I received a peculiar e-mail this morning:
The Arctic Ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from Consulafft at Bergen, Norway
Reports from fishermen, seal hunters, and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of temperatures in the Arctic zone. Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes.
Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm. Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared.
Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds.Within a few years it is predicted that due to the ice melt, the sea will rise and make most coastal cities uninhabitable.
By the way, I apologize; I neglected to mention that this report was from November 2, 1922, as reported by the AP and published in The Washington Post – 91 years ago.

Oh my gawd!! This can mean only one thing. Climate Change is cyclical. The whole global warming thingy is predicated on climate change being linear. New Age Climate Change isn’t real but Traditional Climate Change is real. Wooo hooo!

Everyone should strive to be an objective analyst with all new information they find. They shouldn’t be concerned with the opinions and beliefs of others. Everyone has to decide for themselves, no one else can do it for them.

It’s the effect of the CO2 Bubble™. As CO2 rises in the latter part of the century, temperatures in the earlier part rise, as if it were a boat on a wave.
Yeah, that 1922 warming was only due to local conditions. Now, NONE of any kind of climate change is due to local conditions, all global.
I blame Bush. Soon as I figure out which one I’ll let you know.

There is an off chance that some independent minded could pick up on it.
The 1922 report is real, but most quotes of the time it is quoted (here, too), this sentence is included at the end: “Within a few years it is predicted that due to the ice melt, the sea will rise and make most coastal cities uninhabitable.”
This was not in the 1922 article. Who added that, and when? The earliest traces I have found are from January 2010.
