We Care So Very Much

Now do as we say:

The MP in question, Sarah Wallaston, “formerly a doctor and teacher,” is now hoping to dictate your default portion size. The state, says Ms Wallaston, has “a duty to intervene” by telling you what it is you “don’t need” when buying drinks and snacks at the local cinema. Because you simply can’t be trusted near those sweet and shiny objects. At which point, I’m reminded of the Guardian‘s Jill Filipovic, who also struggles with the concept of personal liberty and, specifically, with why “every socially conscious person” doesn’t agree with her. Being “socially conscious,” so defined, and therefore better than us, doesn’t seem to entail any reservation about spending, or indeed wasting, other people’s earnings on imposing state-dictated portion sizes. Or any reservation about embracing a condescending relationship with those of whom one is supposedly being conscious. Quite the opposite, in fact.

  1. Apparently, pace P. J. O’Rourke, there is no longer any difference between having a government and having a mom.

  2. Dr Wallaston, as she says herself, got involved in politics at the suggestion of “Conservative” leader, David Cameron, who seems intent on challenging Edward Heath as the most useless Tory leader of the past two centuries. She is a walking billboard for the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP).

  3. This is just a symptom of the psychopathy of the political elite and their gate keepers in the socialist administrative cliques – such as the health care clique.
The Nanny state will always become a prison system. It will happen sooner than later if you allow these mad bastards and quacks to continue thinking they have some claim on your lives – right to the point of them dictating your diet and controlling your food supply – is there any more blatant sign they think of you as cattle?
Whenever I hear some prog trog pontificating that free will in personal choice be replaced with state dictums, I remind them how deeply sinister and depraved such sentiments are. They, are not your god or your keeper, they are a servant not a master! This “we are the lords of life and death” mindset is particularly prevalent in the medical community of a socialist state – they really do think they have the right to intervene in your life. Probably the most disgusting arrogance and social presumption I have ever been exposed to came from health care professionals making unsupportable presumptions about patients and getting other state actors involved in their personal/private affairs, then calling this blatant violation of privacy “ethical intervention”.
The idea of controlling the raw protein (meat) in a slave’s diet in order to make them docile and subservient is as old as aristocracy and the medial profession itself. I find it ludicrous a guild of practitioners who have murdered millions by prescribing poisons, abortions and other Frankenstein operations and who sit on death panels deciding who gets treatment and who dies (as one in 2 under their care, die of the plague of cancer which doesn’t seem to pique their curiosity), would ever summon the humanity to be motivated by moral qualms about our diets.
The alchemist cult of Caduceus (medical quacks) have plagued us with bad science and Frankenstein- like treatments since the dark ages – and much of that arrogant acceptance of unsound practice (like blood letting with leeches, or the curative properties of mercury, or urine therapy or heroine cough syrup for babies,or curing mental illness by cutting holes in the skull or sticking ice picks in the frontal lobes or thalidomide),remains today in a modern form (the gross over-prescription of psycho active drugs) – seriously, these people are in no position to tell us what is best for our health after their long history of abject failure and destruction.

  4. People are stupid, Mr. Thompson. They must be controlled.
Right down to their portion sizes at the movies. The poor dears don’t know any better.

  5. Apparently a jumped up bossy service brat quickly shoehorned
into a caught corrupt bounced Tory’s failed sinecure for life.
Wiki fails to mention where this cretin earned her Doctor of
Fascism degree with an honours in soup nazism and nutrition.

  6. But she’s “pro-choice” I’m sure because the state should have no say in whether or not you kill your baby.

  7. No problem, I’ll just buy two. For every government created obstruction there is a way around.

  8. Conservatives, as a political group, need an orthodoxy in principles standard which precludes people of her ilk from joining the party, never mind being a party candidate for MP.
Either this woman is in the wrong party or British conservative voters need a new party to vote for.

  9. This to me is the old chicken and egg argument. If the busybodies hadn’t been stopping kids from playing outside and parents plunking their kids in front of the latest cartoon or single shooter game. If teachers hadn’t enacted the no play at recess and everyone’s a winner.
Then maybe obesity wouldn’t be combated with dietary legislation. We still put stairs in tall buildings, for what? Who uses the stairs. We have disabled placards being abused and people park in handicapped spaces because they are too lazy to walk an extra 30′.

  10. It is a sad state of affairs of political parties moving to the left when a Conservative MP advocates Fascist/Communist policies. She would be much more suited to the British Workers Party.
Oz, there is another party for British voters to support and that is UKIP.

  11. I checked her out , I was surprised that she wasn’t some gianormus oink an axehandle wide across the backside , but she wasn’t.

  12. I am not one to agree to bannings, but something has to be done about fat people. They are firstly, a blight on the general scenery. Obese people are going to have many more medical issues than normal sized people. That strains the medicare budget. They consume too much of everything and they are generally ugly. Faces and bodies stretched so far out of proportion that you can barely tell what they are supposed to look like. Hell is sitting next to an obese person on an airplane. And then they get these gigantic tattoos all over to further make themselves unattractive.
Okay, that said …. I suggest we do what we did to smokers … shun them and charge them much more for their fat foods, charge them more for their health care. Make being obese undesirable enough that event our national gluttons would have some incentive to cut it all back and get healthy. Make it socially unacceptable to be fat.
I am so glad I grew up in the 50, – 60s … most people were normal sized … the girls looked like girls rather than tattooed blobs of protoplasm waddling from the ice-cream stand to the burger stand all day long, then staggering home to whatever is in the fridge. Watch the movie “Woodstock” … you will see a half a million young Americans and Canadians going to a rock concert and you are hard pressed to see any fat people.
Obesity is not a disease it is a the sin of gluttony. There is a reason why for thousands of years people have railed against obesity and even made it a sin. It is destructive behavior and an impediment to happiness. Fat people pretend to be jolly and Santa ain’t real.
Start looking … you will be astonished at how fat Canada actually is.
I was downtown Nanaimo yesterday and was completely disgusted. At least half of all the adults downtown and on the water front for the famous Bathtub race week-end were obese. However, much of the other half looked out of shape and flabby. When you occasionally see a good looking, nicely dressed normal sized person … you stare. Is that normal?

  13. We should climb on board with this nanny stateing… After all.. Nobody needs a masters in womyns studies. Nobody needs an abortion usually. Nobody needs more than 1 pair of shoes.. Etc.

  14. Of course being the super being she imagines herself, she herself will be free of any restrictions to her holy self. You typical Pharisee that Jesus warned lay burdens on others they themselves would never bare.
Her law is above all others , subject to her mood.
Folks like this look at us as just cattle that is their yoke to look after for tax draft animals to the slaughter.
Kind of like the white man’s burden , only now its the enlightened socialist duty to tell us how to live. Individuals are of course unless they are of her ilk not smart enough to exist without her divine self righteousness with supernatural infallibility.

  15. Your kidding right?
You do realise this banning till the world is perfect crap doesn’t stop until people push back?
I’ll take second hand smoke, and fat in my food over a–ho–s with good intentions, and lots of “education”.

  16. ” something has to be done about fat people”
Without doubt that is probably the most ignorant, elitist sanctimony I have seen posted to SD outside the fascist trolls who spew their venom here the odd time.
Had you ever considered that many cases of over weight are the result of medial and metabolic issues –> As for your sacred soviet health-fair system, it was unsustainable long before fat people came along.

  17. One value: status.
    One goal: power.
One path: conspicuous display of self-congratulation.
