  1. Chinese propaganda re-reported by NBC News?

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s powerful uncle was stripped naked, thrown into a cage, and eaten alive by a pack of ravenous dogs, according to a newspaper with close ties to China’s ruling Communist Party.

    […]

Hong Kong-based pro-Beijing newspaper Wen Wei Po reported that Jang and his five closest aides were set upon by 120 hunting hounds which had been starved for five days. Kim and his brother Kim Jong Chol supervised the one-hour ordeal along with 300 other officials, according to Wen Wei Po. The newspaper added that Jang and other aides were “completely eaten up.”

Sounds apocryphal. Possibly true, of course, but obviously unverifiable.

  2. The sort of story that true or not, a regime that wishes to be feared would allow to be spread unofficially.

  3. White House lawn belly-rub sparks “a href=”http://twitchy.com/2014/01/03/innocent-belly-rub-or-something-more-white-house-pic-sparks-beautiful-zinger-photo/”>beautiful zinger”.

  4. Actually, the article notes that the official North Korean account (the one for North Koreans’ eyes/ears) didn’t mention the manner of Jan’s execution, and that “The report (in pro-Beijing newspaper Wen Wei Po) may be a sign of the struggle between those in the party who want to remain engaged with North Korea and those who would like to distance themselves from Kim’s regime.”
It may be Chinese propaganda intended to discredit Kim Jong Un and North Korea, in other words, although Kim does a fine enough job of that on his own.

  5. Jimi Hendrix played for a while in Little Richard’s band but eventually got kicked out for . . . well, being Hendrix: playing wild, flicking his tongue at the girls in the audience, turning it up loud and walking out into the audience for a solo.

  6. Light bulbs are one thing, of course, but this nonsense is several magnitudes larger:
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/financialcrisis/10548104/IMF-paper-warns-of-savings-tax-and-mass-write-offs-as-Wests-debt-hits-200-year-high.html
The transnational plutocracy, aided and abetted by the Fed and their cronies in the eastern seaboard “establishment”, is reaching “Forward!” again with mega-plans of overt confiscation from everyone with a nest egg (except themselves, of course). We already have mildly negative real interest rates in Canada (-0.5% p.a. or something in that range at the short end of the market), partly as a matter of policy, but overwhelmingly unavoidable in the current global economic environment. Nevertheless, if anybody thinks that Messrs. Trudeau, Jr. and Brison, along with Ms. Freeland, have the mental horsepower to demur from any of the more extreme measures cited, I’d recommend thinking again. The NDP, of course, is a total write-off (pardon the pun; they’re in favour of “all of the above”, without even knowing what “all of the above” is).
I, for one, will not be scurrying up the gangway to this particular Russian Antarctic research vessel. The populations of the four largest Canadian provinces, including the latter’s municipal tentacles, need to pull their collective and individual heads out of the vicinity of their collective and individual lower posterior regions and get on with the revolutions that are required.
As Steyn says, inter alia, there are only bad and worse options: Cyprus on a pan-western basis holds no interest for me.

  8. LITTLE RICHARD was dealt a bad hand in life with one leg shorter than the other, yet he made his way in life very well.
My hand in life, MEANS that BOTH LEGS ARE SHORT, yet I hope to walk on those short 81 year old legs, right across Canada, seeking a MILLION CANADIAN CITIZEN SIGNATURES on the petition shown below the dotted line, as EARly as I can find a PRIVATE NON-GOVERNMENTAL sponsor to provide my wife and myself a very modest (ON LOAN) mobile home to live in, which my wife can drive as I walk, ride a bicycle or maybe even ride a donkey with the petition to amend our Canadian Constitution enshrining individual “PROPERTY RIGHTS’ into law, BEFORE by some mischance, Canadians decide on electing the Thomas Mulcair New Democrat communists to power in Canada.
    This is the petition wording
    ……………………………………………………………………………………………………..
PETITION TO THE HOUSE OF COMMONS
    IN PARLIAMENT ASSEMBLED
We, the undersigned citizens of Canada draw the attention of the House to the following: THAT : as individual Citizens of Canada WE do NOT enjoy the protection of “PROPERTY RIGHTS” within the Constitution of Canada ! hence, THE LAW of Canada!
THEREFORE: Your petitioners call upon Parliament to forthwith, incorporate and entrench FOREVER , individual “PROPERTY RIGHTS” INTO THE CONSTITUTION OF CANADA.
    Will any one step up?
Will SDA provide ME A miracle READER RESPONSE?
Oh yes, I may be aged AND short legged , but still SANE AND ABLE!

  10. I would have played something by the Everly Brothers, but I was unaware that Phil Everly passed away until I read foobert’s comment.
Btw – just for the record – I don’t feel duty-bound to commemorate the life of every artist who dies; if Justin Bieber or Kanye West (for example) were eaten by piranhas, I wouldn’t make one of their songs my tips music selection.
Great musicians like Phil Everly are a different matter, although I might commemorate the life of such worthy artists a couple of days, or a week, later.

  14. You would think that a “world renowned artist” would have made arrangements to import the alleged raw bamboo rather than trying to sneak them in. Fact is that border agents in both Canada and the US have to deal with a heck of a lot of stupid people. Yeah, some rules make no sense to you or I but they are all available for people to look up or ask BEFORE they arrive at the border. Pulling the race/religion/musician card doesn’t impress me or obviously the authorities either.
