  1. What’s the big deal here? They’re the first female, African-American team to win the DNC Cross Examination Debate Association’s award for best rap by special needs students with Tourette Syndrome.
    I say good for them!

  2. @John Salt: Thanks for the link. I now understand that what sounded like gibberish, was actually something quite remarkable. And also that I must be somewhat stupid and most definitely racist because I thought it was gibberish. I now understand that logic and reason are unnecessary in debate because you see, CEDA says that emotionalism and rapid speech are equal or even superior ways of making a point.
@Joe: You asked, “Does anyone else feel sorry for these two victims of American Black education?” I don’t know about the “American Black” part but I do agree that they have been victimized and set up for ridicule and I feel sorry for them.
The dork in the link provided by John Salt epitomizes what is wrong with the education establishment. He’s really the one who deserves the ridicule. He’s asking for support in the form of Youtube videos. I will be interested to see if any are forthcoming and if they can make a better defense than he did. His defense is two fold (1) You don’t understand the process and (2) you are racist.
This just gets better and better………

  3. That’s amazing.
Forget everything they’re saying (or if you’re like me, you have no clue what they’re talking about) and just notice the guys are wearing decorated blouses, jewelry and have long braided hair that must take hours to prepare while the chicks are wearing free T shirts and took ten minutes on their hair and appearance, if that.

  4. BTW for the life of me I can’t figure out what the award winning debate chick said the topic was to the host, when asked.
Did anybody catch it at 0.33?

  5. Resolution was “The shifting presidential war powers authority” according to the video.
Seems like a whole lot of incomprehensible bulls**t and table pounding to me. I hope they got money, because they look like a pair of idiots on Youtube forevermore.
But those girls when being interviewed were articulate and presentable. Probably the other team was too.
Which means the CEDA “debate” rules have no resemblance to anything sensible or REASONable, and those two clever girls read the rules really closely and won. With incomprehensible bulls**t.
That’s almost more impressive than if they’d just blown those two rap artists out of the water on straight logic. That wouldn’t have been to hard, because “whiteness” is not an argument. Its a canard.
This is what happens when intellectuals forgo the pursuit of Truth and substitute the pursuit of Style because its easier. You get a debate that resembles rational argument the way that an Andy Warhol print of a Campbell’s soup can resembles the Mona Lisa.

  6. If this is not a joke, then it’s one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen.

  7. Sadly, cross-examination debate in the US has been like this for decades. It is nothing new. Competitive debate is an extremely insane practice where stuff like this is routine and too often rewarded.
Back in the 90s, I participated in a Canadian national debate competition where one debater from a Toronto private school spent his entire time in support of a resolution about the young offenders act talking about the golden boy statue on the top of the Manitoba legislature. It was truly bizarre. He got third place.
The fault lies with the people who run debate organizations and poorly trained and educated judges who reward the entertainment factor over actual debating skill.

  8. Hey Phantom,
I’ts not a matter of Style, but Idiology.
They didn’t stick to the Resolution for/against, but went on their own riff about ‘da queer nigga bitch” and “white privilege.” Sorry, but this were pretty well the only words I caught and had to go elsewhere to find out what they were talking about. So, my guess is that two black lesbians trumps two black rapper brothers. Just saying’.
Univeristy lib arts courses remind me more and more of the Luke Wilson movie Idiocracy (2006). It was theoretically set 500 years into the future. We are getting there much much sooner.

  9. The YouTube video wasn’t made by Fox News. The interview praising the “debaters” to the skies was from Fox News. The maker of the video juxtaposed that interview with actual footage from the “debate”.
So it’s nonsense to think that Fox News deliberately tried to make the students look bad. All they did was broadcast a fawning interview.

  10. I laughed out loud at your comment, and now I have to live with that. Shame on me.

  11. Agreed. The ideology is that Truth does not exist. Style is everything.
Which makes it hard to do stuff like design a computer. Because real world, the Truth will kick your @ss if you’re not careful.

  12. Kate, somebody pulling our legs. The sound has been speeded up by at least 50% to create an unintelligible hash. It would be interesting to know what they were actually saying.

  13. The apex of resistance culture.
A Black Mass is to Catholics as Black English Vernacular is to forensics.

  14. Blame the left, they opened the cages….yep, stating with the 2008 Election….and its been downhill ever since.
English..?? you say they were speaking english..?? it sounded way more like Gansta hate against whitey to me…most likely sponsered by those two notable RACISTS, Jesse and Al.
America…the leading edge of low intellect.
    stk

  15. I had to shut that video off after five seconds because my arsenic was getting cold.

  16. My first thought was are you kidding me, then realized that the debate or the challenge of the debate was to talk like a stereo type black. If that was the jest of the debate they did well. They looked like a couple of fine upstanding girls otherwise. Congratulations on whatever you were blathering about.
