As for “dead in the water”, that was the case after Son of Kyoto was frozen to death in Copenhagen in 2009. With Canada, Japan, Russia and Australia all withdrawing from the MOP portion of COP/MOP, it’s pretty much buried.
I doubt that Australia will be attending. It seems that the non-socialist countries have realized the scam and are bailing out.

Merkel is just being pragmatic and realizing that some of her base is onto the AGW scam and that it does not work. She should have known better to begin with, what with having grown up in Stazi land.
Actually, all the tribes in Europe are starting to look at each other with suspicion and are slowly sending signals that Brussels can stick it where the sun doesn’t shine. The immigration policies and the transformation to a green economy have both been dismal failures. Ukip’s rise in power has sent shockwaves through the established left wing parties in Britain and both France and Germany are seeing and feeling the backlash to their wallet emptying policies and their inability to stem immigration from countries that will never be compatible with European norms. I predict that passports will soon be mandatory again for inter European travel and the Euro as common currency will fracture and break with Germany going back to the Mark. It was a noble experiment, but it failed and the UN’s dream of ruling the world will go down in flames. Couldn’t happen to a nicer crowd. Tell me why you think I’m wrong.

Hopefully the trend continues into the national elections. A British couple we met on a Caribbean cruise in April, and correspond with, are UKIP supporters and are elated at the results.
Angie and Vlad are to busy figuring out how to split Eastern Europe to worry about seeding clouds. I guess the biggest issue is over the oil in Romania. Vlad knows how to market but Angie thinks he charges to much.
The only thing you are missing is “What fills the Void”. I predict that Science will regain credibility.. A lot of brilliant people toil every day in “real” R&D without notable results, they may be closer than we think…I have always though Super Conductivity was the “Holy Grail” solution to Energy, but it would result in a total revamping of world economics.

The populace of East Ukraine, knowing that successive gov’t in Kiev have not paid their gas bill since Jan. 2013, are understandably antsy about their economic future.
Much like the nice man I know who emigrated from Lvov (that’s in western Ukraine for the geographically-challenged) who came here because he woke up one morning and his life savings were worth one-tenth what they were the night before due to a currency devaluation.
So, given the choice to be affiliated with what’s close to a failed state or one that has all kinds of cash flowing in, which would you choose?
Debt and devaluation? Or a 13% tax rate in a debt-free country?
