According to reporting from Reuters, on March 30, 2026, General Motors’ Detroit-based electric vehicle plant Factory Zero announced an extension of its production halt until April 13, with the plant manager citing aligning with “market dynamics” and initiating temporary layoffs for approximately 1,300 workers. Furthermore, in December 2025, Ford Motor Company announced a USD 19.5 billion capital impairment charge related to its electric vehicle operations and cut roughly 1,600 jobs at its BlueOval SK battery plant in Kentucky. Ford simultaneously announced it would cease production of the all-electric F-150 Lightning and abandon its production plans for the next-generation T3 electric pickup and electric vans. Media reports also indicate that Magna’s factory in St. Clair, Michigan, a supplier of EV components to General Motors, now sits nearly vacant; as the automotive industry recalibrates its electric vehicle investments, the plant has suffered a significant blow and is essentially in a state of shutdown or large-scale dormancy.
What once was heralded as the “hope for revival” of the American automotive industry is now facing a rapid decline.

Having worked for General Motors for many years, it and the othe two majors: Ford and Dodge/RAM/Jeep never asked their dealers if there was demand for these products.
I can tell you that a few years ago 50% of the Buick dealers in the US told GM they wanted no part of Buick’s electrification effort and are now no longer Buick dealers. I worked at one Buick dealer when that happened.
Mary Barra, CEO of GM for the last 13 years never listened to the dealers or the customers but just hung around with her Democrat politican friends and told them what they wanted to hear and how great electric cars were and how much money she was throwing down the toilet. The dealers said their customers wanted hybrids like Toyota. She refused to listen – 100% Electric!!!
She is one stubborn, incredibly ignorant woman. She is still CEO and GM is still making all their money on SUV’s and pick up trucks and she hates that. GM’s Board of Directors should all be terminated. They picked her and keep her as CEO.
Typical of a totally useless incompetent DEI hire.
Government Motors. Obama bailed out their bloated, unfunded UNIONista pensions. So it’s no wonder why a DEI CEO wasn’t following Obama’s “green” orders. But the good news is that the American taxpayer has funded your pension!
Too big to fail the EV Market. As soon as Gavin Newsom is President … he will make the US taxpayer to bail out the EV market, by FORCING all automobiles to be electrified. “Your filthy, dirty, ICE automobile will no longer belch forever chemicals into the atmosphere … causing cancer and death wherever you drive.” [sic]
Otherwise known as “Government help”.
The corruption is built right in.
The “Auto Industry” is a joke.
Start with mandated performance, fuel efficiency and so called zero emissions..government imposed beliefs..
Screw the customer.
And an industry dies.
Government help at its finest.
And the parasitic overload will not stop “helping”.
They know, better than all of us who make real things, how things must be.
There is no “reasoning” with our rules and regulators bunch, nothing of what they know, so absolutely, is true.
Ideologues and parasites cannot be reached by facts, logic nor reason.
It is how the left works. Steal from taxpayers. Subsidize what no one wants. Lie about how popular it is. Blame someone else. Learn nothing. Do it again.
“ Factory Zero “. LOL
Factory Zero is making no cars. Now that is a zero emissions story 🙂

The US government told their automakers to stop manufacturing the vehicles that 92% of the public wanted and start making vehicles that only 8% wanted. What could go wrong?
(globally the numbers are 80/20, but the point remains the same…)
Many times CEO’s have no clue. As in this case, EV’s are essentially mandated and the automakers go along with it, fearing reprisal.
GM is doing something unexpected. They shuttered to electric delivery van plant earlier this year (no sales) and today announced large investment in what they now call ‘GM Propulsion’ in St Catharines. A multi-million dollar V-8 plant. Didn’t they tell us V-8’s were dead, just like V-12 engines?
“As in this case, EV’s are essentially mandated and the automakers go along with it, fearing reprisal.”
That’s true, but they shouldn’t have gone along with what they knew to be the potential end of their companies. Governments come and go, and multi-billion dollar industries like car companies don’t need to fear them as long as supply and demand is on their side.
If Al Gore is right GM should be looking into snowmobiles.
Mr. Garrison … can we now get rid of all the e-bikes that are terrorizing drivers and pedestrians everywhere? Please.
