
    MicroWaves
    Stoves
..and I’m sure a great may other things.
    Total Madness.
    NOTHING

  15. We are witnessing the Total Erosion of DEMOCRACY planet wide….with rules and regulations instituted by those that are not elected and as such can rule by decree. The beginning of tyranny…witness the US and the overreaching insanity of their many different Departments: Homeland Sec, EPA, IRS, Border Patrol working inland 150 miles with an open border in the south, Fish and Wildlife with Bagpipes for Christs sake..?? and best of all, the Militarization of North America’s Police forces.
Is there some correlation here with gun laws and Gun restrictions..?? I sure believe so…pretty easy to rollover an unarmed citizenry when you are in an armoured car.
…time to stock up on weaponry folks, we will need it sooner than later.

  16. The Greenies have just stepped off the edge of acceptance. I always wondered why automatic dishwashers and automatic laundry equipment never seemed to really be on the “must change” agenda. When I suggested such a change could happened with “knowledgeable” women the response was always; “there is less water used”.
    My feeling is the whole Greenies planning would have gone out the window if the convenience appliances were attacked. Cheers;

  17. Just replace the vacuum with something else more powerful that has a vacuum attachment…a George Jetson Robotic Maid for instance. See a need, fill a need. Gov’t will always build their Maginot lines but innovation will always find ways around them. 😀

  18. Vacuum cleaner motors produce heat when running. Simple solution here – just rename it as a multifunction ultra portable space heater.

I believe that the US Fish and Wildlife has bagpipes because of the treaty over the ivory trade; elephant, walrus, narwhal etc. I would be cautious of traveling there with not only bagpipes but any antique jewelery/objects that used ivory.
