Now is the time at SDA when we juxtapose!
Howard Dean, 2003: Howard Dean, the former Vermont governor running for president, has told an audience in New Hampshire that the United States “won’t always have the strongest military,” an assertion that drew a strong rebuke today from [Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts].
China, 2003; The People’s Republic of China now believes it can successfully prevent the United States from intervening in the event of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan or some other military assault by Beijing.

You mean China, 2014. Kate, please fix.
Well, we have seen this coming for quite some time. Too many people sucking on the public teat. Bread and circuses. Think Rome, barbarians without and barbarians within.
Closer to home, Howard Dean was keynote speaker for the Liberal Party of Canada the year they selected Stephane Dion and his dog Kyoto to unseat Mr. Harper and the CPC.
Overconfidence is also a weakness. With Obama as Commander in Chief it doesn’t matter how great a deterrent is if it’s never used. There is no leadership in the USA . I don’t doubt the Subs would be used to protect the homeland but have absolutely no confidence they would be used to protect a third party as long as Obama is in charge.
“I don’t doubt the Subs would be used to protect the homeland”
I wouldn’t assume anything with this *ss in the White House.
Oh come on, Valery Jarret ain’t that bad!
Stephane Dion and his dog Kyoto
Priceless. Well done, Maikeru!
The Chicoms just have to call in their 3 trillion dollar IOU if the USSA starts saber rattling.
“…With Obama as Commander in Chief it doesn’t matter how great a deterrent is if it’s never used…”
Dead on, peterj. The Chinese (and all the rest of the world) have determine that America simply doesn’t have the will to fight anymore.
The debt need not be repaid if at war — only if one loses the war.
Obama may be incompetent, but he is just a figurehead. The Manchurians are proceeding successfully with their plan it appears.
Have you noticed in pictures how many of those “poor children” appear to be adolescent or early twenty males?
The Americans can print three trillion worthless dollars and hand them over. The Chinese will be well-deserving of the consequences of lending imaginary money to people who cannot realistically be expected to become capable of paying it back.
You said it Sid.
Subs and lots of them.
As the saying goes for China navy. (How long can you tread water)
Yeah well, about China……Argentina made a nasty miscalculation back there in the ’80’s……that also smartened up the Soviet Union.
In the late ’60’s to early ’70’s the Soviets were rapidly creating and deploying a blue water navy…..this caused concern because western naval units had little new construction and were not exactely cutting edge…..while the Soviet new construction was deemed superior….
State of the art in early ’80’s involved missle units which are top heavy unless the upperworks are light metal construction…..the Soviet new construction reflected this….and the events of the Falkland conflict indicated that anti-ship missiles (such as exocet) did massive damage and ignited aluminum/magnesium ships. Harriers were handy but could not replace conventional naval air for air defence.
The Soviets took the lessons to heart and withdrew their ships to homewaters….becoming a brown water navy….and embarked on a crash programme to built aircraft carriers…..a task for which they lacked expertise/experience to build and could not afford. Yet another nail in the USSR’s coffin….
The US Navy took the lessons to heart as well, but created Aegis ships….and perfected and deployed CIWS (phalanx and standard missiles) especially on their carriers.
China lacks a credible carrier force….
Just my opinion……
The Chines will go after Taiwan . Its only a matter of time. Which no doubt brings joy to collectivism every where.
“The People’s Republic of China now believes it can successfully prevent the United States from intervening in the event of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan or some other military assault by Beijing.”
Sadly, the U.S. can’t stop China.
But of more concern is that even if they could, Barry would have none of it.
China and any other country for that matter, is free to do whatever they please.
This, of course, is exactly according to plan as Barry et al are not even hiding their intent to purposely destroy the once might nation.
They are pretty well finished in “fundamentally changing Amerika”.
They average low information voter can’t see the nose on their face.
Who is going to stop the Chinese from doing anything? It won’t be the decidedly weak Obama but the rest of Asia.
That or it can start calling the Chinese communists “sir”.
“The Chicoms just have to call in their 3 trillion dollar IOU if the USSA starts saber rattling.”
I beg to differ.
Owe the bank $50,000 and the bank owns you. Owe the bank three trillion dollars and you own the bank.
If we go to war with China, where will we get our I-Phones?
What will Walmart, Target, Sears, Best Buy, and every other store in North America stock?
“The People’s Republic of China now believes it can successfully prevent the United States from intervening in the event of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan or some other military assault by Beijing.”
Its true. They will be 100% successful in doing pretty much anything they want, from “incursions” to open war, and the Americans won’t do squat.
As long as they do it before November 2016.
The US armed forces, COMPETENTLY LED, can beat any other armed force.
The first problem is with the Commander in Chief. Next is the fact that the Commander in Chief has put as many
women and gay men in the Armed Forces as he could. Now there have been many gay men who have been good
and brave men of war (*); but hiring them because they are gay is a very bad idea.
The latest four-star general in the US is a woman who has never seen combat and got her position for being an
advocate of “women’s rights.”
The Commander in Chief has fired nearly 500 general-rank officers during his time in office.
Victor Hanson, after noting the large number of “four-star bureaucrats” in Washington, an old problem that
plagued Lincoln in the Civil War, said that he estimates that in
a war the US will lose 30,000 men before it gets its command structure shaken out. He is basing his estimate on detailed
knowledge of the careers of William Sherman and Matthew Ridgeway, for which see his book, “The Savior Generals.”
I think he is correct in principle but grossly optimistic. My own estimates of loss before the US armed forces
regain their effectiveness is closer to 150,000.
(*) Just for top commanders, Frederick II of Prussia and Prince Eugene of Savoy.
I concur….
That is a feature of armies in peace time.
As Lew McKenzie remarked Mobile Command (the Canadian Army)could be all seated in Maple Leaf Gardens….a brigade….not a division nor a corps nor an army.
And yet the Canadian Military had about 80 Generals…..
Lincoln’s biggest problem was his first choice for overall commander was a guy from Arlington, Virginia, who promptly resigned and joined the CSA….Robert E. Lee.
