No, it’s a typical day in Upper Canada.

  3. Are educated humans becoming more STUPID? IQ scores are decreasing – and some experts argue it’s because humans have reached their intellectual peak
IQs have largely increased since the 1930s thanks to better living conditions and education – a trend known as the Flynn effect
But IQ test results suggest people in the UK, Denmark and Australia have become less intelligent in the past decade
Opinion is divided as to whether the downwards trend is long-term
Some studies have shown the average IQ of Westerners has plunged 10 points or more since Victorian times and others claim it will keep decreasing
But other experts argue that even if we are becoming more stupid, better healthcare and technology means the ‘problem’ will regulate itself

  4. This will make the Darwin Awards easier to judge.
Connected wirelessly to a watch-sized GPS sensor worn by athletes – on their arms or helmets – the camera on board the autonomous drone keeps a constant eye on the users. They follow the athlete at a safe distance but manage to capture all the exciting action – much like a personal cameraman.

“Delegates to the organization’s general council decided Tuesday that the CMA now ‘supports the right of all physicians, within the bounds of existing legislation, to follow their conscience when deciding whether to provide medical aid in dying.'”
What about birth control? Can physicians follow their conscience on that too?
Personally I think there’s nothing wrong with birth control, in fact it’s a huge advance for mankind. But some religious folks may disagree, which is their right. And no one should be denied the opportunity to practice medicine because they won’t prescribe it.

    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-debate/editorials/lac-megantic-how-transport-canada-failed-to-crack-down/article20128275/
“Was the federal regulator asleep at the switch? No. On the contrary, it appears to have watched the litany of regulatory violations passing it by. It took careful note of them. It catalogued their occurrences. And then, eyes wide open, it often declined to pull the switch that could have brought the danger to a halt.”
“Transport Canada can’t just set regulations. It must ensure companies abide by them.”
Maybe the regulators had read Cooper vs. Hobart, a 2001 judgment by the Supreme Court of Canada, in which it was decided that regulators cannot be held responsible for their actions, whether through error, laziness or incompetence.
A 2008 judgment, St. Lawrence Cement, held that companies can be held responsible for their actions (in this case, pollution) even if they conform to regulation.
The combined effect of these rulings is that regulations are unnecessary and worthless. Fire the bureaucrats! A law against criminal negligence by industry should suffice. I would think the Lac Megantic tragedy represents criminal negligence if anything does.
This will lead to more “judge-made law”, which conservatives sometimes express a distaste for. But c’est la vie.

    http://www.torontosun.com/2014/08/20/ontario-hospitals-urged-to-stop-pursuing-medical-tourists
“Hospitals should be ordered to stop pursuing ‘medical tourists’ while Ontarians join wait lists for health-care services, a coalition says in an open letter to Health Minister Eric Hoskins.”
But the complainants apparently don’t object to Ontarians being bumped onto waiting lists by freebie health care such as for a bunch of kids from Gaza.
The key concept of capitalism is trade of values for mutual profit. The left likes to make the concept of trade look unseemly while favouring freebies in the guise of alleged “humanitarianism”. That’s what’s going on here – a collateral attack on capitalism.
One person involved in this nonsense is Doris Grinspun, of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario, who is known for writing strident letters to the editor of various newspapers taking an extreme left position on any health care issue.

“A charity stunt that has grown into a social media phenomenon went terribly wrong for four Kentucky firefighters when a fire truck’s ladder got too close to a power line after they dumped water on college students who were taking part in an “ice bucket challenge.”
Campbellsville Police Chief Tim Hazlette said the power line was never touched Thursday morning, but it carried such a high voltage that it was able to energize the ladder truck, shocking the firefighters.”

“Corey Griffin, 27, died in a Nantucket diving accident, hours after he raised $100,000 for a Lou Gehrig’s disease charity in honor of his friend who inspired the ice-bucket challenge sensation.
Nantucket Police tell the Boston Globe that Griffin dove into the water from the “Juice Guys” building at around 2 a.m. Saturday. An off-duty lifeguard was nearby and recovered Griffin, who was pronounced dead at a hospital.

  11. Unions will be the death knell for this country if they are not called to heel. The Civil Service union is an enemy of the Harper government from day one, now they’re taking to the streets telling people how to vote, interference in the democratic process big time.
We know how it turned out for Ontario, we know the mess that created, more people will lose jobs, the Ontario economy is tanking by the hour, and the popcorn king look alike, Wynne, is still spending. How low can we go before idiots in the unions realize the money well is drying up, no new industry, no money to pay the high wage demands of unions which will mean recession, a gentle word for depression for many smart ass buffoons protesting in the streets who richly deserve to live lean.
