Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

What They Say About SDA
"Smalldeadanimals doesn't speak for the people of Saskatchewan" - Former Sask Premier Lorne Calvert
"I got so much traffic after your post my web host asked me to buy a larger traffic allowance." - Dr.Ross McKitrick
Holy hell, woman. When you send someone traffic, you send someone TRAFFIC.My hosting provider thought I was being DDoSed. - Sean McCormick
"The New York Times link to me yesterday [...] generated one-fifth of the traffic I normally get from a link from Small Dead Animals." - Kathy Shaidle
"You may be a nasty right winger, but you're not nasty all the time!" - Warren Kinsella
"Go back to collecting your welfare livelihood." - Michael E. Zilkowsky
As much as I dislike the California experiment, I think it is in bad taste to continue this prayer what with the recent earthquakes in L.A. and Chile.
We don’t need no stinking literacy. What a waste of money. Goof for Apple, though.
If they had the 600,000 little brats MAKE iPads, that might be pretty educational.
There is just so much wrong with the thinking driving this it’s hard to believe this was the product of rational minds let alone professional pedagogues.
But the real sin here is in the stark hypocrisy of thinking the technology IS learning (only for the rich) and then using this expensive leaning tool to further dumb down students with common core fallacy – ie; 2+2=5
http://dailycaller.com/2014/03/25/this-common-core-math-problem-asks-kids-to-write-the-friendly-answer-instead-of-the-correct-one/
Victor Hugo said “Now, get seven million five hundred thousand votes to declare that two and two make five, that the straight line is the longest road, that the whole is less than its part; get it declared by eight millions, by ten millions, by a hundred millions of votes, you will not have advanced a step.”
Orwell was aware of the implications of 2+2=5 denial of fact – “Nazi theory indeed specifically denies that such a thing as “the truth” exists. … The implied objective of this line of thought is a nightmare world in which the Leader, or some ruling clique, controls not only the future but the past. If the Leader says of such and such an event, “It never happened”—well, it never happened. If he says that two and two are five—well, two and two are five. This prospect frightens me much more than bombs”
Common core and apple – partners in mass conditioning
18 second mark has them describing a new “fundamental human right” that should scare the hell out of everyone.
This seems to be part of the American and nork marxist fixation that
any kind of rote learning of young minds in school prior to a good dose
of their own indoctrination just makes their task more difficult. They do
go to the silliest extremes possible to muddy the teaching of what should
be the most useful and basic items for what are the vital requirements of
“first out the school door semi-literates. Still, there is increasing work for
more teachers in the prisons trying to cope with the messed up product of
messed up California schools, so there is that ray of sunshine.
I dunno, replacing teachers with iPads may actually not be such a bad idea, and might even save money in the long run. On the other hand, this looks more like giving kids iPads so their teachers will have more time to hang out in the staffroom playing Candy Crush.
Today’s door crasher from Dell was a Droid tablet for $120! Why not go for those instead of a stupid hipster wannabe status symbol?
Oh well, it’s only other people’s money and as they said, they have the “fundamental right” to have what the “rich” have.
The problem with an earthquake is it’s too indiscriminate. Monumental stupidity needs to be targeted…
Absolutly it’s terrifying to think someone has a fundamental right to and ipad?
Not to mention they are preloaded with the common core curriculum.LOL at one point a little girl say’s we are gonna learn and pauses (let me fill in that pause)how to be life time democratic voters!!
Once again, I remind squeamish readers of the dead gopher at the top of the page.
You know, I never quite ‘got’ the symbolism of the dead gopher (or maybe I do and I just don’t realize it).
Ignore the Common Core math for a moment. A 16 GB ipad runs about 400 dollars
https://www.apple.com/ipad/compare/
An Elementary teachers edition Math textbook is about 170 dollars.

An ipad lasts how long, 2 years, 3 years? That is,if you don’t drop it. Whereas a textbook, treated with respect, lasts a lifetime or more.
Loaded with Apple’s climate lies and propaganda perhaps.
I wonder how much input the taxpayers had on this ? The california economy is already in the garbage can, yet these entitled educators can’t see where they are doing anything wrong. Typical democrat mindset.
You mustn’t be from Sask.
While the iPad is a nicely engineered item, it’s closed source and, had the schools been wanting students to learn about technology, they would have given them Android tablets which are an open-source Linux based OS. Also considerably cheaper as I’ve bought Android tablets for less than $150 a piece.
What’s the most disturbing is the “books are static” concept which the head moonbat enunciated in the video. Static information on paper is a considerable inconvenience to totalitarians as, if the official reality changes, then it’s necessary to physically alter millions of copies of a paper book. OTOH, in a centralized digital society, one just has to alter the documents on the primary server to ensure that inconvenient facts no longer exist.
Amazing how much difference 40 years makes; at one time Apple was innovative, had an open architecture and challenged the entrenched computer industry. Now, Apple is part of the establishment and has no problems in providing the tools necessary for mass indoctrination. The last thing that students need are iPads. Despite my 45 years of programming, I firmly believe that learning should start using physical paper media and, when it’s time to learn how to program, then computers can be brought into the classroom. Failure to do this will result in the production of a society of individuals who lack basic memorization skills and will be rendered totally helpless should another Carrington event occur.
Having to figure out things for oneself makes one independent. One of the scariest things I’ve seen recently was a 16 year old anorectic patient of mine in hospital who wanted to know her weight. I told her what her BMI was and, knowing her height, it’s a trivial mental calculation to go from BMI to weight. Her response was to start googling on her cell phone with search terms of her height and BMI to find out her weight. Zero comprehension of what is trivial mathematics. I also see medical students who, rather than try to reason out a clinical problem instead immediately turn to a search engine to provide them with the answer. It irritates them when I give them the answer way before they’re finished formulating their search query.
The iPad experiment in CA is one of the first steps in creating a generation of totally obedient moonbats who are fed just the official statist version of reality as this generation believes everything they get from the internet. Hence the move to impose statist control of the internet so that a seamless statist doctrine will always be available to anyone who cares to search for information. No longer will totalitarians have to hunt down old “invalid” paper documents and all they have to do is change a few bytes and the population is given the “correct” version of history. Likely Obozo and his fellow criminals are eagerly awaiting the demise of static information storage technologies to prevent young minds from being exposed to inconsistencies in the historical narrative.
