1. And the most liked comments at the Ceeb are straight at the Sask party. It takes a fair way down the page before someone comments on mandatory compliance, and even then it’s not the ringing condemnation of communism that one should expect. Then again, it is the CBC accepting comments, so it’s not like there’s a lot of critical thinkers (or free enterprisers) there.

2. We have a “SMART METER” INSTALLED ON OUR HOME HERE IN WOODSTOCK ONTARIO…… the question now is whether I should take my TAYLOR MADE DRIVER, OR MY 9 IRON or MY PUTTER,TO THE @#CKING “SMART METER”….. on the side of my home?

4. Yes, the comments are quite amusing and predictable. They seem to be submitted by the usual grumpy socialist sore losers who just can’t get over the fact that their beloved NDP are gone, probably for a long, long time. Throw a few wannabe electrical engineers into the mix and it makes for some entertaining reading.

6. Just wait until the rates are time based. That’s the purpose of these things. They always say it’s not about that and they won’t implement time based rates but they always do.

7. I wonder if SaskPower will ask themselves if it was CSA approved. I’m hoping they went through the process. Now they can ask to see the testing procedures and documentation so that their own electrical engineers can double-check their work, to see what went wrong. Then the can of worms will be opened. CSA will be sued and hopefully the media will start to take some interest.

8. How much is “sorry” worth in dollars and cents?
   The stupid meters are meant to save water, when you do save water their revenue goes down and the price goes up. In Ontario we at least don’t need to water our lawns taken over by weeds we are not allowed to kill with harmless herbicides. Flush toilets may become a luxury soon as we go back to the era of outhouses and a once a week bath. The Green mad fools are the new Hippies, that would be fine with them, the smellier the better.

11. I believe that in Ontario with Hydro One, this is already the case.

12. Saskatchewan power has made the wise & prudent decision, the smart meter has “active” components. Active components have a calculated “load” & an associated risk of failure. Why risk any fire? Some things are just not worth doing.
    The old meters are “passive” no loading. They just use a current loop (like an electricians clamp) to “inductively” measure the current flow in each leg. NO FIRE RISK
    The real question is why would anyone RISK a House fire for reasons of insignificant rational. The current usage data does what & How & Why? A whole lot of wobbly rational when more robust technology may be available away from the house, at the transformer.

13. SaskPower does not have to use CSA approved equipment. The meter’s may be CSA approved, but they can use unapproved equipment it they choose. Their equipment is not subject to electrical inspections like John Q Public.
    Smart meters are being used in many other places, so I’m not sure why these ones are problematic. Probably a case of you get what you pay for.

14. I found the same info as JJJ. Although I am by no means certain, it is my understanding that smart meters do not need to be certified because they are not “consumer” products…they are government utility products. Because smart meters were meant to be owned, installed,maintained and read by Sask Power they do not fall into a category of electronic products that need to be CSA certified. Go finger.
