It’s actually incredible that the contrast between thousands in waste and billions seems utterly lost on most Ontario voters. Albertans were furious over the wasteful treatment of thousands of dollars. People of Quebec forced an inquiry into the alleged corruption and kickbacks resulting from millions of dollars of government contracts, sitting mayors were actually arrested and charged. In Ontario however billions of dollars have been wasted or worse, cover-ups and mistruths have followed but there are no protests, no charges and to date no accountability.

In this situation Stalin would have said: “The death of one dollar is a tragedy. The death of a million is a statistic.”
What’s fundamental here is the depth of the ideological support the Liberal Party enjoys in urban Ontario. We’ve all been trained since childhood in this province that “money isn’t everything”. People believe that here like they believe in gravity. They also believe that the place to go to get things fixed is government. Nothing is accomplished by private action, all good things come from Queen’s Park and Ottawa.
So the destruction of BILLIONS of tax dollars doesn’t even raise an eyebrow in Toronto. Really. They’ll vote Liberal, because the Conservatives are Bad People who hate gays, children and little fuzzy animals. Taxes are good, money is bad.
Stalin also said: “Education is a weapon whose effects depend on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed.”
The truth of that statement can be seen in Ontario any day you like. It was aimed at the middle classes by the Liberals in the 1960’s, and it effectively killed us as a class. Now there are the filthy, stinking rich and the struggling, and that’s pretty much it. Just a little thin layer of reasonably well off in between, your doctors, lawyers and other professionals who used to be wealthy too but are now merely ok.
I never noticed any of this stuff until I moved to the USA. You don’t notice the unrelenting propaganda. Its in everything you see, hear and read. Everything. When I moved, suddenly the propaganda -changed-. Took a few months to notice, but I finally got just how pervasive this “money is bad” horsesh1t is in Ontario. Torqued me off, I must say.
Then I went out and made a bunch of money. Screw you, Liberals.
While true I don’t think Del Mastro is exactly the guy who should be preaching about accountability in politics.
The answer to Del Mastro’s question, “Where is the outrage”, is the smoking gun lying beside Ontario’s corpse. Their is no outrage; just dull, dumb, acceptance. It is this very same absence of principles, convictions, and guts in Ontario’s electorate that is responsible for the current state of affairs in the province.
“There” is no outrage….
Ironically James you are making the point of the post. Del Mastro may or may not have overspent some 10’s of thousands on his lsat campaign. Compared to the billions it’s a pimple on a flea on an elephants ass.
Here in Ontario we have higher levels of flouride in the water, hence our outrage prompts no action.
Note that the publisher, Bourque, used to be an “organ” of the Liberal Party…
now being on the take side of the equalization they can never be outraged by anything. OPM , other peoples money
The unions are in a frenzy with the “Stop Hudak” campaign, and the numb crowd swallows it. Outrage? Ha…they are too busy watching Idol, and Oprah, and hockey.
It appears more and more that it is time for us good people of AB and Sask to start building some big fences.Makes for better neighbours.
In response to a phone survey about whom I was likely to vote for, my first answer was: “I am a giver, not a taker and that should answer the rest of your questions”.
It is an uphill battle for those of us who don’t deserve this government. The amount of misinformation generated in the comments sections of newspapers is unbelievable. And Wynne’s plays the evil Harris/Harper card while running the province into the ground for the last decade.
I’m saddened to have seen my province turn away from personal responsibility.
Ontario is lousy with intellectually dishonest people who vote for a living.
BTW, I get phone polls all the time now and I’m telling them all I’m either an Olivia Chowderhead or a Disciple of Kim Jong Wynne and they can count on me.
It never pays to be honest with thieves.
And another thing: Note to the takers (you know who you are): I am not a bottomless revenue stream. Make it too difficult and I will take my tax dollars somewhere that I might have something left for my entirely self funded retirement. As it is, not only do I have to save for my retirement, I have to pay for yours too.
Theft and missing BILLIONS are LIEberal values…
In short, they really don’t give a tinker’s damn.
After Wynne’s cheap shot Walkerton photo op, nothing short of her eviscerating Hudak on public tv would cause much surprise.

I thought this story pretty well represents what happens when dumb voters keep hanging around with shameless sluts.

And the sad part is that the voters in Ontario will likely put these criminals back in power
June 12th, Hudak will probably get a majority.
The reasons are numerous, too numerous to comment on. Then this fall Manitoba will oust the NDP and we’re looking a constant wall of right-of-centre governments all the way to the Maritimes.
(Yeah, I count BC Lib’s as right of centre- If they’re good enough for Stockwell Day, they’re good enough for me)
((Also, Quebec booted our socialist separatists and punted in Federalist centrist Liberals with a strong showing from the CAQ…this country is getting everything right lately.))
Do you think Ken Georgetti’s ouster by Hassan Yussuff is going to make a difference? Yussuff vows to lead the CLC to be more militant in grassroots organization. Georgetti’s modus operandi was more toward establishment unionism. Status quo.
I truly hope you’re right and that majority comes to pass. I am just afraid that the only reason Tiny Tim gets elected is because everyone else is so bad. Pretty much the main reason Harper gets elected without being real conservative.
Frankly, I want the Liberals to be voted in once more. Yeah, I know, pretty counter-intuitive but people here just haven’t learned their lesson and I’m counting on one more term to really drive the point home. Simply talking to random individuals in my neighborhood is enough to make me weep for this Province. The mere mention of even one of the many scandals these thieves have perpetrated on the populace is generally rewarded with that vacant, open mouthed stare most often associated with the low information voter and more often than not you’re rewarded with the oft used “But Harris was just as bad” narrative. Yup, right on cue. Good Grief!!!
I want future generations to equate voting Liberal to having their teeth drilled for a filling but I certainly won’t hold my breath.
Me? I’m getting out of here at the first opportunity.
Why would a change in leadership at the federal level make any difference? As a reluctant member of OPSEU I am fed the daily e-mails of fearmongering and propaganda on job losses (in the public sector) while we have watched our young people leave the province in droves to find work. Infrastructure and highway construction has been dead for at least 3 years while Mcguinty and Wynne wasted money on ORNGE, e-health and gas plant closure. How about those job losses? Is anyone counting those as ‘job losses’? Silence from the public sector unions of course.
Actually… ATU113 is using all those examples as failed public/private funding of public works. Using it in transit ads pimping for more public funding of the TTC. Seriously. Wish I had written down the web site this morning.
Remember, it’s all the greedy capitalists fault that the Liberal Socialists don’t have enough money to spend on every pet project they want. Never mind that the same libs and dippers have driven most of the industry from this province that used to employ and fund the government.
The CLC is Ontario-centric. The Ontario election is coming up fast, so I guess the new leader won’t have time to call the rank and file to heel.
Unfortunately the people of Ontario are brainwashed. I actually listened to someone I work with say they were voting Liberal, they’ve always voted Liberal, and they always will. They then said they couldn’t believe how anyone could be against gay marriage or making abortions illegal. And that was their summary of politics in Ontario.
“…I am fed the daily e-mails of fearmongering and propaganda on job losses (in the public sector)…”
Good for you, but I think you’re a rare case. Keep your pride – the Liberals have lots of guys with none of it willing to pose as election props.

I wonder, if Tim decided to use (as a platform) a criminal investigation with all results, either yea or nay, fully made public and a promise to take it as far as it could/would go, if that would be the final timber to make the majority…
If you believe the polls, the Ontario PCs are starting to move ahead.
http://www.threehundredeight.com/
Of course, we know how reliable polls can be. 🙂
But the flip side is, that Ontario has a history of electing provincial and federal governments from opposing parties. So if the Ontario PCs get in, those same voters may turn around and put Justin Trudeau in office federally.
antelope, there’s a tendency for polls to under-report conservative vote. One thing that is definitely going the Tory way is the campaign itself. Wynne isn’t setting the agenda, Hudak is. This is a much more conservative platform than the one the last time out. Ontario PCs are being much more tactical this time, going squarely after the 40 per cent they need for a majority government. And the conversation is all about their ideas, not their opponents.
Wynne’s efforts thus far are mostly, “stay away from those guys, they’re evil and scary.” It makes for good news copy, but it almost never wins elections. And notice that Hudak hasn’t even mentioned the gas-plant scandal once. Yet it’s still on everyone’s mind. Very, very bad news for Wynne.
And the Liberals are self righteous with it.
A few days back I was visiting The Beaches or as the trendies like to call it ‘The Beach’ (obviously they don’t travel very much).
I was in a Starbucks having coffee when in flounces a group of Liberal canvassers trying to recruit voters to their – I’d love to say – lost cause, but this being Ontario shilling for a viable candidate.
After they exhorted me to vote Liberal I responded by saying yes I would just as soon as they pay back the more than a billion dollars they used to buy the votes.
Normal people would have cringed recognizing the truth of what I said, but pols and pols wannabes are a different breed. Quickly they shot back more than a little self righteously that the NDP and Conservatives would have done it too.
With horror I realized they see nothing wrong in how the funds were misappropriated. And apparently nor do most Ontarians since Wynne is in with a real chance in the election.
Let me fix that for you: The big cities don’t see any problem with the government as it stands. Those of us in the small towns, small cities, villages, and rural ontario do. Sadly, we’re basically held hostage by, Toronto, London, K/W and Ottawa.
Eli, read the Ipsos poll numbers again. PCs are trending up in Toronto, and both the Dips and the Libs trending down. And Ipsos is the most reliable of the bunch. The actual numbers don’t matter so much as the trend lines. And they’re consistent over more than a month. After all, you don’t think that all those voters who voted in Rob Ford are going to vote Lib and Dip, do you?
Much more serious for the PCs is the rural tw*ts in northern Ontario. All those ridings are generally going left. It’s an interesting contrast. Rural and northern Alberta and Sask are generally conservative to the core. But northern Ontario, mostly pink.
I have been writing letters to the editors for 6 months now asking WHY they aren’t doing their damn jobs and DEMANDING a FORENSIC AUDIT on the – $650 MILLION from Ornge – gone/disappeared, the $1.2 BILLION from E-Health gone/disappeared and the $1.4 BILLION from the plant cancellations gone/disappeared. NOT ONCE has the LTR to the ED ever run one of my notes and I haven’t seen anybody else’s requesting the same … I’ assuming here I’m NOT the only one who thinks a FORENSIC AUDIT might be called for when the gvmnt has “lost” almost $3 BILLION +/- !!!
McSquinty is also GONE/DISAPPEARED and nobody thinks that, in itself, is highly suspect.
Wynne stated that she took FULL responsibility … and then said the next day she had no knowledge, wasn’t involved in any way and certainly had nothing to do with 17 computers having all their E-mails deleted. No. We’re to believe some computer tech dude took it upon himself to delete those incriminating records. Sure! Yep!
I was watching CP24 (Toronto) this aft when the normal news was interrupted by a quavering voice in near PANIC.
“” “” BREAKING NEWS “” “” they announced. I’m thinking L.A. just had their 9.2.
NOPE. They FOUND Rob FORD up in Bracebridge taking some clothes in for dry cleaning.
Considering previous elections? Yes. Though all the poll numbers tell me is that even if you kick a liberal enough times, they’ll get fed up and run to someone who won’t kick them when they’re down.
Eli I hope things turn around for the good people of Ontario. Money theft has always been a Liberal prerequisite and we have lived with it, not that we wanted but because the stupid, in Canada, voted these thieves into power, but the bulk of us are good people who look at the liberal MO as detestable, keep up the resistance, they will crawl back in their s..tholes if confronted with facts.

It is fascinating how the media can remain fixated on that lousy $90,000* cheque to Senator Duffy yet essentially ignore a billion in Ontario taxpayer’s money flushed away to cancel a couple of gas-fired plants.
* Why, that’s only $10,000 more than selfless and patriotic Peter Mansbridge’s annual salary. Oh, the humanity!
